Home Recording With The Dt25 112 Combo - Level Issue
radatats replied to sonicwave's topic in DT50 / DT25
Question for the group... what is the advantage to recording from the DT 25 in LVM vice recording from the POD HD 500 USB? In LVM you are essentially getting a "full amp" modeled signal just as you would direct from the POD. If I read the manuals right, it is a transformer tapped signal so you would get some tube flavoring in normal mode at volume, but in LVM I doubt there is anything to be gained over recording straight from the POD in USB. Not saying it is better to go that way just asking the group if there is any advantage to be gained... seems much easier to record via USB... -

how do you connect everything? I understand the L6 link is no good because the DT and the LT force different POD output settings. Another thread said he couldn't get a decent signal from the DT XLR out to the LT so that was confusing too. Not sure how you are getting stereo with that setup but very interested... -
We've all been there at one time or another... glad it works! :D

that should work!

sell it and move on...

Make a new patch in an empty slot with no FX, just an amp, any amp, don't change anything, strictly default. Guitar in to POD, left 1/4 out to the Peavey channel A input. Make sure you are plugged into the outer Neutrik connectors not the two center 1/4 jacks. Peavey channel A out to Blackstar cab. Check to make sure the Circuit Breaker on the back of the Peavey is not tripped, reset it if it is. POD Master full clockwise, Peavey channel A volume 1/2, channel B volume off. By the pedal on the POD, GUITAR IN to Normal, 1/4 OUT to Line. Guitar Volume 1/4 and see what you got. You should definitely have sound now. If nothing, turn Peavey off and switch to Channel B and see what happens. If still nothing, plug your guitar straight in to the power amp and see if there is sound. Keep the guitar volume low and amp volume 1/2 at first so you don't damage anything. Turn guitar volume up slowly. Check both channels. Let us know how this works and we can go from there.

L3m With Hd500 And Dt25 - Speaker Mode Save
radatats replied to mikedelg's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
great question... I have a DT 25 too and want to get a L2T. I hadn't considered L6 link for all 3 but I had thought of DT XLR out to the L2T. Have you tried that with your L3M? How does it sound? Is there any difference between that sound and going straight from the POD to the L3M/L2T? I honestly don't know if its worth keeping the DT if I get the L2T... -
I build my patches in HD Edit and the topology you select when you build your patch saves with it. When you select that patch in the future it configures the DT just the way you specified in the patch.

Stagesource L2t With Pod Hd300
radatats replied to mcbeastly's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
There is absolutely no reason not to use a standard XLR if that is what you have just because its "digital". A digital signal is just 1's and 0's, no amplitude, no audio, doesn't need anything exotic. If it is an unbroken connection, the data travels and it always travels completely or not at all. There is no partial or degraded signal like an audio signal. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with getting the specified cables if you can. Check out the link below for your cable needs. These guys are the absolute best I have found anywhere and their prices are competetive with anyone. They wil build pretty much anything you need to your specs. http://best-tronics.com/guitar-cable/AES-EBU.aspx They make Variax cables too. http://best-tronics.com/guitar-cable/ethercon/variax.aspx -
I was pretty stoked to see that Steve Howe from Yes uses a POD HD500 and DT-50 live and in the studio. Somehow I don't think he is getting fizz on his tones... Just shows that it is definitely possible and it is a professional piece of gear. http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/Rig_Rundown_Yes_Steve_Howe_And_Chris_Squire Edit: I really, really, really wish he posted his patches too!

congrats on the pickup, you will like it. Not exactly sure what you want to be able to do here. Spider Valve MkII Edit software is a free editor/librarian application for your Spider Valve MkII 112, 212 and HD100. You can use that to edit patches but you won't be able to make the deep editing to the amp models like the HD Editor lets you. You have a lot of choices here now as far as hooking things together. You can run into the front of the amp alone, run the POD into the fromt of the amp, use the 4 cable method, or run the POD into the FX return for just the power section. Each option has its benefits and drawbacks so you will have to play around and see what you want to do here. You can use the POD like a FBV by progarmming midi sends to the amp but I can't guide you there as I don't program midi myself. If it was just me, I would run my POD HD into the FX return to use the valve power section and the cab. Even there you will have to play with outputs (Studio Direct, Stack Power Amp), full amp/preamp and cab/no cab patches to see what sounds best through your gear with your guitars. It's not that difficult but it is time consuming and there are so many combinations that it can be a pain in the butt. In the end you will certainly find your tone with this gear. Keep at it and ask questions but mostly, HAVE FUN!

Here is the only thing that can be different by not using the L6 link. You can keep your POD set to Studio Direct and you can use your dual amp patches, even though they get summed to mono in the end. The preamps in the DT are EXACTLY the same as in the POD so there is NO benefit whatsoever to the 4 cable method except to limit your options and create a messy setup. Using the L6 link switches your POD to Combo/Stack depending on what you have and configures the power section accordingly. By going straight into the FX Return however, you can just use the power amp section and your cab and keep the POD in Studio Direct. All your patches stay the same, you are just using the tube power section to drive your cab. You can still manually change the topography, Class A/AB and Triode/Pentode. Is it worth it? Try it and see for yourself but I definitely think 4 cable with a DT is a complete waste of time. I've tried it and you gain absolutely nothing. Straight to the FX Return at least has a logical possible difference. Edit - after careful thought, there is one scenario where 4cm could benefit. By using the preamp in the DT you free up a lot of DSP in the POD for FX use if you really need a FX heavy patch.
-
been there done that, definitely not worth it... do the firmware updates but use the L6 link. my opinion anyways...
-
as TheRealZap said, the POD always takes control when using L6 link. Once a patch is selected however, either the DT or the POD knobs will affect the signal. If you make changes using the knobs on the DT and then press save on the POD, those changes are still saved just as if you had done it on the POD. If you then change patch, any changes not saved are lost and the POD's new settings are applied.

I too have a DT25HD and am seriously considering the move to L3T. I also found the L6 link problem when trying to use the other outs on the POD, pretty annoying to me. I wonder, is it the same with the L3T? What does it force the POD to switch to? Combo? My question is because if I use a dual amp patch fed to the L3T with L6 will it sum and play the signal? It won't just play the A channel like the DT right? But then if I want to feed the stereo signal to the FOH from the POD it will sound like crap because it won't be Studio Direct anymore. The other solution would be to feed the 1/4 outs to the L3T and the XLR to the FOH in Studio Direct but then you lose the reconfigurable feature of the L3T. Comments from those that own one are appreciated. I still think this will be the road to go in the new year... The simplicity of a JTV, a POD and an L3T being able to do everything I can think of, electric or acoustic and pretty much fill any place I might go is mindboggling...

Here is your answer: With the new TRS stereo input on El Capistan, Brigadier, and Lex, the L and R channels are summed together and fed into the effect, where it undergoes identical processing as would a mono input. On El Capistan and Brigadier, the dry portion of the output signal retains its stereo image at the output through the stereo mix control. With Lex, the stereo image is created through the rotating speaker process. The big advantage of stereo input lies in the ability to place the pedal anywhere within a stereo rig and retain the stereo I/O throughout. All of our pedals continue to make use of the entire processing power of the SHARC DSP chip as they always have. At least you can stop troubleshooting... sounds like you may need to play with the mix but I am not sure since the signal gets summed and processed as mono... http://www.strymon.net/support/faqs/how-does-the-trs-stereo-input-get-processed/ http://www.strymon.net/support/elcapistan/

Makes sense but now that we know the amp is fine, we can concentrate on just that specific pedal. Just because it is a stereo pedal does not mean it accepts and processes a stereo signal. It may generate a stereo signal from a mono input just like your amp does with your mono guitar input. Read the manual for the pedal and verify that the input is actually TRS otherwise it is just reading one side of your stereo feed and outputting a stereo signal from that, but you are still missing half the signal being put into it. Make sense?

I make most of my patches with the HD Edit software hooked up to my POD HD 500. I can listen to the changes I make as I go. I always make sure not to touch the POD while editing, all changes MUST be done on the computer. I will periodically save the patch on the computer and then reopen it again! I have found this seems to alleviate "memory" issues with the software. It is like you are starting fresh with the patch again. When I am satisfied or finished working with it I will again save it on the computer and then reload it in the software. Final step is to press save on the POD, close HD Edit and disconnect USB cord. My best advice is to work online, save often, never touch the POD when connected to HD Edit, save the final product to the POD and disconnect and you should be OK...

Can A Blown Power Tube Or Tubes Cause Damage To My Dt50 Head?

When you are ready to change tubes... http://line6.com/support/topic/3327-dt-50-25-tube-biasing-tips/ -
sorry for the wrong assumption! I have a Flextone II and it uses the TRS. It definitely should stay stereo. According to my manual, it should ONLY go mono if you are only using one speaker out. "MONO/STEREO DETAIL When using only the Left/Mono speaker output, the effects will be switched to mono. This also effects the Direct Outputs – they switch to mono, too (meaning the exact same thing comes out both jacks). If both left and right speaker outputs are in use, or neither are connected, the effects and direct outputs will be in stereo." If I understand you, you have the FX send going straight to return with patch cords, no effects, and it still switches to mono? If you haven't tried that yet, give it a shot. Also, see if there is a difference in series vs parallel on the loop. What happens if you are not using the floorboard?

Show Us Your Dream Rig.
radatats replied to Django_Oconnell's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
Here is my Line 6 gear. Been a user and fan since '99 with my original Spider 210... also Gearport, Flextone II, POD HD500, DT-25HD. A whole bunch of other stuff has passed through my hands too along the way, amps, pedals, multi effects, rack gear. Hard to get rid of most of it. To think that I could let all of this go including all my guitars and just drop down to a JTV (59/69/89) and a L2t/L3t... blows my mind. It would free up so much space and I could get rid of lots of support junk too. Definitely be so much easier to gig with. I have to say I am SERIOUSLY considering it in the new year... Should I keep the DT and a cab too or would the L2t/L3t do the job... -
Make sure you are using a "TRS" cable. That is a 1/4 plug with "tip, ring, sleeve" which will get the stereo signal from the Flextone's single 1/4 FX Send. If you use a standard instrument or patch cord, it will only pull one side of the signal, generally the left side. Depending on the input to your external pedals, you will have to make sure you have the right plug, splitter, adapter to be able to apply the left and right signal separately for processing. On the return you will again need to use a TRS plug to put the stereo signal back into the Flextone's single FX Return. Hope that helps!
