  1. There's a big difference between writing apps and writing drivers. You see Linux, in a stripped down version, on phones, tablets, etc. because it's cheaper than licensing it from Microsoft or some other flavor of Unix. It also takes about the same amount of work cause someone has to write drivers no matter what. However, writing drivers for the handful of people who want to run Line6 stuff on Linux just isn't worth it by any stretch of the imagination. Now if you want to pay $50,000 for that driver and can find at least 6 other people to pay that too, then maybe, just barely maybe, it's almost worth it. This is not meant to be a smart lollipop comment or biased.
  2. And make sure to set Input 1 to guitar and Input 2 to something else like Variax. Otherwise you're input signal is too hot.
  3. https://www.google.com/search?q=ir+pedals&oq=ir+pedals&aqs=chrome..69i57.1661j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Just do a google search for IR Pedals (see link above) and you come up with lots of options. Yes there's a lot that can be done with the PODHD but the IRs that come with it are not nearly the resolution you'll find using aftermarket IRs. One of the (many) reasons the Helix sounds better is it has better IRs.
  4. I'd like to weigh in one more time here. I like my PODHD now that I've finally got it dialed in. However I'm not going to buy a Helix because I can buy a realllly nice combo tube amp that does everything I want for the same price or less. But that's just me. You would think the price would go down or at least stay the same, and the quality would go up. Look at the iPhone for $1000 a piece while Android's are a lot cheaper and almost as good. This has proven in the past to be a sure way to lose market share - just look at Apple vs Microsoft in the PC market. Line6 needs to improve the PODHD or make the Helix LT a couple hundred bucks cheaper. One day they probably will do this, but not today.
  5. The Helix LT is $1000. But they're starting to get competition from Eleven again. I'm sure they're looking very hard at their market.
  6. If you want to fiddle with something you could try some IR pedals. But if you're happy with what you have then stop playing with your gear and just play the guitar. Guitar gear is like puberty. You keep wanting to play with it all the time.
  7. You won't find that information here.
  8. Trying using an overdrive effect as more of a boost into an amp model that already has plenty of gain. In other words, keep the overdrive effect fairly clean.
  9. A powered P.A. cab works pretty good too. That way when you create your tone, it should also work when you go direct into another P.A. system or just using your own powered P.A. cab.
  10. Is the PODHD the only digital interface you have ? Probably not if you are running Pro Tools. If you have ASIO4ALL.sys installed then get rid of it. That seems to cause a lot of the problems. More than likely it's a conflict between the PODHD and whatever other digital interface you have installed.
  11. Which probably meant you had a driver in Windows 8.1 that needed to be updated. But I personally liked Win7 better than 8.1, so good choice and glad it's working.
  12. The cheaper versions of Windows is usually what's called an OEM version. That means it's fully functional and legit but if you upgrade the motherboard or CPU then you have to buy Windows again. Which you'll never do to an old laptop anyway.
  13. Just run an older version of Windows. Win7 is still supported through 2020. Hell I got an old computer that's running Windows ME because the hardware it's connected to requires it. Or install Linux and spend countless hours trying to get it to work with the PODHD, rather than playing music.
  14. Oh and make sure the output is set to Studio Direct.
  15. Is Input 1 set to guitar and Input 2 set to something else - like Variax ? This is step 1 that screwed up a lot of people. If they're both set to guitar or same then the input signal can easily get too hot.
  16. Great. Do you have the latest version of the PODHD driver ? Is it completely up to date at v2.62 ? Does your Windows 8.1 have all the latest updates ? Line6 software can be found here: https://line6.com/software/index.html After checking and/or installing updates and/or drivers make sure to do a cold boot of everything - both computer and PODHD.
  17. Then you need to provide more information. Are you using a DAW ? What other audio drivers are you using ? Such as ASIO4ALL.sys ? What are you doing on your computer when it blue screens ? What other programs are you running at that time ? Do you have any other digital audio interfaces running ?
  18. Why even use the PODHD ? What you're doing is like using a T.V. as a radio. Yes you can do that but Line6 sells an FX box for people not wanting amp sims.
  19. This topic has been answered many times. Hopefully this solves it for you too. If not, a couple of Google searches should find you the answer. http://line6.com/support/topic/14707-driver-irql-not-or-less-equall6podhd5se64sys/
  20. I think the OP's Caps Lock was stuck. He needs to figure that out first... lol
  21. I use the PODHD into a Marshall JCM900 and Marshall 1936 cab. What works the best for me is to use the Studio Direct output of the PODHD into the FX return of the amp. Then use the Pre versions of the Amp models in the PODHD and don't use any cab modeling - since I'm already using a real cab. Make sure you have Input 1 on the PODHD set to guitar and input 2 set to Variax. Input impedance can make a difference too but I'd leave that at the default for now. Get your tone as close as possible then drop in an EQ and search for that last bit of fizz by using a narrow Q and cutting the offending frequencies. It may take a while to find what works best for you. It can be frustrating for a while but it'll be worth it. There's lots of people here to help you through this. We've all been there.
  22. Holy crap. Yeah that's not normal.
  23. Check these out for sound options. https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Description=external%20sound%20card%20for%20laptop&Submit=ENE
  24. Or buy a used PODHD on Ebay. But seriously don't spend that kind of money on a PODHD to use as a sound card. Lots of better options out there.
  25. The PODHD is a very reliable unit but that doesn't mean none of them have ever broken. There's thousands of them being used for years with no problems at all. That and the tone is why Line6 is leading the mid-range market. Zoom and Boss sound like crap compared to it and they aren't any better for reliability. Sorry you don't have anywhere to send it to locally. I don't know how much postage is for sending it to the nearest Line6 Repair center from Ireland. I can send something across the U.S. for like $25 bucks.
