Yeah but Line6 didn't go out of their way to make it easy either. Presets that suck, EQ in percentage, default input settings that overdrive and clip. It took me a while to get it dialed in and I've been a musician for a long time, and my background is computer engineering. Yep there's some blame on the user but plenty of blame on Line6 too.

pianoguyy - Maybe it's too early in the morning and not enough caffeine yet, but I don't understand your reply. This kind'a bothers me 'cause I usually agree with you.

I use the PODHD into the FX return of a Marshall JCM900 and 4x12 cab. I play mostly hi gain stuff. The bigger question here is "How much money are you looking to spend ?"
-
I use a stereo delay between the left and right output of the PODHD with a 20ms delay. Don't know if that will get you what you're looking for but it gives a nice stereo effect. Other things are chorus or detune - both used in extremely small amounts.

It comes down to competition and market share. Right now nothing else is as good as the PODHD in that price range. I know I'm not going to buy a Helix or AXEFX or Kemper. Too much money. I can afford it but that doesn't mean I'm going to spend it. Not worth it to me. I would consider it if I didn't already have a PODHD. Musician: Someone who brings $5000 worth of gear in a $500 car for a $50 gig.

It would be damn near a miracle to see another update for a 7 year old product. We probably have a better chance of seeing a new product.

HD500X amp models quite bright and fizzy - am I doing it wrong?
joel_brown replied to colmac2000's topic in POD HD
That's how I run my PODHD. I plug it into the FX return of a Marshall JCM900. btw - do you have your PODHD set to Studio Direct for the output ? I never saw the question asked in this thread. -

It took me months to get the PODHD sounding like I wanted. Damn near returned it a few times. It takes a while to find the combination that works with your setup and tastes. Gott'a remember this unit is built to work with who-knows-what for an amp and speaker. Hang in there and keep tweaking. In the end you'll be happy. Fractal doesn't magically work perfectly with every amp and speaker combination either. Nothing can cause they're all different. -
There is not a difference in tone. I think there's several bulllollipop posts in this thread. Alternate facts are getting out of control.

Noise thru amp when guitar volume all the way down
joel_brown replied to danimal67's topic in POD HD
I guess it may depend on the patch. I was using hi-gain with the Angel amp model. -

I had them set to same when I first got my PODHD and it was noisy cause it's giving a real hot input signal. -

Input 1 is guitar and Input 2 is Variax ? -
Usually 'cause every instrument clogs up the lower-mids. Not that this is a catch all but I've seen it so many times. Frequencies around 200hz to 500hz are very dominant to human ears and give us a muddy impression of sound. Two high gain guitars with very similar tone can get along quite well if EVERYTHING is EQ'd properly. One of the first things I learned in studios was EQ. Not that I was all that good at it but I tried to learn from the engineers. They always said work with the EQ to get everything sounding as good as you can before adding anything else to it. Obviously a good sounding tone coming into the board is just as important, if not more. Good luck and EQ with everyone playing at volume until you get it right. What sounds the best by yourself at low volumes usually doesn't work at stage volume with other players.

I reduce bass quite a bit but that doesn't mean it'll work correctly for you. It depends on the amp/speaker combination you have. It also depends on how the rest of the bands tone. The band I'm in has spent a lot of time making sure our instruments are EQ'd with each other to prevent stepping on each other's frequencies. Something I wish more bands did. An average band that has great tone will sound great. A great band with average tone will sound average. A crap band with great tone will sound average. Moral of the story: Even if you're a great band you're no better than a crap band with good sound.

I assume the PODHD and Boogie are plugged into the same wall outlet ? Sounds like a grounding problem. Is it a low 60hz kind'a hum ? -
I use a PODHD into the effects return of a pair of Marshall JCM900s and cabs. I do this because it's sounds as good or better than the original amps and it's a clean solution. I haven't been able to give up a tube amp but I really like the setup of a PODHD into a tube amp.
-
Yes you can but you would have been better off buying one of the Line6 M Series effects units. http://line6.com/m-series-effects-pedals/ You're using a modeler that has effects for just effects rather than an effects unit for effects. It'll work but it's kind'a like buying a car to listen to the radio but never driving it anywhere.

I don't see how you can set more than one band with the Parametric EQ
joel_brown replied to 357mag's topic in POD HD
You have to use multiple Parametric EQs if you want to change more than one band. Yeah that sucks. -
Probably the output isn't set to Studio Direct. But you should check all the Global settings too.
-
Just for the heck of it I plugged some of my old pedals straight into my Marshall amp/cab just to remember how it sounds. It sounds good, really good. But it doesn't sound better than the PODHD. Actually I still think the PODHD sounds slightly better and is a lot quieter.
-
I've been trying reallllly hard to get away from my PODHD to Tube Amp setup but I just haven't got the tones I want using FRFR yet. The tube amp just makes it come alive. A friend of mine has an AXEFX and he says the same thing too. Once you put them into a tube amp they sound better. I keep trying though. Sure would be a ton more convenient to go FRFR.

Make sure the Input is set to Guitar 1 and Variax 2. Also Impedance needs to be checked too. There's some small detail you're missing and it can be frustrating trying to find it. Have patience and keep looking.

Hey I'd pay money for an upgrade but I believe we need to see a hardware upgrade for any real change. It'd be nice if there was a way to upgrade the processor and/or memory for a few hundred bucks.
-
When a competitor comes up with something for $500 bucks that's better then we'll see an upgrade. Right now nothing in that price range compares to it.

I use my PODHD into the FX return of a pair of JCM900s in stereo. I only use house sound in larger venues, the typical pub/bar I don't mic up. You can check out videos and recordings at www.ChildrenOfTheGraveBand.com We're a Black Sabbath Tribute Band.
