Hehe, I thought the same thing..."Millions of dollars" ???

I can't believe this thread exists and is still going on. Someone will always complain about something. If you don't like the Model Pack then return it. I did. More than likely you need to tweak what you have a little more to get the tone your looking for. And never forget, if you practice and improve your own playing, that helps too. No matter how good you think you are, you can always be better. How many guitar players does it take to screw in a light bulb ? Just one, but he goes on for hours about how great he did it.

I was referring to PODHD500X and anything else in it's price range. One of the earlier posts compared it to GRig and a discontinued controller. But going off on a tangent is fun too.
-
HD500X is not discontinued. That's like an HD500.1 version. So it's not Apples to Apples with the GRig and is confusing in this context. The current question "HD Support still going or done ?". Not "used to be going or used to be done". So back to my response. There's nothing in the category of the PODHD that's better. I'm real happy with mine and not sure I'd upgrade if something else came out. Why spend lots of money upgrading when the difference is so small even trained ears can barely notice it.

Get a better job, don't waste your money on expensive monitors, and your PODHD is an audio interface. I use $60 Logitech computer speakers that come with a sub. My mixes come out fine. Remember, 99.99999% of the people that will listen to music have cheap speakers. Think of it as - I can play just as well on my Epiphone guitar as I can on my Gibson.
-
Yes it will deliver but you will have to tweak your tone between what you hear in your apartment through headphones or computer speakers and what your Egnator will sound like. That may take more tweaking than you think, which is not the PODHD's fault. Those amps/speakers are a lot different from each other.
-
Nice, but it doesn't count if it's discontinued.
-
Where on their website is this ? I couldn't find it. Or are you buying from someone else a separate controller board, audio interface and computer ?

Atleast in my area, we can play bars for next to nothing or do Corporate Gigs for big money. Corporate Gigs are when we dress up and play certain types of dance music with a little classic rock thrown in. They pay very well, usually in the $2k to 3K range. But you have to be top notch with very good vocals and harmonies. I don't do this because I don't like the music and I don't need the money. I'm at the age where I'm going to do what I damn well please. However, most (not all) bar bands I've seen are crap. Their tone sucks, they're playing is at best average, and vocally they're barely getting by. In my area, find a reputable agent and get out of bars if you want to make money. Or do what I do and don't play bars that treat you like crap but you won't make much money either. Oh and learn how to run a sound system yourself and buy a wireless system so you can walk out front occasionally during your performance to make sure it sounds right. Those are my choices...

GRig is a plug in. It's not in the same category as the PODHD. You have to have a computer with audio interface and GRig loaded as a plug in.
-
On the fence ? What else is going to be as good ? Nothing I know of, until you get up to the Helix, Kemper, or AXEFX for a lot more money. But you make some very valid points for people who re-amp or really liked some of the other XT amp models that are no longer available. I made the jump from the POD 2.0 to the HD. I guess I don't miss what I never had. Does the Firehawk fill in some of these things for people ? I haven't looked at it very close but it has some interesting features.

Angel Pre (ENGL) is my favorite. But I'm still using the PODHD into a Marshall amp and cab.
-
So far nobody knows and the people that do know aren't going to say. That's very confidential information. Otherwise it would be announced on their website.
-
It's anyone's guess. But if you want or need them then just buy them. It's a good deal regardless.

Digital Modeling is taking all the old pedals, amps, and speakers and putting them in a gizmo called PODHD. Now you can push buttons and connect all of it together any which way you want. It'll take a while to get it sounding just the way you want. But then again if someone handed you 100 pedals, 30+ amps and cabs, that would take a while to get it sounding the way you want also.
-
It takes a LOT of work to get it sounding right through a guitar cab. It can do it, but it takes some serious tweaking to make it work. That's why there's a lot of discussion about FRFR (Full Range Flat Response) systems.
-
I still use Marshall amps. But I did away with noisy pedals and all the cables they needed. I even did away with the Marshall pre-amp and just use the PODHD into the FX return. Took a while to get my tones just the way I wanted them now I never touch anything and just plug in and play. It always sounds great. This past weekend a guitar tech from PRS showed up to hear us play. He couldn't believe how good the guitar tone was and wanted to know what I did to get this sound. I think that says it all right there. I want to switch to a FRFR setup one day but tubes and guitar cabs still have that special roar.
-
I thought I heard that some people were using the pedal to fade between two different amps.

PODHD will sound a lot better than the Boss but you will work a lot harder to build the preset. Kind'a what's kept the PODHD in the fore front of the $500 category is how much better it sounds than the competition. What's kept it from completely dominating that market is it's more work to get tones out of it. If you want easy and close enough tone is good enough for you - buy the Boss. All of us here will help you build your own tones in the PODHD and help you learn and understand what it takes to get great sounds out of it.

One thing I learned from doing studio work from the sound engineer was always try to cut frequencies first and only boost if you have to. That helped me a lot over the years.
-
Start normal before you get creative.

There is no "Best" amp or cab. However the cab you're working with will require more and different EQ'ing than say an FRFR cab. Believe me, I use a very similar cab and it took a lot of time to get it sounding right. Where as an FRFR (Full Range Flat Response) system was easier for me to dial in. The tones you're listening too are, more than likely, done with an FRFR system. I think if you switch to a Kemper or AXE and run it through the same setup you're going to have very similar issues.

Ok, then go online and browse the ProSound equipment... Oh here's a thought - why didn't the OP Google the question ??? Seriously it's nice to buy from a local music store for the reason that you can try it before you buy it. I also haven't seen one yet that won't match an online price.

StaffK - this is the dilemma the PODHD has put us in since day one. It can be difficult to get the tones you want. I had some of the same problems you described, part of the problems in your pickups and speaker cab. Reduce Thump and increase Low Cut. Right off the bat that will help your issues. I've had both EMGs and DiMarzio Supers. Try some of the Gibson pickups. Better quality and a lot less unwanted noise. They're also 2 to 3 times the price.
