  1. but how many of them own an HDx... that's the point... they can all still use workbench just like they always did.... if more of them buy and register an HDx then maybe you can get them to reconsider... however... if it was that important to me to have... i'd just get the 500.... because maybe possibly someday ... well sucks. i've seen the non-x models go really cheap.... more money for a JTV :) sorry not the answer you want... but i'm not looking to lie to ya...
  2. the newer software GEARBOX does not require java... but much depends on what device you are trying to use....
  3. I'm just the messenger... I agree it seems simple, and was a little shocked that the functionality was overlooked... just the way it goes sometimes i guess. at least using the gen 1 variaxes with the X models works 100% the same as the non x.... that's far more important in my opinion... when i had my gen 1, i used workbench a handful of times and made some models and tunings... it was far from something i used on a regular basis.. it is killer though...
  4. every time they open up the code they have to extend support on it. and of course they don't want to continue to support older products forever.... noone in manufacturing or software does... not without a customer supplied maintenance agreement... meaning real money. not saying that "the move" is going to make everyone happy... but "the move" happens to everything at some point or another... gen 1's came out about a decade ago.
  5. it's not anything so sinister as not wanting to or pushing anyone towards a newer purchase... they simply looked at the number of hd500x owners that also had generation 1 variaxes registered (maybe sold long ago, not using, dead.. who knows what) and didn't see enough owners of both devices to justify the investment...
  6. You didn't read the post where I confirmed with line6 that they've acknowledge and intend to fix this before release ...
  7. the setting will be saved if you hit save after you change the setting on the L2 however if you power it off, you may need to change from one tome on the pod back to the tone in which the output setting is saved.... this should recall the setting...
  8. I asked and got confirmation that they will be addressing this... as far as a timeline "before Yosemite is released" was the only thing they mentioned.
  9. if you've already registered the speaker simply go here: http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html and follow the prompts. you can also use the original link and give them a call and they can help. include your video link in the ticket... may help them determine the issue faster!
  10. if you have no other line6 devices, it would be easier to just change the password and email and give him your login.... second easiest is to just not connect the device to monkey (there wont be any more xt updates anyway) and the packs will stay unlocked. third option is to login here: http://line6.com/account/purchasehistory/ and go into the details and attempt to gift them to his line6 account
  11. I don't believe they will work post upgrade.... i think the drivers etc would all re-run their system checks. but what i'm saying is that the software itself works on 10.10 but the installers won't run. (another forum user got it to work using pacifist... sounded like alot of work... why not just wait?) DTEdit is 3rd party unsupported, but i doubt it has any system checks.. and would likely have no issues.
  12. yes, the issue is it won't install... the line6 software packages pickup the OS version as 10.1 rather than 10.10 and as such doesn't pass the minimum requirements. they are aware and expect an update before release.
  13. Yes I already acknowledged that... no reason to get defensive.... just want to make sure that others don't immediately assume that anyone's opinion is FACT or is some sort majority opinion... they are both just that... opinions... anyone interested, try both and go with the one YOU like. nothing unfair or offensive in my statements.... it's your preference.... fair enough.
  14. I have alot of guitars... and there are many other guitars i would go for if i wanted "fuller and warmer" before i would pick up a strat or a tele.... just saying... i personally think that 2.x is far superior more dynamics and more distinction between the models... clearly a subjective topic and clearly you disagree.... but let's not let those that prefer the older models... pretend that noone likes the new ones.... it's your preference.... fair enough.
  15. of course with a JTV you can turn those knobs into expression "pedals" :) but not with the pod hd alone...
  16. No. you can add a midi command to a footswitch, but you cannot add a midi range to the knobs.
  17. if you just bought it new... PF2 is likely free! if you bought it used, PF2 is likely not.
  18. depends on your license=not typically free did you buy PF2? it did come with some purchases... but not all...
  19. inspect the socket for bent pins would be the first thing i'd look at. also do you happen to be using any of the SPDIF input/output? the variax shares the D/A conversion with that output, and if i recall correctly you can't use both.
  20. exactly.. as rewolf said... just run the 1/4" out to your amp or interface and you'll hear the changes.
  21. we guarantee the same workout as the 5160 or your money back.
