Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev E - English Page 8 Expression Pedal Move the expression pedal to control volume, wah, or a combination of amp and/or effects parameters. Activate the hidden toe switch to toggle between EXP 1 and EXP 2. (The scribble strip above tells you which one is active.) If an external pedal is connected to the rear panel EXP 2 jack, the built-in pedal becomes EXP 1 only.—see “Controller Assign” (Page 53j etc. plus page 66 re EXP 1, 2 and 3 position Determines whether the Helix expression pedal positions are recalled per snapshot, per preset, or applied globally. If you want a Volume Pedal or Wah to maintain its position when switching presets, set this to “Global.” Could be worth browsing through. Or, reset your Globals from the backup file you made with HX Edit. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi Valgua, You are not the first, and certainly will not be the last to have fallen into that trap of letting HX Edit update the firmware before updating itself. Luckily, this is not a fatal error and once you have HX Edit 3.0 up and running and able to work correctly with your Stomp, everything should be fine. You need not worry. Have fun with the new things in the HX Stomp. Hope this helps/makes sense.

As mentioned by “phil_m” in the post above, why do they need separate level controls. Jason Sadites has a video on YouTube describing gain staging and shows that Helix delays and reverb will take just about anything that you can throw at them. Here ya go - I found it for you. Check from 21:40 when he adds a delay after the amp. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, That sounds very strange, not something that’s been reported previously AFAIK. You said that you tried a factory reset with no success, but as you note that it can still connect over USB so that it shows in HX Edit, I would possibly be tempted to re-flash the firmware again to see if it clears the issue on the screen. Basically, you have nothing to lose so give it a shot. Hope this helps/makes sense

Ahh, a new user! Welcome to the Helix Crew. It is quite a leap from the M13, but most of those fx are in the legacy section, should you ever feel the need to use any of those. One of my favourites from the older effects that, thus far, has not made the full crossover to HX is the Dimension model. I’m also a long time user of Line 6 stuff having started out with the original old red kidney bean POD and transitioned through most of the other stuff up to the Helix floor, ye gods, I still have one of those nylon string Variax guitars. This stuff just keeps getting better and better. Have fun with your new toy.

Hi, The biggest drawback to all the “poly” type effect (that people have been clamouring for such a long time), is it guzzles DSP. It can use up to 50% of a single DSP chip, which IIRC is what is available in the HXFX. Put one of these in you signal chain and watch the rest of your effect blocks become “greyed out”. If you stick to using mono fx oh frees up a little more processing power. Hope this helps/makes sense.

The first step for updating is downloading and installing HX Edit 3.0
datacommando replied to phil_m's topic in Helix
Hi, I have just seen another post from someone who says that when they downloaded the HX Edit3.00.dmg file and then try to run it comes up as v2.92. A couple of us have just downloaded the same file to check and they are as expected - v 3.00. On a Mac it's not known for someone to install a newer version of HX Edit and when they launch it an older version still appears. Sometimes there is an Alias/Shortcut harking back to a previously installed version. I can only suggest that you ensure that you are actually running version 3.0 HX Edit. you can find the version of HX Edit by going into the Application folder > Line6 and inside there highlight HX Edit and press "command" and "I" on the keyboard to bring up the info for the app. Just above the Copyright notice is the Version Number. If you are still having this issue grab this .dmg file and use that to install HXE3 - it works for me and has done right from within an hour of the latest firmware public release. https://www.dropbox.com/s/itbpemkllecs595/HXEdit3.00.dmg?dl=0 Hope this helps/makes sense -
Yes, I just checked again and it all seem to be O.K. I can't understand why his download is not correct. File under weird and mysterious. EDIT: Damn! I just realised on his Mac he may have installed the correct version, but is inadvertently opening an alias back to the previous version of 2.92 He probably got it to install properly, but is opening the older version in error. Easy to overlook that situation.
-
Hi krispn, I don't know why you are getting the wrong .dmg file, but you can grab this one if you want to. https://www.dropbox.com/preview/Public/HXEdit3.00.dmg?role=personal Hope this helps/makes sense EDIT Please ensure that you have deleted any previous version of HX Edit - especially any shortcut/alias back to an older version.

Hello, I know that some people have managed to be able to successfully install v3.0 Helix firmware from Big Sur machines. I don’t know how many of those are actually M1 units. There are also reports of people having various issues trying to run v.3.0 on the latest Mac OS. Examples including random USB disconnection and HX Edit failing to load are just a couple. Considering that Line 6 emailed customers advising them NOT to update, many did. There is even a “sticky post” in one of the orange banners at the top of this page, “MacOS 11 Compatibility with Line 6 Software” stating the same as the email. There is also a discussion on the main Helix forum about how Line 6 should have been prepared for the Mac OS change. I find that odd, as not only did Line 6 send out the “warning” email, I had many others, saying the same thing about not installing Big Sur, from AKAI Pro, Eventide, IK Multimedia, Native Instruments among others. Apparently, Sweetwater have a list of the latest incompatible software items and it’s surprising how many big names are in there. I used to be an early adopter of all things Mac - I’ve been using them since the first Mac Plus, but for the past few years I haven’t bothered. This is simply because I had seen reports of people updating only to discover that their Mac and Apple software worked great, but all third party plugins failed or were flakey. I realise that if your Mac is set to do auto updates, then it is going to be very annoying to find that your version of HX Native no longer works on BS, and you have to spark up Time Machine to revert back. Also if you buy a brand new Mac, M1 or Intel, then the OS will be installed and that’s it. Given the option, I would wait until I see that everything is going to work with the new Apple machines. This is just my personal observation. Hope this helps/makes sense YMMV

Damn! If ya can find a tuner in HX Edit let “spikey” know immediately. He’s been asking for that feature since day one. ;-)

Hi Steve, That’s very odd even though I’m Mac based I got the bundle to download without that issue. Possibly a checksum error with the download. I haven’t seen this reported anywhere else. I guess you have tried to download again?

Hello, And your offer of assistance in this matter to help out the OP is what exactly?

You do realise that posting this here is not enough - you actually have to post your ideas/request onto the IdeaScale site to be voted on. Find it here: https://line6.ideascale.com Ensure that nobody else has made the same request, and if they have you can vote it up. You mention 3 items - therefore you need to make each one a separate post, because more people will vote for single things rather than a multi request. Then you can post here to let other users know what you have asked for, and they can vote for it if they like the idea. Hope this helps/makes sense.

No Line 6 staff in this forum. If you really wish to report this as a “bug”, then you need to post here: https://line6.com/support/topic/16083-helix-bug-reports/ Hope this helps/makes sense.

Seems to me, that is a decision that only you can make, but come at it from another angle. If you sit in your bedroom with your Fender Blues Junior plus a few pedals, that’s it. Oh, you could go out and buy another pedal or two for a novelty, but it’s not just buying the the 2 pedals is it? No, you need to power them, could mean another 2 power supplies, then patch cables and what order do you put them in. Oh, that nasty cracking noise from a bad connection- spend the best part of a day finding and fixing the fault in the spaghettini. Or plug your Music Man Cutlass HSS into the Helix and PC112+ and power them up. Instant access to more than 80 amps, beyond 200 FX etc, no unnecessary messy cables and wall warts. I know which way I would go - no contest - chose to go with Helix 5 years ago and it just gets better and better, especially with this latest firmware update. I don’t understand why you would imagine this stuff would become obsolete? Hope this helps/makes sense
-
Hi Steve, That .hxf file is the firmware file. You have to be running the Line 6 Installer to run it properly while connected to your hardware device. Trying to open it on its own will not work, it’s a bundle for the installer to deal with. Hope this helps/makes sense

This thread is 10 months old and the issue was discussing the older v2.8x firmware and Windows 10. It has been mentioned that Line 6 sent out an email telling customers to avoid updating to Big Sur until further notice, but as you are already in that situation I would suggest that you might need to zap the PRAM or NVRAM on your Mac. Try this. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063 No guaranteed, but worth a shot as some stuff can get screwed up after an update. Seems that Big Sur had lots of USB disconnect issues early on. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Run on what? You need to supply as much relevant information as possible. Example - your computer and operating system and do you mean that your hardware is functioning but HX Edit cannot connect, or HX Edit fails to launch? Cannot help if the input is too vague. Hope this helps/makes sense.

I saw that you have posted several times and nobody has replied yet. I guess that English is not your first language. I will try to help. I will suggest that you restart your HELIX while holding down the Foot switches 10&11 (upgrade presets to latest format ). If this does not fix the boot problem - then follow these instructions. IMPORTANT! In the unlikely event that your update fails, please follow the steps below: Unplug the USB cable from both the back of your Helix and the computer. Turn your Helix/HX device off and on. Reconnect the USB cable to your Helix/HX device and the computer. Download, install, and launch the latest version of Line 6 Updater. In a failure state, the device will not connect to HX Edit. Line 6 Updater for macOS: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=9831 Line 6 Updater for Windows: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=9832 Select your device and try updating to the latest firmware again. If the device does not show up in Line 6 Updater after these steps, try a different USB cable and/or USB port. If it still doesn't show up, try a different computer Hope this helps/makes sense Good luck.

Take care DD, this guy will say you failed to read his entire post and you are hitting him with negative vibes, when in fact it is a flawed concept.
-
Yep, I guess that’s the way it works. The general idea is that anything that uses “poly” is going to eat up DSP really quick, some more than others, and as you note, things that are no longer available become “greyed out”. To conserve DSP, it's best to use on mono versions of the effects. Some amps also gobble large amounts of DSP. Somewhere on here is a link to a chart showing the DSP use of all the blocks in Helix (pre v3.0) - check Ben Vesco or Malhavok and it should show up. Hope this helps/makes sense

Sir, you are a star, providing a great resource for the Helix clan, that’s excellent news.

Hi, If you have a completely empty setlist -simply export it then re-import it into the list you want to replace, otherwise read on.... Possibly the quickest way is to first ensure that you have a backup of all your own presets that you want to keep, either as setlists or individual presets Then restart your Helix while holding down footswitches 7&8 which will reset the presets to factory and keep any IRs you have. This should then have only the 2 factory and the template setlist available, the other setlists a cleared out. Then from HX Edit you can export an empty setlist, eg: User 1, then re-import that list to overwrite the setlists you wish to remove ( Factory 1 & 2) then rename the setlist to whatever you want. Doing this means you can essentially create a completely empty Helix and then load whatever you wish, either your own individual setlists or single preset to build your own setlists. The other thing you could do is find a blank preset, copy and paste it over all the slots that you want to free up. It’s a bit tedious. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Sadly - I did read the whole post and gave my personal opinion, which didn’t agree with yours - along with many others. So, when you say things such as “Come on, guys!!! So many negative answers!” maybe you should re-read your whole post and seriously consider what you are asking for. In terms of cost of manufacturing and marketing alone - it would never get started, simply because Line 6 already has products to do the job. You even brush aside the comment from “zappazapper” about the simplest solution of adding a second HX Stomp. Line 6 deliberately made the HXFX and Stomp for those who didn’t require all the extra processing, and those who do, invest in the other boxes. There is some information around here, or you could even use Google, to find just how much R&D time went into producing what we have now. Then there are the things that are already in development by Line 6, that we have no knowledge of. I don’t really see them dropping everything to take on your idea, for a possibly, very limited market. Hope this helps/makes sense.
