Hi, I said this was a new one on me and it is - Try as I might I cannot get USB7 or USB8 (set to guitar) to get close to the original processed audio coming in in stereo on USB 1&2. I have my guitar to Helix GUITAR IN > Helix Preset (amp+cab, flanger, delay, verb) > OUTPUT Multi (1/4", XLR, Digital, USB1/2) > USB cable into Logic Pro X on an iMac 27"Retina 5k (32GB RAM) running Catalina, XLRs from Helix into Tannoy 8" monitors. It just works - I have never seen the signal get close to being too hot on USB 7 or 8. Don't know what to suggest, other than try another USB cable. I'm guessing from your post that this is the first time that you have hooked up your Helix to the DAW, or did you have it working fine, and now it's too hot on the input? Humour me - load this template into Logic and see if it still happens. Double click to unzip them load into Logic. Helix Template.zip

Use Snapshots to Store Delay ms -vs- Tap Tempo Sync?
datacommando replied to VmusicV's topic in Helix
You must become a "Time Lord" - all music is time. Simple! I told you in my first post that it is all down to arithmetic and gave you the link that would provide a way of doing most of the hard work for you. "theElevators" has even provided a video that explains how this works. As was stated in the video, if you specify the Snapshot time as 500ms that's fine, you simply need to realise that at 120BPM, 500ms equates to 1/4 note. If you them TAP 100BPM the delay will become 600ms which is the same as 1/4note at that tempo. Likewise if you swap to 125BPM then the 1/4 note delay time is 480ms. Easy eh? You say "the delay works two ways" - No! it has 2 ways of showing divisions of time - Everything is based in time, that's the way it always has worked! -
Use Snapshots to Store Delay ms -vs- Tap Tempo Sync?
datacommando replied to VmusicV's topic in Helix
Hi, You simply need to work out the 1/4 note in milliseconds based on the tempo, that way you can program all the repeats in milliseconds. It’s a little late at night for me to go through typing out all the arithmetic involved, so I will let you do the “homework” Check this: https://tuneform.com/tools/time-tempo-bpm-to-milliseconds-ms Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, Well, that's a new one on me. I use my Helix into Logic Pro almost daily with the processed audio in stereo on USB 1&2 and the DI on USB 7, it just works as expected direct out from the Helix as the interface and monitors on Helix XLRs for zero latency. It's usually that the USB 7 signal is way down in comparison. No idea what might be causing that and I'm just about to shut down for today, and won't be back in the studio until tomorrow, so Im not in a position to help troubleshoot the issue until then. Sorry I can't assist right now, hopefully some other Mac user can chime in.

Yep, the Humbolt Simplifier occurred in another thread quite recently. Obviously not that simple a device. ;-) Similar double posts re: scroll speed on editing when using the knobs.

Yay - solved! Hope you didn’t mind our sense of fun, especially on your first post! I still can’t understand why some pictures of the Helix XLR sockets show the metal tag on the Right only and others show them on both Left and Right. Oh, hum - file under “weird”.
-
Hi, These forums are not monitored by Line 6 staff. Therefore if you wish to have your comment regarding the scrolling speed to have any chance of being seen and/or implemented, I suggest you follow the advice given by “rd2rk” in the thread linked below. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, If you are looking to sell one of your copies of Helix Native it may be advisable to post in the Native section of the forum. That’s the place where you’re most likely to find a buyer, but please note that most of them don’t want to pay more than half the actual face value. link: https://line6.com/support/forum/90-helix-native/ Hope this helps/makes sense.

Yep, that's what I mean and in 4CM that's the way it works, but this seems to be wired up the wrong way round - Oh hum!

Helix gurus - how would you approximate this amazing tone on the helix?
datacommando replied to joepringle's topic in Helix
LOL - Don't know nuthin' 'bout the bread, but for a moment there, I though it was going to turn into Led Zeppelin's "Heartbreaker". You could start right there. -
Exactly what "phil_m" says in his reply above. You have the Chorus - Reverb - Delay being sent back out to an overdriven amp,. Result = distorted delay. No way round that really. Running the 4CM will give you a clean delay as it happens after the OD. Don't know why you're getting microphonic feedback though, there could be dozens of reasons for that. Hope that makes sense.

O.K. Seriously, check the XLR sockets on the rear and on the one marked RIGHT you should be able to see a small metal tag. If you don’t see it then that might be your “clip”. I think the metal tab is to detect if you’re using the LEFT XLR for a mono output, but don’t quote me on that, it’s just a guess. As for putting it back in place, we’ll that would require opening up your Helix. You don’t say how old the Helix is and/or if it is still within warranty. If it is covered, simply raise a ticket with Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: Stranger, and stranger - the promo pic of the rear panel on the Line 6 Helix site shows a metal tab on the right XLR socket, but I found a similar rear panel shot on a U.K website and you can clearly see 2 metal tabs - one on each. Uh? https://line6.com/helix/helix-floor-rack.html https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/150611287296002--line-6-helix-floor

Hi, The first thing to check is if the Send/Return block is set to instrument or line level. Strymon Timeline, which IIRC has Hi Z inputs and expects an instrument level signal. Global Settings > Ins/Outs Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, You can find a diagram of how to connect your HX Stomp and your amp using the 4 cable method on page 9 of the HX Stomp 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev D - English. You should also be able to find an example set-up in the TEMPLATES factory setlist that ships with your hardware. That should put you on the right track. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Help with HX Effects full stereo amp/effects loops setup
datacommando replied to wildcatstrat41's topic in Helix
Not sure what happened to the preset, but it’s good to know that you managed to figure out how to modify it for your purpose. Have fun. -
Oh my god! It looks like one of the retaining plungers that are used on the crystal absorption unit built into the front end of the spronk flangers. You may have to switch to battery power, but whatever you do - don’t expose it to daylight. Arrrgg - too late! Immerse it in a bucket of blue steam and wait for the disposal team to arrive.

LOL - I hope that Dr. Dre is paying you for plugging his awful product. ;-) It’s purely “horses for courses” - what one guy thinks are great cans the next guy may not agree, as we can see from all the various discussions that continue to appear on this forum. I have lots of different headphones available to use from a variety of reasonable, and budget brand names, Sony, Audio Technica, Sennheiser, Tandberg, Superlux. I have found that if I am checking a recording while wearing, for example the ATH-M50x and then switching to the Tannoys without noticing a jarring difference, then that’s near enough for jazz, or close enough for rock and roll. As you note, I too have gone down the path of spending an 18 hour day in the studios and then dropping a mix onto a cassette to listen to in the car on the way home. The morning after you realise what it is to have “ear fatigue”. I used to think that “studio standard” cans must be the thing to have because, let’s face it, that is what the typical studio musician/engineer was using as a reference. Hmm… not really, you just need to check out what bands like the Beatles used while recording Sgt Pepper’s. Example: Luckily Abbey Road Studio has better suggestions as starter options now. https://spinnup.com/as/blog/abbey-roads-beginner-studio-set-up-guide-blog/

Please, please, please! - always ensure that your Firmware and HX Edit version numbers match - if not you will have issues.

Hi, See the post from “silverhead” above. In point 2 he explains that you should “Extract Files from Backup” to a folder on your Mac, then find your Preset 09A in that folder, then drag and drop it back into HX Edit. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: Drat! Thanks the second time. ;-)
-
Hi, Micke, Yes, you can. Click the 'File' --> 'Restore From Backup' command in HX Edit, select the backup you want to recover the old presets from, and run the restore. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: “silverhead” beat me to it!

Here's a quote from Digital Igloo (Eric Klein - Chief Product Design Architect at Yamaha Guitar Group, Inc. / Line 6 / Ampeg) posted way back in 2017 in this thread - "A well-known recording engineer friend and I were talking a while back and he mentioned that some older professional recording gear might get worse reviews today simply because headphone impedances have been dropping steadily. Back then, there was a much better chance that any over-the-ear headphones would be high enough impedance to sound great on gear at the time. Now it's all about blowing kids' eardrums out with their $200 Beats that are designed to push enough bass from a phone's puny headphone amp. Helix is professional gear "designed for professionals" and we weren't about to dumb down our headphone amp because everyone happens to have white earbuds in some drawer in their house. Feel free to use consumer cans, but don't expect it to sound great. BTW, a lower-impedance doesn't necessarily mean worse specs; it simply means the cans were designed for a different purpose. There are amazing-sounding, über-expensive low-impedance cans that sound amazing on phones but terrible on pro gear. And there are amazing-sounding, über-expensive high-impedance cans that sound amazing on pro gear but terrible on phones." Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, That would be my first guess, but when weird stuff starts to happen with the Helix the first thing to try to bring it back on track is a Factory Reset. Find all the reset Options here: https://helixhelp.com/tips-and-guides/universal/reset-options Hope the helps/makes sense.

Hi, You didn’t mention if this stereo to mono issue happens with all your delays, or only certain ones. I mention this because Jason Sadites made a video specifically about the Transistor Tape model where, even when you select a stereo model, it is possible to have it behave in a mono fashion simply by setting the “Spread” to zero, and the “Scale” @ 100%. Check this for clarification: Hope this helps/makes sense.

HX Edit "no device connected" problem. Help please.
datacommando replied to josegermain's topic in Helix
Hi, That’s good to know and maybe your “update” might help others with similar issues. “Why I didn't check that at first place?” - well, it’s usually the last place you look that reveals the solution. ;-) -
Hi, again. Hmm… I would have sworn that I managed to put the Cosmos delay in to oscillation by using the time and feedback being swept with an expression pedal. I’m not in the studio for a while so I haven’t been able to set up a test, but I found this that may point you in the right direction to achieve the “twist” effect by add Ramp into the equation. Experiment - you can’t damage virtual tape! Hope this helps/makes sense.
