Hi again, If you want to use the Trio in any of your presets, then the same configuration of SEND/RETURN settings will need to be added into each, and every preset you wish to use. It is an integral part of the signal chain for each preset that you want to use with the Trio. It is not a situation where you can set it once, and then use it anywhere. You also have to remember that using the Trio in this way takes 2 blocks to enable it. Therefore, you may find you need to modify some, or all, of your existing presets if they are already fx heavy and pushing the limit of available blocks and/or DSP. It may require a rethink of some of your presets to have them work with the external unit. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: I have just had another look at the signal flow diagram above, which shows the first Send/Return block is before any guitar amp and effects in the chain. This will feed a clean guitar signal to the Trio+ to enable the learn function, the clean return continues through to your guitar amp and fx. Once learned, you simply use the guitar amp and fx as normal. The last block is the return from the Trio+, which is post all the guitar processing and provides a clean accompaniment. That’s what you are wanting to achieve, but as I have already said, this same configuration needs to be in each and every preset you want to use with the band in a box.

Digital meathead b*tthurt that L6 Link disables S/PDIF…
datacommando replied to LesSand's topic in Helix
Where I live, some people used to dance to the sound of fax machines and car alarms. ;-) Oh, yeah - 28.8 mbps - luxury! I think I still have a US Robotics 14400 Sportster somewhere round here.- 10 replies

Digital meathead b*tthurt that L6 Link disables S/PDIF…
datacommando replied to LesSand's topic in Helix
Hi, You seem to be surprised, and somewhat annoyed, by that the fact that you can only use the S/PDIF, or the L6 LINK, but not both simultaneously. This information is clearly documented in the Helix Rack 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev E - English page 65 “One digital output can be active at a time; choose S/PDIF or AES/EBU. Connecting an L6 LINK device to Helix automatically disables S/PDIF out. USB audio is not affected by this setting.” AFAIK, this has always been the case right from the launch - it hasn’t changed. You can still use all the available USB channels for audio, but you do not like that option. Note: the sound of ones and zeros is not very pleasant. Hope this help/makes sense.- 10 replies

Hi, One of the early comments in this thread was a link to Facebook, but you don't need a Facebook account to download the preset in the post you quoted - the link in that post is to the Line 6 Customtone site where registered users can freely share presets. Patch can be found in CustomTone: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2152016/ At first glance, I'm not sure that this will work with your Helix LT as the diagrams seen to to show the patch uses 3 Send/Return blocks and AFAIK the LT only has 2 Send/Return jack sockets. You have nothing to lose by downloading the file to see if it will load into your LT using HX Edit - then using the illustrations provided here, maybe you could find a way to modify it for your rig. Also, using Send/Return, or FX Loops are not detrimental to the tone - there would be no point in having them if they were. They are tools to get the job done, routing signals in and out of the chain. Hope this helps/makes sense

Setting it up at home vs playing through PA with band

Yay! Congratulations. When you get your Helix, remember, there are always other users here to help out when you find something you’re not sure about. Welcome to planet Helix. -
Setting it up at home vs playing through PA with band
datacommando replied to lespool79's topic in Helix
No, not really. A Helix floor may look like the flight deck of a starship, but it can replace a whole room full of amps, and racks full of outboard gear. Once you start to play around with it for a while, you will find it all clicks into place, and rather than dragging tons of equipment around from gig to gig - it’s all in one relatively small footprint unit. Can’t fail. There are stacks of YouTube videos doing run throughs, and demos of how to use the thing - check them out and get familiar with how it functions. There is a user group on Facebook with over 37,000 users - most of them thought it was too complex for them, but now! Hope this helps/makes sense. -

This has been discussed at length many, many times on here. Two words - Fletcher–Munson. Here's one example - I recommend that you check the reply from "codamedia" Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi; If you are using a Windows PC then follow the advice given by the contributors above, if you are using a Mac click on the speaker icon in the menu bar, top right, beside the time and date. From the drop down menu select your output device from the list. The same options are available in the System Preferences under the Sound icon. You can configure all your audio ins and outs using the Audio/MIDI Setup utility found in the Utilities Folder available from under the "Go" menu option when in the Finder window, or use "Shift Command U" on the keyboard then double click "Audio/MIDI Setup". Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, The "strange default" you mention is simply the standard default setting of how HX Edit works, just like the hardware Helix when you scroll to select Amp+Cab. Amp, or Preamp, the first option is Guitar, next Bass. Nothing unusual there. When choosing an Amplifier, the option to select from the Bass models is a single mouse click, it's not complex. There is currently no way to change the option for default settings in the HX Edit preferences, although you could try posting a request on IdeaScale and see how far it gets up the greasy pole. https://line6.ideascale.com/c/campaigns/51424/stage/all/ideas/unspecified Hope this helps/makes sense.

Yes, I agree and I think that this could be better. Some users have a tendency to misinterpret a reply as “snarky” when that is not the intention, but there is no accounting for how some folks will react. I cannot see it happening though. I checked the features available for this forum, and it appears that what we already have is the total limit of the “reactions” available. https://invisioncommunity.com/features/forums/ It could use some sort of “spring clean” and a spruce up. Oh, yeah - and more space. I had to ditch lots of pertinent screenshots and now those replies don’t seem to make sense. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Looks a little like “reefer madness” to me! Shock, horror!

Sorry, I’m unable to clarify any further, because I have no concept of what you are trying to achieve here? If you are using hardware, you can send to whatever physical outputs you select, or decide to use. Therefore, the XLR sockets can be connected to a (powered) speaker cabinet, and the 1/4” sockets can connect to something else, for example - a mixing board. Helix Native is a software plug-in that runs inside a DAW on your computer. It doesn’t have any physical XLR, or 1/4” jack sockets. It is designed record and playback audio from your hardware unit, or any other audio interface, via USB. Inside Helix Native all routing is virtual, and blocks such as Send/Return, XLR & 1/4” outputs do not exist. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi Mike, You might want to investigate using the Studio Tube Preamp (based on a Requisite Y7 mic preamp), add an EQ block or two to mimic your Loudbox features - shelving treble, bass and notch filtering. Add a LA Studio Compressor, chorus, delay and dynamic reverb. That should give you a place to start recreating the tone that you already know. I have used this setup for recording with my Fishman Rare Earth Blend equipped acoustic (one path for the pickup and the other for the mic), and another one a with K&K Pure system. It is also the starting point for when I am only using condenser mics. You will need to mess around to get it how it suits you, and works with your instrument(s). Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi Danny, You said that your computer and Helix both encountered difficulties during the update. Since then you have had issues, which might seem to indicate that although you think you managed to “miraculously” update your device, that may not be the case. When weird unexplained/unexpected things happen, then it may be time to perform a factory reset, or even a full reinstall of the firmware. Also you say - “I may be missing some new features” - once more this is an indication that the installation has not worked as expected, and/or, you have not updated your HX Edit software to the current version. There is an entire “sticky” thread here regarding this issue from previous updates: When you fix the problems you currently have, you will find the Acoustic Sim under the EQ Models of your Helix as documented in the Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev F - English - page 29. The manual is your friend. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Sure did, and that was the reason I said - “You might be in for quite a long wait”, as you had directed your response specifically to the OP. I cannot fault you on that - it definitely might assist other users.

Hi, This is normal - consider that your HX device is essentially a computer. If you add presets that differ from the ones installed, the “Rebuild” routine will run to ensure that all your presets are fully compatible with the current firmware. The rebuild will occur if it is either a single, or many preset slots that are modified, so sometime the process is quicker than others. Regard it as the Helix is “housekeeping” and keeping everything tidy. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Let’s try this - first connect your Mission pedal to the jack socket marked EXP 3 on the rear panel of the Helix. Next, either using a preset that already has a wah block, or create a new patch and add your choice of wah block to the signal path. Now using the joystick, highlight the wah block and press the “hamburger” menu (three horizontal lines) button, to the right of the “Save” button. Press knob 2 “Controller” below the main screen, and turn it to select “EXP 3” then you should see the “Min” , “Max” values of 0 and 100% are set and your wah should function. There are other ways to do this documented in the Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev F - English - page 53 Controller Assign. It’s very helpful. Hope this helps/makes sense.

From the 3.15 Release Notes: IMPORTANT! We ran out of reserved Global CCs and unfortunately had to steal five user-assignable CCs for this feature. Any parameters you've assigned to CC77-CC81 will have to be remapped. Sorry 'bout that. Therefore, as noted by “mrchevy327” in the post above, if you were using any of those you will need to remap the CCs. You could also try his other suggestion of restoring once more. Hope this helps/makes sense.

I guess what you need is “stackable snapshots”. See the video below, in which Steve Sterlacci is using a HX Stomp, but the technique is the same for all units. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Yep… you fried it. Ouch!

Well, the best place to start with things like “how to save a preset” is the manual - it never fails. Page 33 - Using the Preset File Menu Oh, if you can’t find it - choose the Pilot’s Guide option from the menu to open the PDF Hope this helps/makes sense.

There are usually requests from people wanting to buy or sell Helix Native licenses over in the dedicated Helix Native forum. The downside is most of them do not want to pay very much - everyone wants a bargain. https://line6.com/support/forum/90-helix-native/

Not a far as I can tell, I just checked and all HX products are listed as $99.99, upgrades from Pod Farm are more expensive. As you note the prices are often reduced during “flash” sales. IIRC I bought mine in a sale promo with an extra 30% off.

Hi, Answer: In the video that you posted you can clearly see that when doing the live show with Mister Big he was using a Helix Rack unit. Although in the video which is in the thread (linked below), he is using the Helix LT as part of his fly-rig. I had a quick look on CustomTone and I could only see two presets listed for Billy Sheehan style under HX Stomp, but there are 20 under Helix. If you buy any version of the Helix hardware, once you register your product, you can buy Helix Native for $99.99 (sometimes less during sales), but I think you maybe misunderstanding the purpose of Native. If you wish to modify existing presets, or create new ones from scratch, you use the FREE HX Edit application for that. HX Edit also can also be used as a librarian program for your presets. Helix Native is the full blown Helix software (brain) that usually runs in the product hardware. It is software only and functions as an AU, VST plug-in for a Digital Audio Workstation. The advantage of Native is if leave your hardware in your rehearsal room, you can still have all the same sounds available at home in your DAW. Furthermore it has a “hardware compatible” mode, thus making sure that any preset you create while using it will also work with h your unit. Hope this helps/makes sense.
