You might be in for quite a long wait. You have resurrected a single post made way back in 2016, and it appears that the OP had already solved the issue. If you check the guy’s profile, you would note that the last visit he made to the forum was in January 2021, but his last contribution was I’m May 2018. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Regarding what has recently been added to the Firmware - Johnnathan Cordy has a run through of what you can create now, with a little experimentation.

Hi, You must have your version of Native running in one of the hardware compatibility modes. Turn this restriction “off” in the preferences window. From the Helix Native Pilot’s Guide - Rev P (v.3.15) - English - pages 14 & 15. “Off - Once a preset is saved in, or exported from, Helix Native in this HC mode setting, the preset can be loaded or imported into Helix Native in this mode setting with no translation required. When set to Off, the UI and options are essentially the same as the Helix HC mode, but with several restrictions removed (see the "HC Mode Feature Comparison Table"). Just remember when working in this Off mode—with greater power comes greater responsibility! Without the restrictions imposed as in other HC modes, it is possible to create a preset in a single plugin instance that can place significant CPU demands on your computer system. Creating a preset that exceeds the limits of other HC modes also means the preset will not be able to be translated and utilized in HX Edit with any Helix or HX device and only loaded in Helix Native when it is set to the HC mode Off state.” https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a4179ea61fd2e9472da7/application/pdf/Helix Native 3.15 Pilot's Guide - English .pdf As for “Future Helix” - don’t hold your breath. Digital Igloo said over on TGP something to the effect of “Do you really think we would be spending so much time developing Firmware Updates for Helix, if it was to reach EOL in the next few years - no!”. As noted by “brue58ski” in the post above - even if they did have something in the pipeline, this is the last place you would hear about it. Hope this helps/makes sense.

“Still an issue” - this thread is from 2016. “There should be a super easy way to do this from HX Edit too me thinx” Well, methinks there is, and it is listed on page 40 of the HX Edit Pilot’s Guide - Rev T (v3.15) English Customizing a Footswitch Label For any selected Bypass or Controller assignment that is created using your device’s Footswitch, you’ll see a Customize control displaying the block model’s default name. This is the label displayed on the hardware’s scribble strip for this footswitch (or on the LCD screen for a Helix LT, HX Stomp, or HX Stomp XL device) when your device is in Stomp Footswitch Mode. If you want to customize this label, double-click on the existing name, type your new text in the field, and hit your Enter/Return key. To clear your text and return to the default model label, click the Clear (eraser) button to the right of the field. Similar details re: Customizing a Footswitch Label are mentioned in the Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev F - English on page 52 All the info you might need to rename a Scribble Strip. Not too difficult really? Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Hmm… well this thread is discussing something entirely different from the situation you are describing, but hey, here we go. If you are attempting to download and install presets from CustomTone, you will most likely encounter the error with an Impulse Response “not found in library”, simply because you don’t have the IR used in the construction of the preset. If the designated IR is from a commercial source (Ownhammer, 3 Sigma, et al), you will need to purchase that particular item. Lots of the presets available on CustomTone will make reference to a free IR used in the patch. If you read the notes alongside the preset you want to use, it should tell you what IR you need to use. Other than that, if you think that the preset has possibly been designed to use a 4x12 Greenback IR, simply ignore the warning and replace the IR with a 4x12 cab in the Helix. If you also encounter the “models unrecognizable”, you need to ensure that you are using the very latest firmware (V.3.15) in your Helix LT, because if the preset has be made with firmware more recent than that you have installed, then the chances are it will be missing components. EDIT: There is a whole section about Impulse Response and IR File Reference on pages 39 & 40 of the Helix LT 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev D - English. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3f18374611d5dffd3a45/application/pdf/Helix LT 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev D - English .pdf Furthermore: regarding the “models unrecognizable” issue, check the “Preferences” in your version of HX Edit and make sure that it is actually set for your LT. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Ahem, that’s why I posted the “Pat Metheny” synth video. If you watch how he puts it together, he swaps blocks for demonstrating some of the other waveform options. Basically, as you’re unfamiliar with the synth thing, you could start by experimenting using his technique with various synth blocks and see what you can create. I thought you were looking for a general approach to guitar synthesis. I have owned a Roland GR33 for years and fretting notes precisely is a big requirement - you have to change your approach to playing to prevent false triggering etc. You did state in your original post - “I'm not asking for a free handout...”
-
Hi, This young guy has quite a good take on the Pat Metheny guitar synth tone, if it is of any interest.
-
I think this is aimed more towards the Katana, and Fender Mustang fans of trouser flapping guitar cabs. Johnathan Cordy give it a road test here: A few days back I saw the video of Ben Adrian doing demos of these amp models, and I was thinking they might getting ready be part of the next v.3.20 firmware. Now I’m not so sure, as these amps can be used in 4CM with existing HX family products.

This must be the hardware that has been hinted at for a while.

Hi, It seems that “rd2rk” has it covered in his post above, but for a diagram of how it all works: check out page 21 of the Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev F - English. Super Serial - A picture is worth a thousand words, (or the 85 above), as the saying goes. ;) Hope this helps/makes sense.

Cut and Paste from an earlier Post - again! Hi, There is a whole sticky thread on here that was created simply because on a previous firmware update so may people were failing to see any new amps, and effects it became tedious to keep on making the same reply. One thing that I found with Mac users who were having this issue, was that sometimes (even when they thought that they had removed the older version of HX Edit) they found that at some point they may have had an "alias" on their Mac that was pointing back to and launching the wrong version. There was also an issue that some users were using Firefox to download the installer files and that Firefox would for some reason open an older version that was still in the download cache. If you use Firefox to download your files, when the alert pops up asking - "What should Firefox do with this file", click the radio button "Save File" - DO NOT let it make the decision about handling the unpacking of the files. https://line6.com/support/topic/60548-seriously-if-you-don’t-see-the-new-amp-and-effects-models-after-updating-it-means-you-need-to-update-hx-edit/ Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Sorry to hear that you were unable to fix this, and sadly I don’t have any other tried and tested method to “resurrect” your hardware. The only other option is to try and find someone/friend/bandmate, who would be willing to assist you fix this by using another computer, either Windows or Mac. If that is not an option, I would suggest raising a ticket with Customer Support and explain that you have gone though all the regular routines to fix it, and you may have a genuine hardware failure. Over all the years that the Helix/HX products have been available, I found that it is exceptionally rare for software to totally junk the hardware. An electrical component can fail at the most unexpected time and there is no way to plan for that and without having a complete second unit ready to roll - well - it’s known as fail safe. Hopefully this can be rectified swiftly.
-
Hi, Not sure if you are using a Mac, but this “harking back” to an older version is something I have mentioned in posts, specifically for Mac users who have an “alias” on their machine. Hopefully, Line 6 will improve the installation routine to download the required package, then disconnect from the internet and delete the previous HX Edit as part of the process. Thanks for the info - Glad you got it fixed.

It did - and it does. “Literally just got a gig that requires the Helix” There is a old maxim in the Helix forum, that goes along the lines of - “Never update in the days before a gig!” O.K. Let’s give this one more shot - Recover from failed update procedures v.3.15 First - remove all prior installations of Line 6 HX Edit - on a Mac ensure there are no aliases pointing back to an earlier version. Now go to the "DOWNLOADS" menu at the top of this page and from "- Choose Hardware -" select Helix, then under "- Choose Software -" select HX Edit, now select your PC/Mac OS from under the "- Choose OS -" tab, then click “Go”. From the next page you can select HX Edit 3.15 for your Helix LT, repeat the download procedure for the Firmware v.3.15 Flash Memory, and the Line 6 Updater version 1.23. Download all these items to your computer and note where they are. Unplug the USB cable from both your computer and the Helix, then turn the Helix off and then on again while holding down Foot Switches 6&12 while turning the power on. This will put your Helix into “Safe Boot” mode, at this point you may see a black, or error screen, but just keep going. Ensure that HX Edit is closed and reconnect you Helix to your computer with a known good USB cable - do not use a hub, some front USB ports on PCs act like a hub, so use one of the ports on the back. Ensure you are disconnected from the internet, also Shut down all Line 6 software or any programs that use audio, like DAWs, iTunes, Spotify, video games, etc. If your computer's sleep timer is set relatively short, disable it, as the update can fail if your computer goes to sleep. Make sure external devices are not currently sending MIDI to Helix/HX. If you're unsure, unplug Helix/HX's MIDI IN port. Now launch the Updater Utility that you downloaded earlier, and then select "Offline Mode". Your Helix and current firmware version should now show up in the window, click on the dark green coloured band and you should now have the option to select a local file - click “Choose File”, point it at the Flash Memory file you downloaded and let it get on with the update. If you are updating from a firmware version prior to v.2.80 the installation may appear to happen twice - this is normal as the Core operating system is being modified. When it completes, you need to perform a factory reset on your Helix, then you can install the new HX Edit v.3.15 software, perform a restore from backup using the file you created before starting the failed update, and you should be good to go. Please note: After you complete the restore from back up, you will notice that the next time you restart the hardware, it will run the “Rebuilding Presets” routine. This is perfectly normal as it ensures that all you older presets are optimised for use in the new firmware. Also, any time you install a preset created with an earlier version of the firmware (e.g. a preset downloaded from CustomTone, etc.), the Rebuilding Presets function will run again after the next restart - this is an expected housekeeping routine for the unit. No guarantees are given or implied, you do this at your own risk. If it doesn’t work, raise a ticket with Customer Support - you may have a hardware issue that cannot be resolved by anyone in this user forum. Hope this helps/makes sense.

HX Edit doesn't show the new Effects after 3.15 update
datacommando replied to FusorHawk's topic in Helix
Well, the guy “phil7up”, seems to have just up, and vanished - deleted his question and account. Had no reply to say if he had updated his HX Edit and could now see the new stuff. Surely, it wasn’t that embarrassing? -
Here ya go, a “secret technique” that I have used for years on acoustic guitars. I first found out how to do this way back in my youth in 1968, long before credit cards - we used a wooden matchstick for the same result. Or you could simply watch this guy. And , of course, there is always Jon Gomm. Enjoy.

I have seen comments across various sites where users have said it may purely be an issue with the servers at the Line 6 end. You could try doing a download to your computer and doing a local install, thus avoiding any net traffic bottlenecks. I experienced absolutely no complications whatsoever. I launched HX Edit, which noted the update was available, clicked get update, made backup of existing contents of Helix floor. Installed new firmware, did factory reset, rebuilt presets, restored backup, restarted hardware and rebuilt the presets second time. Total process around 40 minutes. One of the fastest, smoothest updates in 6 years. The initial backup of the Helix was probably the fastest I have ever experienced, although a little slower on the restore and the rebuild is never quick. After doing the update on the hardware, I did the update on Helix Native which was even faster - possibly 10 minutes maximum. I’m not being snarky, but after 6 years it really is beyond me how many people still have issues with these updates, and then never report back as to how it was resolved. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, As you have noted - “perhaps my OS X (El Capitan 10.11.6)” - which is very likely why the release notes for v.3.15 actually states MacOS Sierra or higher. Maybe time to update? Hope this helps/makes sense.

Just a thought. Have you checked your Global settings to make sure everything is as it should be?

English: Thank you - glad to know it is all working now. Please note: After you complete the restore from back up, you will notice that the next time you restart the hardware, it will run the “Rebuilding Presets” routine. This is perfectly normal as it ensures that all you older presets are optimised for use in the new firmware. Hi Vincent, It would be a big help to all of us if you could say what “specific synth sounds” you are wanting to achieve? Helix is capable of creating lots of “synth” noises - see this video (3:49) with Digital Igloo showing off the 3 Note Generator blocks - but an Arturia PolyBrute it is not. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hola, De las Notas de la versión 3.15 (en inglés) dice: “Mi Helix/HX está en la versión X.XX. ¿Puedo ir directamente a 3.15? Sí, pero tenga en cuenta que si está comenzando desde 2.80 o inferior, la actualización parecerá ocurrir dos veces. Esto es normal.” Espero que esto ayude/tenga sentido. English: Hello, From the 3.15 Release Notes (in English) it states: “My Helix/HX is at version X.XX. Can I go straight to 3.15? Yes, but note that if you're starting from 2.80 or lower, the update will appear to happen twice. This is normal.” Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi again, I 'm more of a Mac Pilot than Windows, but I did find a comment somewhere about deleting the interlock file for the driver. Here is where it is located, the path is: C:\ProgramData\Line6\HelixInterlock. Delete the HelixInterlock file and then try to reconnect with HX Edit. No sure if this will help, but give it a shot.
