That's the most common use of it. I used this feature (albeit not a deep) on the Vetta II to tune my output to the room a bit better when giging. Some rooms are boomy, some shrill. It's a quick way to adjust the whole tone of your rig without messing with each patch. I haven't updated yet, but I believe it's located in the System setup on the HD500x/Pro X. It's not available thru the HD Edit application.

Well...I've taken the plunge, and the water is great! I posted previously that I was getting good tones with my Vetta II/HD500x combination.. but thought I could do better. So since then I've sold my Vetta II (and my old AX212 as well) and purchased a Alto TS110A powered speaker (with another on the way). And now... oh the tones I'm getting! I got my TS110A on Sunday afternoon and spent most of the evening putting it thru its paces and tweaking my patches for the new setup, and getting it all ready for tonight's band rehearsal. Needless to say, the guys in the band were a bit shocked when I walked in with my guitar case in one hand, the HD500X in my bag over my shoulder, and the TS110A in my other hand - no more 73lbs amp to lug around! But once I got it all hooked up and we started playing... they all commented about 1) how good it sounded and 2) how they could all hear me much better - The TS110A was on on top of a bunch of other gear with the horn at about shoulder level facing the band. I've still got more tweaking to do - now that I've heard my patches at "stage volume" - but I'm at least 80% there. The only real issue of the evening was the big differences in levels between patches, but I knew that was going to happen. But since I have one patch per song (I turn ON/OFF FX as needed, and roll my volume on the guitar around a bit for tone/gain differences), it didn't mess with the vibe at all. So... I'm a total believer/convert to running a FRFR rig now. I'm getting awesome tones that have that something "extra" I was missing with my old rig.

Yes... you can. The only thing to remember is that the XLR outs are discreet left and right, where as the 1/4" gives you a summed (L+R) mono out and/or a stereo connection. If you are running stereo FX and only take one of the XLR outs... you will only get 1 channel.

For me, this was the big key to getting my live rig setup finally dialed in. You can't tell what your patches really are going to sound like unless you play them at (more or less) stage volume.

The only way I've found to do a good level check is playing at (more or less) stage volume and using a sound level meter. I downloaded a level meter for my iPhone, and then set my rig up in my house at about 60% of my stage volume. then I played thru all my patches for gigs, and adjust them to have about the same volume.

I have my HD500X setup as one patch per song, with FS1-8 setup to turn on FX as needed. For controlling the gain, I just dial back the volume on the guitar most of the time. For a few patches, I do kick in a tube screamer or tube drive if I need to have a bit more "hair" on the solo. For a solo boost, I use the tube compressor as the last FX block and use it to bump up by about 4db, with no compression. But, I may replace this with the FX Loop Boost trick instead. As for FX order, here is my basic setup comp->distortion/overdrive->wha->amp->mod fx->(sometimes EQ)->tube comp boost->reverb-> out For getting the volumes right... I used a sound level meter on my iPhone, while I played at about 60% of my stage volume at home. This let me dial the volumes in so that just about everything was good. I don't know of any other way really to make sure your patch-to-patch volume is about the same. And, you have to do this at a fairly loud volume... low level won't cut it.

Just point of clarification... MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) doesn't contain any audio, and is used to allow some devices (Synths, Computers, Rack FX) to "talk" to each other and to be controlled. L6 Link is not the same as MIDI, but is a proprietary way of sending digital audio between some Line6 products.

Yeah.. it's a total shot in the dark. I'm looking to sell it - I've gone over to the HD500X - and would like to have a fully working FBV longboard to go with it. I've got a support ticket in to see if they can help.

Hey all, I've got a cracked LCD on my FBV (longboard) that goes with my Vetta II. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement LCD? I know that Full Compass sells replacement Line6 parts... but, they don't have a listing for the FBV LCD specifically. A model number would be a big help. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone for your input.. much food for thought. I patched my HD500 into my M-Audio BX8s (my home studio monitors) last night, and with a little tweaking to my patches, was able to get some tones that are closer to what I want. So now I'm even more inclined to take the FRFR plunge. As much as I think the L2m would probably be the perfect addition to my rig, it's quite hard to justify the $750 for it - especially when the Alto TS110A (which many on here seem to use and like) are only $250 each and I don't gig that often with the band.

I just went thru this with a buddy of mine. We spent about 2 hours listening to various powered monitors at the local GC and ultimately walked out with a pair of Yamaha HS8s. To my ear, they sounded the best in the “under $400 each†category. The HS5s are also good (with less bass extension) at $200 each. If you can, go have a listen.

Hey all, Currently I am running the HD500X outputs into the FX return of my Vetta II combo – with the HD500X set to “Combo Power Amp†for the output and an “empty†patch on the Vetta II. And for the most part I’ve been pretty happy with this combination – albeit after some good amount of tweaking. But now I’m toying with the idea of going to a FRFR rig with my HD500x. While what I have works well… but it feels like I might be better off going the FRFR route. I had band rehearsal last night and it just didn’t sound as good as I think it can. So my question is for those of you who run FRFR rigs… and more importantly gigging rigs: What speaker setup did you end up going with? Are you running Mono or Stereo? Why did you choose that particular speaker setup? I’ve seen some talk about the Alto speakers… and the Line6 L2t looks very nice, but is also a bit spendy. Thanks in advance for your input.

What you are talking about here is using MIDI to send Program Changes to the unit (Fractal, HD500, or anything else really) to change the sounds at a specific time. Many bands have a laptop that is sending out these program changes as well as a click track for the drummer. YMMV... but Yes, the Hd500x can do this.

Compressors can also "flavor" your tone in good ways and bad. The Studio Compressor in the HD500x has a bit of a bass "bump" to my ear, and I found it a bit too much on my clean/chorusy (think 80s meets EJ clean) tone. So I swapped it out for the one of the others. Much happier now, but YMMV.

Yes. You will also want to set the 1/4" output to LINE. The switch is right next to the expression pedal.

Loved my JC120H, and used it in "stereo" with two cabs on either side of the band; big sound. But yes... the distortion was HORRIBLE. I used (and still have stashed away) an old Chandler Tube Driver rack that handled all of my distortion needs. Sold the rig when I bought my AxSys 212/Ax212. I still have the Ax212 in my garage.

If you are going to do the "4 cable method" .. you can find lots of YT videos on that... here is the one from Line 6: The key to this is choosing where the "FX loop" effect will go on the Pod's signal chain. If you are just going to bypass the amp's input and run directly in to the Effect Return (aka Power Amp in), then just run the 1/4" out of the Pod into the FX return on the amp. No "FX loop" needs to used in the effects chain on the Pod. This is how I run my HD500x into my Vetta II combo.

I don't have access to the original PDF press release, but I believe that there will be a few new cabs to go with the amps.. the JC in particular. No new effects.. it seems (as many have pointed out) that there was a typo in the PR. I know that the JC was a major request from a great number of people here on the forums, so it's no surprise that it's in there. Why no modern amps... well.. many of them are based on "vintage" designs... so you can get... say 80% there with what's already in the Pod. The global EQ is something that I used quite a bit with my old Vetta II. It's a nice way to quickly cut the bass if the room/club/thing you are in is a bit boomy, or add a bit more high end if you need it too. Since I use my HD500x in the FX loop of my Vetta II combo (bypassing the Vetta's input), I still have a "global" EQ available. Not to mention balanced outs to feed the house mix that are at a fixed level. Pretty dang awesome.

Well.. what kind of budget do you have? That's going to determine what you can get. The M-Audio AV-40 are just OK. I have a friend who has them for his media center/TV. Just OK. I have the M-Audio BX8a monitors (the big brother to the BX5s) and have been really happy with them. Expect to pay about $500 for the pair. The JBL LSR 305 ($150/ea) and the LSR308 ($250/ea) are - from everything I've read - VERY good. They have a new tweeter design that is good out to 24kHz and it a trickle down from their M2 master reference monitors. The PreSonus Eris series looks promising (about the same price-point at the JBLs) but I haven't heard them yet to know.

The usual suspect is having Input 1 and Input 2 set to the same. This can overload the input, so most people set Input 1 to Guitar, and Input 2 to Aux or Vairax to eliminate the issue. Have you also tried changing the Input Pad (by the Volume pedal) to see if that has an affect on your tone?

I ended up using the Tube Comp at the end of of my chain as a boost on a FS. Threshold set to 100%, and Level set to 20%. It gives me a nice bump for solos, but has (to my ears) no effect on the tone. Similar to the EQ method others are using. YMMV.

Found this in the HD500 threads.... the 4-cable method is exactly what you are after: http://line6.com/support/topic/1682-4cm-using-hd500-and-blackstar-stage-60/ I don't use this setup myself, so this might not be 100% correct but.... One of the keys to making this work is where you put the FX loop block. The HD500 FX Loop block is what SENDS the signal to the input of your amp, and then RETURNS the signal from your amps out back to the HD500. Have a look at the great diagram in the thread. If you wanted to use the HD500 amps, then you would not use or bypass (depending on the patch) the FX loop block so that your guitar isn't sent to the input of your Rockerverb 50. It would go into the HD500, thru the amp model(s) and effects of your choice, then to the HD500 OUTPUT and back into the RETURN on your Amp This is also a great resource for this method: Line 6 POD HD500X - 4 Cable Method with Orange Rockerverb 50 MkII
