  1. I agree on MainStage. But, dang! $149 for GigPerformer?! Still .... it really looks really good, and it appears to be used widely in the pro touring segment. Nice.
  2. These bad units will remain in the pool, recirculate, and continue to cause pain for unsuspecting buyers (and bad reviews for the product) unless the serial numbers of the lemons are provided. Maybe that's not gonna happen, but I think its a true statement.
  3. Major things to tweak are the amp gain (distortion) and the frequencies used for high and low pass. Adjust those to fit the song, then go from there. Often I'll add delay or reverb with other DAW plug-ins, if needed. I usually have some Helix presets I gravitate to for rhythm, and some for lead.
  4. I'm not near my hardware, but.... The manual explains it, though it becomes obvious and much easier if you use HX Edit (which is the best thing to do).
  5. https://kushview.net/products/element/
  6. FaceBook = FakeNews Don't join .... they'll sell your private soul to the devil.
  7. Do you have a link to that part on the full compass site? I couldn't find it when I typed in the part number. If you have no other way to get it, I'd be glad to help a fellow Variax owner out by ordering it and re-shipping it to the UK from the US for just the actual item + shipping costs, or any customs fees, etc. Let me know if you get stuck....
  8. Now with patented DNA Clone Matching® so you can not only sound exactly like your favorite artist, you can also look exactly like them! (all kidding aside, you have totally nailed these artist duplicate tones...)
  9. I can't guarantee this is the correct switch, but this is from my Variax acoustic notes: Article on model selector http://active-guitar.com/guitar-diy/fixing-a-faulty-variax-model-selector/ Or fill out a ticket and see if you can get the part from Line 6. They may ask you to contact a repair center, maybe even send in your guitar.
  10. This is like a discussion about politics or religion, right? There's no right answer here, folks. To each his own. Find your happiness. I've found patches someone else creates and sells that are working great for me. Yeah, I tweak them, but that's the final 10% of the battle. If I want a great sounding, say, Lonestar patch for recording I can pay some guy who makes custom IRs, has golden ears, knows how to milk the best out of the Helix, and might spend days (not hours) perfecting an awesome patch. Or .... I could try create my own awesome patch from scratch (I'm pretty well-versed in the Helix), but I've got limited time and things I'd rather be doing. I could probably learn to tune my car's engine, too, but I prefer to pay a good mechanic. And I'd also rather buy my salmon at the market than go fishing.
  11. But you should go ahead and buy the iPod 3.
  12. If you get stuck in a situation where you need a host for a USB controller, but don't want to use a computer, get one of these: http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/usb-midi-converter. They work great and are affordable.
  13. Oh man, I thought this thread went away...
  14. Also good to know the HX can send/receive MIDI through either the USB port its MIDI connectors, so you can use old-school or new-school controllers with it. Now that's flexible.
  15. Bob 2.0 - I checked my setup, and Workbench is not giving me any errors when I rename or save patches or folders. Everything seems to be working normally. Perhaps you have a Java problem? Here's what's running on my system (10.12.6 Sierra): Workbench v1.73 Variax Acoustic v3.25 I don’t find a Java JRE installed, but do have a JRK installed (installed using Java for macOS 2017-001, which is the legacy Java SE 6 runtime). If I check via Terminal I see: java version "1.6.0_65" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-468) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-468, mixed mode) Hope this helps!
  16. If its working out for you, by all means go for it! I think the specs look good on paper for using it as a recording interface.
  17. Convenience. Economics. One is a guitar stomp modeler and one is a recording interface. ;-) I (and I imagine many Helix users) already have a separate audio interface connected to their computer/DAW. Those are easier to use for mic/instrument/monitor level setting and patching (except for doing the Helix reamp stuff). Audio quality? That's debatable — I haven't seen any shootouts or done any spec comparisons.
  18. Yes, the send/return loop counts as an effect slot. It includes useful controls such as send level, return level, and mix (dry and wet). Yes, you can run two independent paths with a total of 9 mono effects between them. Use the Split Y at the front, and Mix at the end of your "chains" and pan inputs and outputs hard L and R (those don't reduce your effect count). I use a several presets that use two mono paths and each has its own send/return loop. It all works without a hitch ... you just have to get the pan, level, and mix settings right.
  19. I totally agree. I almost always start with one of Fremen's presets, and tweak as needed for a particular song. His stuff keep getting better, along with his custom IRs. I love the 2.30/2.50 update pack, and the new (free) Brit Plexi is outstanding. (I don't do metal so didn't buy any of the new amp packs, but have no doubt they knock it out of the park).
  20. Thanks @fremen. The Plexi pack freebie sounds fantastic!! The pricing is very reasonable for the amp packs .... can't wait for the rock and blues vintage packs.
  21. When I'm around my equipment I'll check my setup, which works. You may want to open a support ticket. Line 6 should fix this issue —there are a significant number of customers still using their legacy Variax guitars. It shouldn't be this hard.
  22. Yes! Those touch-sensitive switches drove me up a wall. Turn 'em off! Go to Global Settings > Switches and set Stomp Select to "Press." Use HX Edit to do your major editing (its a lot faster and easier. Then, learn to use some basic front-panel editing for any at-the-gig fine-tuning of presets.
  23. I love the tuner in the HX FX. But maybe that's just me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "Tuners are like relationships — you have to find one you're compatible with, and then never take it for granted. Hot rats!" ~ Frank Zappa
