  1. 4-cable method would use both but the patch I described would work either way. 4-cable method should be: Helix Send 1 to the normal input on the front of your amp Your amp's fx send to Helix Return 1 Helix 1/4" out to your amp's fx return Your guitar to Helix guitar in
  2. I had to go into the sound settings for my computer and choose Helix as my playback device.

  4. Very easy to accomplish. Set up all the 4-cable connections. Start with an empty patch on Helix. Insert an FX Loop. Touch a footswitch for 2 seconds to assign the FX Loop to it and press OK. To the right of your effects loop insert a clean amp. Press BYPASS to turn the clean amp off. Now hold the same footswitch for 2 seconds and press OK. Now the same footswitch controls the FX Loop and the clean amp. Now that one footswitch does 2 things. It either turns the FX Loop on and the clean amp off, giving you your dirty tone, or it turns the FX Loop off and the clean amp on, sending your clean tone straight to the power amp section of your amplifier. There's your clean tone. Insert any other effects you want in your patch and save it. You should be good to go.
  5. It will be interesting to see if Line 6 has anything up their sleeve for NAAM.
  6. I recently sold mine for $400 (a year and a half old and only used in my house). It did have the fully loaded HD bundle and Glenn DeLaune's patches on it though. You should have no problem getting $250 out of one.
  7. You should put that one up on Ideascale.
  8. Yeah, Vetta is definitely not FRFR but it does sound good.
  9. Tonight I used Digital Igloo's path switching advice to create an A/B/C setup with a Randall 1/2 stack, an Alto TS110A and a DT25. I used 1/4" into the fx return for the Randall, XLR for the PA and L6 Link for the DT. I was just playing around and wanted to compare the three. I tried all of his suggestions and settled on using the Split > A/B option. By the way, the DT25 won easily, clean and with distortion. The reason there are so many cords is because I was also playing around with 4-cable method into the Randall, an effects loop to try out a couple of pedals and MIDI from my computer to the DT using DT Edit. Setting up different routing options with Helix is some serious fun. .
  10. I'm not sure this is 100% accurate as Line 6 hasn't divulged much detailed info on the inner workings of the DT, but here is what another person posted in a thread. Hope it helps.
  11. Thanks for all the replies. The Whammy 4V is now up for sale.
  12. Awesome man, cool how that worked out! I would have thought that enclosing the cab would make it really woofy, like when I have mine sitting too close to a wall.
  13. Yep, to quote Digital Igloo from the TGP mega-thread:
  14. Recently I walked into the deal of a lifetime where I got the chance to buy a persons entire collection of guitar and bass equipment for an unbelievably low price. Nothing super high-dollar but worth about 4x what he asked. I've been going through and checking out all of the stuff to decide what to keep and what to sell. One of the items is a mint condition Digitech Whammy 4V. I've sort of always wanted one but I know that the Helix Pitch Wham effect is based on one of the Digitech Whammy models. I spent some time tonight directly comparing the model to the real thing and Helix is spot on for the features that I understand. Pitch shifting is new to me so I don't have a firm grasp of it yet. My first question is can Helix do everything the pedal does (the Whammy, Harmony and Detune functions)? Is there any reason to keep the Digitech given what Helix can do?
  15. Digitech Whammy 4V (not sure which exact model Line 6 has): http://rdn.harmanpro.com/product_documents/documents/26_1287001884/Whammy_186363B_original.pdf
  16. The patch sounds great to me, especially with my '91 U.S. Fender Strat. I can tell a lot of thought went into it. And Amsdenj, that's a seriously thorough and well written analysis.
  17. The stock speakers were Celestions but your post gave me another idea. If so many people swapped them out, I didn't, they should be available on eBay and Craigslist sometimes.
  18. I'd look for a used Vetta II Extension Cab. It sounds like exactly what you're after.
  19. Cool, I'm getting ready to give this a shot. I'll post back with my results. Awesome!! I've been anxiously waiting for you to get your Helix. Now I'll be standing by to see what crazy routing schemes you dream up, especially with DT amp integration.
  20. Thanks Peter. Sounds great. I was hoping we'd start seeing Helix stuff from you as you're the one who helped me get great sound out of my HD500X.
  21. Thanks Radatats! That's going in my OneNote file of useful Helix tips.
  22. Put in your first amp and assign it to a footswitch. Put in your second amp and assign it to the same footswitch. Select one of the amps and press BYPASS to turn it off. Now one amp will be on and the other off. The footswitch will now effectively toggle between the two amps.
  23. Yeah, that Glenn DeLaune tutorial is awesome. I followed alonglast night and created it on my Helix. It sounds amazing plus I learned a few new tricks. I think Line 6's slogan for Helix should be something like "if you can imagine it, Helix can do it".
  24. I love it when people recondition vintage gear and put it back in service. I recently got an incredible deal from a friend who used to play in a band. He sold me a bunch of gear for $500. A couple bass guitars, and ESP guitar, a bass amp and cab, a Randall 1/2 stack, a POD XT Live and some pedals. I'm proficient at setting up guitars so that's no problem but now I'm going to start working on some of the other gear starting with the Randall cabinet. Should be a fun adventure.
  25. Another thing that I do sometimes when trying to match a certain artist's tone is to research their gear. I'll google them, look for interviews and check out some of the 'rig rundowns' on Premiere Guitar's website.
