A good power amp for Helix to drive guitar cabinets
spikey replied to richrdhighsmith's topic in Helix
I love my Fryette Power Station 2 with Helix. I dunno how loud you need it, but when cranked it sounds loud to me, and the tones are tubey, organic and sweet. With 2 of them? More than enough for stage volumes and if the drummer is louder than this fire him and get another one that knows dynamics. ;)- 8 replies

Exactly. That's why I say that even though headphones are a needed piece of studio gear, don't tweak patches in Helix with them, and then go on stage and expect your sounds to be the same or even close... This is NOT a Helix problem. It's a user problem.

Helix - How does the Audio Interface compare to dedicated interfaces?
spikey replied to robhicks666's topic in Helix
I use another (UAD Apollo Quad) audio interface because of the built high quality plugins you can purchase taking some of the load off the Mac, and because I choose to. But it is nice that I have a backup in Helix if I ever needed one. -
Excellent Tutorial THANKS! Hope you get to feeling better too.

Sorry I missed this- Is Native a 64 bit Vst and AU plugin?

The jolt wouldn't be there when engaged if the frequency/pitch of the wah when it engages (at a certain percentage" of toe down) could be set, and if it is at the same pitch (freq adjustment) as your guitar tone is at. Also if the curve of the pedal's reaction (from heel down to toe down) is "adjustable" (from a straight line too almost an S curve) , as that helps 10 fold on this too and sounds as if the wah magically came from nowhere and all of a sudden it's just there, as it should be! Of course the Axe FX editor is the only one that allows this kind of multi adjustment so far. One can only hope that some of the dev's programming Helix has seen this wah setup inside the Fractal editor in action, and knows just how ahead of time and wonderful it really is (and worth the time and trouble of adding it). That said, here is something I came up abt 10 months ago, settings wise that "almost does the same with the mentioned above limitations. You do lose a bit of the lows when at "Heel down", but it acts kinda the same way in that it shuts off the wah at heel down, and re-engages when you rock toward toe-down. I'm using a Mission SP1-L6 Controller, and so YMMV... , , , , , , ,

I wouldn't keep my interface on 24/7. I don't understand why you would need this. With my UAD Apollo quad I don't have to leave it on as it boots up anytime with my Mac with no issues.

Thanks for the effort MusicLaw. I'm assuming that you don't own all of these real world amps, and you are just making a logical assumption? Why would a return block add ANY noise to the signal path before any amp added, if there was nothing sent to that Aux's send input? If the noise is coming from a maxed out return block that's creating/generating a higher noise floor, is that what you meant by the responses being normal in real world settings, and is that the norm for a return block to act with no input? Just trying to understand where the noise is coming from exactly.

I Agree- you want that controller, and for snapshots you need that controller...

Maybe if Line 6 did what you suggest duncann, then we wouldn't have to "find" it would we. Cause they would just be there. Look I have both units so I want the best for both. So you can chide the Helix competition all you like but the fact is Kemper has more delays "per-say" than Helix has. Here's what is stated about that... "The Kemper approach to delay effects is quite different from what musicians are accustomed with: There is no dedicated Reverse Delay, Tape Delay or Ducking Delay. Kemper decided that it simply makes no sense splitting crucial tone design features into separate delay types. Instead, Kemper have equipped every single delay type with a range of tone shaping parameters – and routing of course: Why not have a Dual Reverse Delay? Or a Serial Delay with analog tape character? Or a Melody Delay with ducking? All of these are possible with the new delays in the Profiler, from OS 5.0 and up." For example Helix has a total of "16" delays available. I checked this in the editor. Let me state that again, Only 16 delays are available in Helix no matter how you adjust them, slice them or dice them, and since we are not calling a preset a preset unless it's done by Line 6 standards. Here's the list of the "new TYPES" of delays added in Kemper's last patch. Crystal Delay Loop Pitch Delay Frequency Shifter Delay Dual Chromatic Delay Dual Harmonic Delay Dual Loop Pitch Delay Melody Chromatic Delay Melody Harmonic Delay Quad Chromatic Delay Quad Harmonic Delay Now they may be derived from 5 or 6 of the same basic delays, but just add 6 more that sound like these and you have as many as Helix does now, and THIS was just an update. So find all you like in Helix because that's the only way you will get more of them. My point is this..., why deride me for wanting more variety in Helix, on EVERYTHING? Thats what I want, and I use their competition as an example. And if that stings a bit so be it. I figured that's what we would all want? Am I wrong about that?
-
Well like more delays for instance. More reverbs. More F... wait for it... X.... ;) More Variety... Kinda like what Kemper did that I linked above, would be nice I think.

1. I like the 11 rack better. 2. 11 rack is a bit fuller sounding but being very picky... 3. 11 rack much fuller and deeper. So numbers wise both verbs/units were set the same?
-
Well after writing that and chewing on it for a few days...., I think I've changed my mind on the hardware part... If I can't make a Helix or a Kemper do what I want then it's not my equipment that's the issue here... Maybe an acute bout of G.A.S. perhaps... ;)
-
Heck of a deal- If I didn't already have a rack and floor controller id jump...
-
Not that anything basic might be missing from Helix duncann. But more options (more FX options) are always usually better.
-
Welp that's not good. And then again it could be a feature! :P I'm assuming DI knows so he can ask the devs deal with it?
-
I'm not sure what you're sending to or returning from, but I was informed about one of these here, and they work great!
-
I read where (direct quote) "Native seamlessly integrates with your Helix rack or floor-based unit". Whats that mean exactly? Run both at the same time? Swap patches between Native and the editor? Can someone explain this integration between the two units better please? Thanks...
-
Yea I agree. I brought it up on another thread how the KPA just got a "MotherLode" full of new wonderful sounding delays and hope that Helix receives the same love at some point.

You can Tune a piano but you cant TUNA FISH!!!!! TUNA TUNA TUNA!!! LOL

I need two more. A DSL 100 and a H&K Grandmeister deluxe 40. With them and Helix there should not be anything I can't do hardware wise. Finger wise Im still needing a bit O work lol :P
-
Yea Ive usually gone back to the stock cabs. Not only because they are easy to refind after an update ;) , but they sound good too!
-
And if you like your Helix, you can keep your Helix... ;)

For Bass? Best FRFR setup is a DI box (Or Helix ) Out into the FoH.
