  1. On Mavericks - be sure you have changed your OSX GateKeeper to "Lower Security Settings"." http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14370 Agreed! I use OSX 10.8 for my Macs - I have one Mac running OSX 10.9 Mavericks as a "test bed" -and mostly to run latest FinalCut X for video editing. But for Audio, there are countless reports of probelms for DAW/ Audio / Mainstage users - I suspect things will get worse for OSX Audio folks when Yosemite is released https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/search.jspa?peopleEnabled=true&userID=&containerType=&container=&spotlight=false&showOnlyAnswered=true&q=Mavericks%20
  2. Thanks I never saw this smaller version of the Workbench VDI-USB Interface before!
  3. Back to the Topic of this thread One thing I experience is when using Variax Mode, my JTV-69 (which is my 3rd after 3 RMA returns back in 2012) sounds much better than my 2010 1st release Restock JTV-59. On my JTV-59 the Variax Modeling output is 20% lower volume compared to my newer JTV-69 , which impacts the gain of everything down stream (Amp Distortion, Tone etc), and no amount of twiddling the Workbench HD Edit solves this. (Yes my String levels in Workbench HD are on "10" Also when I tried the HD 2.0 FW last year, the new Tele Full HB Model sounded like straight clean piezos - with HD 2.10 it finally sounds like a Johnny Lang Tele. I have the orignal Variax Schematic - but no access to the Tyler Variax schematic. I want to dive in and make a schematic of the mag PU circuit and its associated final output path - and compare the JTV-59 to the JTV-69 - they each sound very different here with measurable different voltage output levels - its not simply due to the different physical characteristics of the wood or scale length. It could be related to the very different style of piezo saddles on each though (hmm?) I suspect upon review of the schematic, there is a final output mix resistor network circuit on the internal electronics - perhaps the resistor values used there have changed over the years, between intial 2010 Variax release compared to what they now use today on their 2014 Variax DSP board BOM (bill of materials). This might explain why some dealers are selling older "NOS" Tyler Variaxs for $799 - its cheaper for Line6 to inform dealers to sell off their older inventory at a discount - rather than do RMAs for every guitar and have a Line 6 Technician swap the values on 3 internal surface mount resistors on the DSP board.
  4. How do the new JTV-69's address this issue compared to the older JTV-69?
  5. All Tyler Variax's include the Workbench VDI -USB adapter box - check the box - if its missing contact Line6 support - or contact your dealer for a replacement for this important missing hardware adapter
  6. If you are running OSX 10.9 Mavericks - there is a new Security Setting which must be made before many third party apps can function: Check the security settings in OSX 10.9 1. In "System Preferences," click "Security & Privacy." 2. Click the lock icon on the bottom left. When a dialog box requesting a password appears, enter the administrator's password to unlock. 3. On the General tab, change the "Allow apps downloaded from" setting from "Mac App Store and identified developers." to "Anywhere" 4. When you finish installing Line-6 Monkey and the new Workbench HD and new JTV Firmware, change the OSX Security setting back to " "Mac App Store and identified developers."
  7. Lets be clear the JTV Variax does NOT connect to a Win/Mac using a " USB Hub" - there is actually a specific Variax interface called a "Workbench VDI-USB adapter" and this special Variax VDI-USB interface is included with every Tyler Variax sold http://www.vettaville.nl/page.php?id=94
  8. This link has very good demos on the impact of different value caps have on tone for generic electric guitars http://www.seymourduncan.com/tonefiend/guitar/customize-your-caps/ This thread talks about different vol pot resistance and its impact on Tone http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/tech-talk/284694-talk-me-about-capacitors.html Knowing these values and tone strategy knowledge works with Line 6 Variax Workbench
  9. I use Fender Bullets Pure Nickel - they are more stable than conventional ball end strings , and slightly polished round wound = less fret buzz http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/fender-3150r-original-bullets-pure-nickel-wound-electric-guitar-strings--regular
  10. in my case - my JTV-69 Tremolo Setup Doc reflects what Line6 was using for production JTV-69's back in October 2011 I have not seen a recent JTV-69 Tremolo to compare it too. Also "that internal White Nylon Clip" attached inside under the tremolo Bar Screw is strictly for internal cable management, so the piezo saddle cables do not bind up or cause friction during whammy bar use. Else this happens More here: https://www.cx.com/0/io/hotlink/YPIXs8oREeOMhyICCluF4w/Tyler_Variax_JTV-69_Tremolo_Setup_111030.pdf http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=9371.0
  11. True http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=10129.msg73075#msg73075 https://www.cx.com/0/io/hotlink/YPIXs8oREeOMhyICCluF4w/Tyler_Variax_JTV-69_Tremolo_Setup_111030.pdf FWIW - I'm the creator of this JTV-69 Tremolo Doc - if you have any further questions - just ask On going JTV-69 Tremolo discussion are here too: http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?board=137.0
  12. This link has very good demos on the impact of different value caps have on tone for generic electric guitars http://www.seymourduncan.com/tonefiend/guitar/customize-your-caps/ Same strategy and knowledge works with Line 6 Variax Workbench
  13. I believe those of us who own a HD500X, but still prefer using the old Tyler Variax FW1.9 (or earlier) along with the old "non HD" Workbench app are out of luck. Forces me to keep my older HD500 that still runs the "non HD" Workbench app. - or use the clunky VDI -USB Hardware box and lots of cables But I hope I'm wrong!
  14. I suggest review the Library of user to user shared Tyler Variax patches here: http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?board=138.0

  16. This thread below has links for JTV-69 Tremolo Setup http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=9371.0 I since have added a SuperVee Maglok Tremolo stabilizer and a set of Tronical C1 Min-Etuners, and GK-3 PU
  17. I still have two old XPS-AB Boxes - they do power the Tyler Variax just the same as they powered the older Variax 700/600/500/300/Acoutic700/Variax/Bass. You will need a 1/4" TRS cable to connect to the guitar. +7VDC power for the Variax is delivered on the TRS "Ring" contact.
  18. There are many great sounding acoustic guitars in the 2005 Variax Acoustic 700 (Classical Nylon, Acoustic Sitar, etc) I would love to install in the Tyler Variax - but sadly i doubt this will ever occur. IMHO the old 2005 Variax Acoustic 700 guitar is a keeper!
  19. I assume you really mean this? Variax Maccaferi and ( and many other superior Variax Acoustic Models programmed by Dave Frueling (now at Strymon) are only in the Variax ACOUSTIC 300/700 http://de.line6.com/media/news/Variax%20Acoustic%20review.pdf http://spectrum.ieee.org/biomedical/devices/dream-jobs-2004/Fruehling http://damagecontrolusa.com/about/ I Love mine! I WISH i could get same tones on my Tyler Variax - but no cigar!
  20. I hate to break it to you - but the DT-50 is not very good as a clean , non distorting, wide frequency response amplification system for accurately reproducing acoustic guitar tones. Instead, the Line-6 L2M StageSource Powered PA Cabs that connect to the POD HD500 using L6 Link is the suggested approach gear wise for best sounding Acoustic Guitar Models with the JTV Variax / HD500 combo. http://line6.com/stagesource-l2m/ The DT50 Tube Amp with its Celestion Guitar speakers excels at Traditional Electric Guitar tone for Blues, Rock, Metal - and like a typical guitar amp, it can only reproduce 65-7kHz - not full range 20-20kHz as the Line6 L2M StageSource Powered PA Cab -thanks to the High Frequency Horn - missing in the DT-50 Tube Guitar Amp
  21. Correct - the Stock JTV-69 would use the input pad switch in the "normal" position. I find the stock JTV-69 Bridge PU to be in the Gibson Vintage P.A.F. PU tone and output territory, and NOT in the high output PU territory.
  22. Agreed! - i still have my 2004 Vetta Combo and Variax 500 that were "the dream rig" 10 years ago - both now abandoned. Its getting tough to find support for any gear older than 5 years. And remember The JTV will be 5 years old later this year.
  23. Then applying logic, I would suggest you have a poor Piezo Saddle and should seek a replacement
