  1. Hi experts, I use my Helix Stomp mainly at home as my audio interface. Meaning I have output 1/2 connected to my speakers and usb for recording/playback. My patches usually consist of an amp followed by a custom IR. Now I want to use the Helix also live. To do that I just want to bypass the IR block (last in chain) and route the signal to the send jack and into the return of my guitar amp (or any other powerapm e.g. SD Powerstage). Output 1/2 would go to FOH including the IR block. My issue is that that's not possible without using an additional block in the split path like that: I don't need the EQ in the second path but I'm not able to draw a line without a block. I could also use a Send Block before the IR but then again I would loose another block...... Any Ideas? Really questioning myself, have read the manual and watched a lot of vids. This actually should be easy... Thanks, Marco
  2. Oh boy. I'm in a mess. I have been trying to plug in my HELIX in three different FOHs of three different bands now ... and it ALWAYS sounded like perfect lollipop. I always had to kick out the Helix and go by classical tube amp in the end, I never succeeded to get a decent sound, no matter, if those sounds were of my own programming or factory presets or even Jason Sadites presets. And the PAs were very different from each other, there was one huge one from the late 70ies, one compact one from the 90ies and one very new Dynacord powermixer. The problems were very different, but could in no case be solved, no matter, what I tried. On one PA (70ies) the Helix sounded damp, no dynamics, like some badly adjusted, old transistor amp, and on the Dynacord it sounds dull with some strange frequencies and some clipping, although input gain is set very low and there is no clipping on my headphones or studio monitors at home. I have no FRFR yet and I won't buy one, unless I am convinced, that going with a HELIX into FOH really will get me a great sound and not laughter from my band mates. But I am far from being convinced after all my bad experiences. Friend of mine has a Kemper, just plugs in, sounds great from the start. Forget Fletcher Munson, it just works! Furthermore, on no PA did I get adequate pressure like with my tube amps. Only volume ... Did I buy the wrong gadget??? Or am I just too stupid to check out, how this connection can be performed satisfactorily? I found out some problems such as phantom power and how to avoid them, but no overall solutions. So I would be VERY thankful for some instuctions on how to dial in the perfect XLR output signal. I know that the problem IS HELIX based, because the keyboard sound as they should. A Kemper sounds as it should. But not the Helix. There are so many possibilities that maybe I just lack the correct combination of settings to get it done ... So, if anyone could help me with a list of settings (such as: Should the XLR output better be on MIC or LINE? I tried both, but there is obviously more to think about ...). How need the global settings be set? How to balance frequencies on the mixing console on one hand and on general EQ on the other hand? How should I set the large global volume wheel? I love the Helix, it is quite easy to use and gets me the results, I want, when doing recording (USB connection), but live ... as I said, it's a mess and a drag.
  3. I'm using an HX Stomp and have just ordered a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 to use with my 2x12 cab. I'd like to send a signal to FOH as well, but I'm not sure if this can be done - is anyone able to advise please? I was thinking of using the Send to take the signal to the Powerstage 170 and my cab, and then using the L/Mono to go direct to front of house. BUT... When I look at it in HX Edit, it seems like if I do this, I'll only be able to have the delay/reverb on one side (either FOH or the cab - but not both). Have I got this totally wrong, or is this just a compromise I'll have to live with?
  4. Hello, I was wonderwing if with the HX Stomp i can get 1 signal chain with effects/amp modeling/IR impulse to go to the FOH, and a second signal with just effects/amp modeling to my power amp and cab (so without IR impulse). Thanks in advance!! Greetz Wouter
  5. Hello!, Relatively new HX user here. I am going to try this setup for an ampless rig: HX FX with Vox Stomplab used in the loop for Amp sims. I think it will work pretty well, but I have a question. How would I use 1 or 2 IR's for a stereo output, to the FOH mixer? I want to run stereo through the PA and don't want to sum it to mono.
  6. So, I play in a Praise and Worship band each Wednesday and Sunday. I send directly to the board via mono XLR. Problem 1: I use a MiM Strat with stock pickups fairly often. The volume cuts in HALF when I use it. The "gain" also cuts out a ton. My clean sounds great, my dirty sounds clean and my big boisterous solo sounds like a hint of overdrive with some delay.... Never had this issue with my Mustang 4 and "real pedals." Problem 2: Guitar 2 has an Invader in the Bridge...which I love...But that thing is TOO HOT for the Helix, in my opinion. Cleans are dirty, and dirty is just raw. Yes, I roll back the volume, but never had to with my Mustang IV, OCD, MojoMojo Holy Grail and Flashback delay. Problem 3: Guitar 3 has active EMGs. Sounds beautiful on everything I do, but It is a baritone that I have tuned up to D standard. E standard is too tight and makes it feel like an acoustic.....Leads on an acoustic? Tuning inaccuracies? Damage to the guitar? nah..... and No I don't want to capo or play everything on this guitar "transposed" and stuff (I majored in music...it isn't hard. I know what you're thinking) So, since I'm a newbie at this thing (one week/performance), What can I do to help level the dynamics (volumes) of each guitar? Should I just put up the guitar with the Invader? I'm clueless about EQ'ing these things btw. I understand frequencies, but not how to get the sound I want. Does anyone have some awesome patches. I've already gotten the ones from the Worship Tutorials website. Anyone have any Super clean..no grit, then Chunky, then solo/lead tones? I plan on setting snapshot 4 as an ambient swell. Thanks so much for all you guys do! PS: I've tried the Pad, and a few other little things.
  7. Hello! So I am playing a show in a few weeks, and I am currently running my helix to a powered speaker for monitoring (with a flat EQ of course). I am thinking about trying to send a signal with the same tone/eq/etc to FOH just so they can crank it in their monitors more. Am I overthinking this, or can I simply run a 1/4" cable to my speaker via 1/4" OUT L output, and run another 1/4" to XLR to the FOH via the 1/4" OUT R output? I am trying it with my interface, and the exact same tone is coming through both outputs (which is what I am looking for). Thanks!
  8. Hello good people! I was considering getting the hd500x because it fits perfectly on my budget, but i couldn't find anywhere an answer to this question: Can you connect your pod to foh (with cab emulation) and to a poweramp and cab (without cab emulation) simultaneously? if not, that would be a deal breaker :/ I've downloaded the edit software and discovered that using a dual amp setup i could turn off the simulation on one, so theoretically if i pan them hard to the sides i could do what i want? Thanks in advance!
  9. My First post here and I'm sure that similar questions have been asked regarding dialing in tone for "FOH vs FRFR Cab", and when to consider Fletcher-Munson as a factor. Number 1 sound concern for me is that the best possible tone is going to the FOH mixer/PA so that the sound guy needs to do minimal EQing but just volume leveling and my guitar sounds warm and crunchy. I am loving my Helix (8 months) but I want to take experimenting and guess work out of tweaking my tones for club gigs performances. I have been building patches and EQing through my Atomic CLR or my Sony headphones and realize that the stage situation/volume will deliver to my ears something different from what I had originally built, perhaps the Fletcher-Munson phenomenon is at work here. (bass boomy or not, highs shrill or not, different rooms etc.) I can take into account this and adjust the EQ so my live stage sound is cool to my ears but it might be at the detriment of what i am sending to the FOH, (not really sure but maybe). I also want a god stage tone but am reluctant to put Fletcher-Munson 10-band EQ into each patch for fear what it will do to FOH signal, (or does FOH also need the Fletcher-Munson curve to guitar signals?). I don't have a PA available to tweak on, no time to tweak at sound check but I want a way to build tones/EQ at home that will sound good through FOH, as I'm less concerned with the stage sound because I may be going in-ear monitor for up-coming shows. 1) My 'Dream-world' Question, what headphones or EQ or monitor or 'tool' will represent live FOH sound delivery while I am making tones and rehearsing at home? 2) Question is for anyone who has live experience with Aomic CLR. I have been using the CLR wedge in "TILT" setting (not BL or FF). Which one of these settings (FF, TILT or BL) is closest to FRFR, or closest to how the FOH will deliver the guitar frequencies? Your comments and wisdom are appreciated, Cheers!
  10. I just purchased the asm-12 frfr to go with the helix. I am working towards making the jump to play live with the helix to frfr to FOH combo. I have always used modelers in the studio only, so I am nervous of this venture away from my traditional amp and pedalboard. I'd like to anticipate any issues ahead of time and be realistic. I play in an original hard rock band and we usually play out with 3-5 other bands on the bill and changeovers are quick. I don't always know what the FOH situation is so this makes me nervous since I've never sent anything other than a mic'ed cab from my rig to PA. Here are my thoughts on what I plan to do. Right now I'm planning on XLR out of helix to XLR input to Friedman then XLR out of the Friedman to FOH (Set to line output). I was initially concerned after reading about controlling my monitoring volume and it affecting FOH but there is a volume control on the Friedman. It's not very convenient in the back of the unit so if there is another way to independently control my volume without affecting FOH then please chime in. My other concerns are EQ. I will have my patches setup and EQ'ed to my liking only to have the house guy tell me it sounds terrible out front. Since I'm giving him an out from the frfr he's getting my EQ. Please educate me since this is new territory for me. If there is another preferred setup then I'm all for suggestions.
  11. My Helix is on the way!!! :) Does the helix "know" automatically what type of output it is plugged int to? I have a DT 25 that I practice with but when I play at church I plug directly into the mixer using xlr. Will the Helix automatically adjust the sounds based on what output I'm using? If not I'll need to duplicate every patch, 1 version for amped and 1 version for mixer.
  12. Hi there, this is what I ideally want at a live gig with my 8 piece band: My guitar goes into the Helix. Connect Helix with Line 6 Link cable to L2T (used as my floor monitor). Connect Helix with two XLR's to FOH-PA. Feed the stage-mix of the rest of the band into my L2T. When I use the volume knob on the Helix, I just want to change the volume of my guitar on the L2T and let the FOH-sound (the 2 XLR-out's) to be unchanged (and let the PA-guy handle that) And I want to be able to change the volume of the mix of the rest of the band on the L2T (less dependant on the stage mix guy). I know the first 4 bullets are possible. What about bullets 5 and 6? Thanks!
  13. Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has looked into the optimum way to feed the helix into FOH sound system. Should I send two channels or one? XLR vs 1/4. Pan left/right completely/partially? I'd be interested to hear thoughts and concerns!
  14. Hi All! This is my first post to the forums so I thought I'd share my main HD 500 patch. I use this patch for recording and live direct to front of house and it covers pretty much everything I need really well. I really love this tone! Thanks L6! :-) Here's a screen shot of my patch setting: *Ok I checked it out and uploaded this to Customtone: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/219961/
