HD series stuff can definitely do a wide range of metal tones. It will thrash, chug, djent, and thall if you ask it to.

THE PITCH GLIDE EFFECT DOES NOT SUPPORT POLYPHONY. That's not in caps to sound angry, its in caps because people keep ignoring and there are dozens of these threads online. People who get it to work are either super, duper clean players and you don't notice they're only playing one note a time, they're getting lucky, they're playing octaves a lot, or they have something else in the chain to obscure the artifacts.

I wish anyone would actually stock the StageSource stuff where it could be demo'ed.

I meant high pass, as in the the frequencies above the selected frequency goes through, I just typed the wrong thing. Thanks.

Point taken. I personally don't have any EQ's in my chain as I prefer to have as much frequency to the original tracks to cut and boost as a mix will require later on.

Just like any other effect, the rules for use are up to your ears. The only rule I try to follow is to not put a compressor AFTER a distortion or amp model in a live patch...feedback city. chaining a compressor->overdrive->dirty amp can have very good results if you use conservative settings, because it allows you use light compression, light distortion, and lighter amp gain to get a clear distortion sound that still allows for easy pinch harmonics and the benefits of higher gain (smoother legato, touch response) without the masking effects that running an amp model with the gain 3/4 of the way up can have.

How can I get the quality of Pod HD headphones in my recording?
gunpointmetal replied to sijan92's topic in POD HD
This is what I think is happening. My tracks ALWAYS play back quieter then the output of the POD direct. -
Just installed the models that I purchased during the sale because I had some shows and didn't wanna do all the update crap before that. For my $70, I definitely got my money's worth. The bass amps for recording, some of those vintage cleans/early break-up tones, and all the metalz are gonna make there way into patches somewhere. I really, really, really, really want to get the Helix once its been out a few months and the reliability is tested, but my HD500X sounds great and will remain as a backup and a quick set-up home recording rig.

I'm pretty sure, if memory serves, that the speaker model is definitely active in the other modes, as switching through cabs changes the sound quite a bit.

So, you're asking if the "Live Voiced" cabs are IR or not IR based. My guess would be the "Live Voiced" cabs from the other input methods are the EXACT same IRs as the "Studio/Direct" cabs, just without the room convolution and with a pre-set, but adjustable EQ curve to keep from the boomy, muddy mess most people get running a cab sim into a real cab. The idea, I think is to be able to model the speaker options somewhat, even with a real cab.

yeah, I can see that. MS also shot themselves in the crotch with the Windows 8 RT versions of the Surface by not making people aware that it was a mobile OS, not a full Windows machine. I think a lot of times people forget that you get specs comparable to a Macbook Air in your tablet when you get a Surface Pro. I hear a lot of people talking about it like they're paying $1200 for an iPad, when actually a Surface Pro literally craps in an iPad's eye as far as functionality goes. The Surface Pro is a fully functional PC in tablet form. I like the Metro screen, even on my non-touch computers.

Just out of curiosity, what was the issue with it? As far my personal experience goes, 8.1 is the best one since XP as far as system stability and ease-of-use.
-
isn't "windows 7 mode" just an advanced start menu and booting passed the Metro screen straight to desktop? I never really understood why everyone hated the metro screen so much when its easy enough to get everything running from the desktop as normal.

The touch stuff in 8.1 with a laptop is AWESOME for using a computer with live music. I'm pretty excited about 10, hoping for a little smoothing between app transitions and the new start menu looks pretty sweet. I only really notice the fingerprints when I power off the monitor, takes two seconds to wipe down, and not having to try and click/scroll with a mouse using a DAW live is so much easier, and it looks a lot cooler from the front, haha.
-
having your own in-ear set is great! if the band has their monitor mix when they walk in the door, they'll probably sound decent even if the FOH guy has tin ears, because you'll be tight and together.

Arguing the "morality" of using a company's return policy to save yourself $30 on a $100? Some people are really awesome at proving just how out of touch they really are. I feel bad for the people who bought it 31 days before the sale started, and if I were one of them, I'd probably send annoying emails till I got a refund for my 30%. I think $100 for the full bundle is kinda crazy to begin with.......but I stuck it out till they went on sale and will be installing them this weekend.

Global input settings: Set input 2 to microphone
gunpointmetal replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
Thats because of your drivers. Without the L6 driver you're getting latency between your input and your playback.....pretty much HAVE to run the Line 6 drivers or an ASIO equivalent (my computer doesn't even see my POD as an audio device when I'm using any driver besides the L6 one). -
That is appropriately metal as F&^K! haha. For live patches I use a hard gate out in front of everything set really tight to my clean input then a light noise gate right before the amp model in my rhythm patches. Lead patches are just a different front-end OD w/the hard gate off. The noise gate set high enough to "gate" during heavy rhythm stuff definitely has a noticeable tonal impact. For recording I use a single hard gate at the front of the chain and do any extra gating in the DAW. Lots of metal guys would probably stick ANOTHER hard gate right after the amp model to make it super robotic sounding.

I've found the input Z setting to give more variance to my "tone" where as the input settings only effect volume. I have them set to "SAME" now that I have passive pickups. I had them set separately when I was using active pickups because the "PAD" cut the signal more than I wanted, so the input setting gave me the input level adjustment I needed to keep from clipping the input. There's nothing wrong with looking at it scientifically, but essentially, all those graphs and numbers can only tell you how things are different, not whether or not you're going to like how it sounds.
-
Are you building your patches for that amp? Or are you plugging existing patches in and hoping it sounds the same. Every device has different components and a different signal path, so what works on amp A might not work on amp B even if they're both "clean" tube amps. Is a Marshall going to sound like a Fender? No. But you can still use a Fender pre-amp model into the effects return of a Marshall stack to get clean tones the Marshall couldn't get. There's a lot of power inside the HD500 that, when harnessed, can get you pretty solid tones out of just about any amplification device.
-
You built your patches too quiet. Or you can lower the level of the tracks in whatever app your playing them off of (iTunes, your DAW, whatever).

Massive feedback when plugging Pod HD Desktop into Amp
gunpointmetal replied to Dougal1709's topic in POD HD
I'm going to ask the obvious, but, are you using your home recording/headphones patches? If thats the case, try setting up a new one through the amp next time. My recording patches have various stages of compression, overdrive, maybe some extra gain, some EQ's messing with levels, ETC, so that if I try and get them to performance level, even through a PA, I start getting feedback. -
I ran a 4x12/guitar amp rig with POD for a loooong time and got what I felt were really good sounds. Been running a couple of inexpensive PA speakers (Harbinger V2115) and I like the direct tones better than with the cab, and my speakers aren't even that great. Plus, now if we play a place with good FOH and monitoring, all I need to bring is my POD and my guitars. The two 15 PA speakers on stage more than make-up for the standard guitar cab as far as volume and "push" go. I'll probably be upgrading my PA speakers soon and continuing on that path.

I don't trust anyone who "cranks the gain" or "puts the gain all the way" and claims to have gotten a good tone.
