  1. ok, technically, that has two paths But it is not what most people think of when they talk it or, well, at least, in my case, it is not what I think of.
  2. Not that it is a big deal, but... You can drag them OUT of the software in bulk. You can only bring them back in one at a time.
  3. the smart thing would be to either delete the extension or name the extension as something unrecognized like 'zzz' or 'h5eZ' Many of us have windows set to hide known extensions, which makes it a pain in the tuckus to change txt to h5e
  4. That may have worked for you, but it isn't the case for me. I update without keeping my patches. My patches are all saved individually, and I move them in and out all of the time. I am not in "one band", so keeping the same set in there all the time is not an option. So, one day I am installing rock patches, the next day I blank everything out and install country patches -- and so on. I do, however, have a couple setlists saved. For when I am home and just want to play anything that comes up instead of rehearsing for a specific cause. I have a my favorites and my generics loaded and ready to go, without needing install them individually.
  5. I was actually going to mention the setups, but I am not in a place for a full list. Where I am right now, I can only give you one: Tweed B-Man Brt 4x10 Tweed B-Man 67 Condenser And only two blocks. noise gate and classic distortion
  6. So far, I haven't tried. I have so many patches, and so much going on, that I substituted them - not re-worked.
  7. Does the Variax do acoustic guitars? It seems to me, that the Variax would make more sense for that type of modeling than the Pod. What you're asking, in the way you're asking for it - taking actual acoustic signals and completely replacing them with a different acoustic signal - that isn't model tech, that's more like synth tech. That's how keyboards play back guitar sounds. They aren't models, they are audio files(like an mp3).
  8. Actually, I would like to amend my original posts. My unit originally sounded better, and it still does. But, now that I have had it for awhile, and have used it in many more situations than when I originally posted... I have a couple of really nasty patches. Patches that weren't nasty beforehand. For the most part, there was a slight improvement on sound quality. I still can't figure out how to describe how it changed, but my ears know that overall it is better. Yet, there are a handful of patches that took a severe turn for the worse.
  9. HEADPHONES While, headphones aren't widely suggested for sound creation, they are an option when you want to hear stereo. In fact, they are often the best way to hear stereo, because room speakers allow sound to travel into both ears, while headphones keep left and right separate.
  10. If a sound guy can't make you sound good when going direct, you programmed the thing wrong. Putting a mic on an amp may help, but that only means that you allowed the amp's tone to change how you made patches. And there is nothing wrong with that. You just need to realize that you will always need to be mic'd, because your patches aren't made for direct.
  11. A good rule to follow is: Anything dealing with looks (your face, paint finish, etc), electricity, the elements (earth, fire, water, air), or your health... don't skimp. But an even better rule is: Anything worth buying, is worth buying right. When you are shopping on Amazon or those little shops that are popping up everywhere offering cheap stuff, even the name brand stuff can be faked, recalled, or a factory reject. So, there is no guarantee that you are getting the real thing. Think about it. There has to be a reason why everyone sells Product A for $100, but you can find it for $20, or a generic for version for $10. So, Mr. Tipton, how could it take you five minutes to cook your grits, when it takes the entire grit-eating world 20 minutes.
  12. One of the reasons they are hard to do exactly, is because of using bpm vs ms. But yes, octo reverb is a good start. I am not on my pc/pod right now, but I have a couple of these. Not exact, but close enough for you to get an idea. You can do some neat stuff with it too. Like add a panner, so that it goes right to left as it gets higher and higher. Or turn off the dry sound so that you only hear the harp-like glissandos.
  13. You can use as many pedals as you'd like. Or am I misunderstanding the question?
  14. The thing is... It isn't always about cheap gear and unqualified techs. When you are on playing on a big stage, with the best system... My monitors in my area put out the sound that I need. Little Jimmy, over on the home team side of the football field, has the sound in his monitors that he needs. But what happens when I dance around like I got ants in my pants, and I run into Little Jimmy's area so I can get a look at the rack on that girl? Or I run up onto the drum riser and do that little thing we do? See, now, all of a sudden, I can't hear myself in the mix because I am low on those monitors. Which is why IEM is nice. You can always take your personal sound with you anywhere on stage. Umm, but, yes, usually, in the 'bar scene' it is just more cost effiecient to skimp on monitors.
  15. Or try it direct, with EDIT. I know on the 500, it will convert compatible files. i can't say what it does for your model.
  16. There is way too much to learn/test for an instore test. And as mentioned, there is a learning curve. Personally, I had the unit for months before I even took it out of my house for a rehearsal. Test gigs, full gigs, and then gigs where I took ONLY my Pod happened long after that. And as far as 'the first ten' goes, you don't know who touched it before you. So, the first ten you played could have been something useless like a Variax or vocal setlist, or it could have been the weird creations of the previous users. Even amp modeling at a store can be dreadful. A Marshall will never sound like a Fender. So, what you test it out on will make a difference with how it sounds too.
  17. Yeah, I didn't want to bring that part up. ANY single coil, for that matter. And unless they are 'noiseless' they are going to have some fuzz, which will be exponentially noticable when distortion is applied.
  18. You're right, I will never change your mind. Only you can do that. I can only give you the information that helps.
  19. input 1: guitar input 2: variax first block of your fx chain - noise gate
  20. put the drummer behind a sound screen
  21. When I am not using stock pickups, I usually go 81/85. My feeling is this... 1. I use too many FX to tell you what pickups actually sounds like. 2. 81/85 are fairly sterile, so it allows me to play whatever style I need. As opposed to, let's say, having a death metal pickup in a guitar that needs to play smooth jazz. 3. Having the same pickups in every guitar helps me keep a baseline tone.
  22. First, as to the factory patches... I don't know if they were designed to be used. But I consider them good at demonstrating what can be done with the unit. Some of those weird 'tron up' type patches, I would never have thought to make something like that. I would never even imagine making a noise like that with a guitar (but I have access to keyboard stuff). So, it is nice to have stuff that shows the far reaching aspects. I mean, if it can do that, it can do just about anything. Sure, I may not have a use for it, but it is nice to know that I have those capabilities. Could you imagine buying a unit capable of all of what the Pod can do but it only showed plain ol' guitar sounds. How would you know what it can do! So, as to the question of it replicating tube sounds... I never bought into the idea of tube vs solid state. I go with my ears. My HD500 replaced everything that goes between my guitar and the PA. And I hadn't made any changes to that rig in over 20 years. So, while I may not know what 'tube' sound people want, it certainly gives me the sounds I want.
  24. Your Pod is like playing a CD through different stereos. It will always sound the same, but what you may hear will be slightly different based on the system that is playing it - and probably the guy running the system. I wouldn't even mess with GEQ. Especially since adjusting the GEQ for your monitors will adjust the GEQ for the house sound too. Let the sound man earn his keep. ****************** As someone who has some touring experience - It sounds like you aren't taking a full show with you, and are going to need to rely on different sound man/systems every night. That can brutal. Especially if your contract doesn't specify what sort of system they need to provide. Monitors are the one place that a lot of places skimp on (if they even exist). They may provide great house sound for the paying customers, but the monitor systems is like using an employee bathroom. Never use an employee bathroom at a place you like to eat, lol. So, the truth is, monitoring your own sound may be the hardest thing to maintain on any given day. It may take some getting used to. But ultimately, as long as you can hear yourself you have to stop worrying about what it sounds like to you on stage. It is a mental thing that we learn to do. So, you may want to consider taking a small amp, something small enough to hang on the mic stand, to make sure that in a worse case scenario, you can at least hear yourself.
  25. Be more descriptive with the problem. Otherwise, we will just assume that it is user error.
