  1. Personally I would start with an LA Studio and set the Mix at 50%. Or you can put the Delay in a parallel path and set mix to 100% (no dry) and the LA Studio after it at 100%. Original signal unaffected by any comp.

    SPDIF level

I know its been talk about, and I also find it very low. Its seems to be at instrument level. It really needs to be at line level. I get about a -24 db signal max. Is this true? the SPDIF was "tapped" at instrument level, figuring because the Helix seems to do all its work at Instrument level then boosted on the output.
  3. This thread scared me so I went and tested my mic input. At first, I had such a low signal; dynamic and condenser with power on. Then I found the Mic In Gain in the global next to phantom power, and voila! it works. I know you guys probably already know this, but any info related to the mic may help someone.
  4. I am using 2 ALTO TS110a's. They sound ok. For the cost, I believe they are the best (my opinion.) Many will say save your money and get something better, but I find they are great for vocal monitors etc. we never seem to have enough stage monitors, so they can be repurposed easily. They are technically not true FRFR. I A/B'd them to my Mackie studio monitors - with a sub, and had to eq a tone of mud out of the 200 to 450 Hz range (like -9db). I was finding that when I made tones on the TS's, they were so brittle in the FOH PA systems. The moral of the story is almost any monitor can do FRFR if you take the time and have a system to A/B and then EQ the S_&% out of them.
  5. When i get boominess i tend to do a low cut on the global eq, but when i want to cut some high end, i lean towards high cut on the cab/ir. --- this way it allows the post cab effects to "sparkle". try it. Cut the global at 6k, then reset it and cut the cab at 6k. Big difference. Or the perfect combo of both. :)
  6. Ok thanks, I was just wondering maybe some sort of Resitor/Cap filter circuit ahead of switch that is better to be on prior to applying power to allow caps to charge and get working.
  7. Submitted idea for multiple global eq's. I would like to see seperate global eq for 1/4 and xlr. I know I can set my patches to sound good on my monitors and send global eq'd signal to pa, but sometimes the stage/room affects the monitor tone as well. I would give up some preset memory to have Mutiple Global eq's with presets for each. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Seperate-global-eq-s-1-4-xlr/804057-23508
  8. Is it the same to turn on and off Helix with the power switch vs switching the outlet power on and off leaving the switch on?
  9. The third cab was there to A/B the difference between 2 cabs vs 1. It's now gone. The 2 won in this patch. I did that split u suggested to 2a and 2b. I lose being able to process the reverb and delay in separate paths. If 2a is left and 2b is right the delay and reverb only apply to their respective sides. I was experimenting with having the delay not going thru the reverb. More defined delay trail. I guess I need to learn if when a stereo signal with different tones left and right hits a stereo delay or reverb, do they stay left and right? Or does the effect smear them together? If smeared I would have to put the different sounding cabs at the end. Thanks for all your help. Still learning this thing after 3 months! :-)
  10. The pan solution in the output block us one way. Can you use 1/4" to your powered speaker? That way you can assign the master volume to only the 1/4's adjust your stage volume all day, while the house (PA) gets same level. All volume changes in the patch (lead boost, etc.) still work everywhere.
  11. That works too but I lose the reverb & delay processing i wanted. The mic pre's add a little "sweetness" to the sound. I saw the trick somewhere here on this forum. gain at 3.5, volume at 10, line. = unity. I adjust the gain volume relationship to change the character a bit. But in the midst of live or in the mix, its not enough to notice.
  12. If you want to use partial leslie, then run the leslie in a parallel path and the cab in the other. On the Merge set the levels of cab path vs leslie path.
  13. Found it. My mic preamp blocks in path 2 were collapsing the stereo path. DOH! My bad!! Thanks Phil for the quick response!!
  14. Is it normal to lose stereo when going from path 1 to 2? I know I can split the paths before the end of 1, pan them then direct 1A to 2A and 1B to 2B, but then i have split paths in 2. I like to process my reverb and delays in parallel paths so I am not "reverbing" my delays. If I split in 1, I get reverb on one side and delay on the other, not parallel. I like mono front of course going into an AMP. Then split into 2 paths for different cabs panned left and right at the merge. Then i go to path 2 to and apply any post effects (stereo of course). I then would like to split path 2 for delay on one and reverb on the other (both stereo paths). I try to put the delay and verb in 1 but not enough DSP for amp 2 cabs stereo verb and stereo delay etc... I lose any stereo effect that was in path 1 in this setup. The cabs I have panned remerge. The only way around this I found is putting a Stereo Send before end of 1 then a Stereo Return at the beginning of 2 and jump the send/returns with short cables.
  15. Details TLF! I'm still using my Digitech Drop in loop (works great), but if I could shed it...... What effects and settings are you using?
  16. I guess i wont be ordering the mission. :( too shallow for volume? I want to use on board pedal for wah because of the toe switch engagement.
  17. Interesting. Capdoogie, does the slight hiss (no phantom power) change with the ground lift?
  18. We'll see how the new pitch effects work when 1.06 gets final release .
  19. the helix sort of does it with the pitch whammy effect set both parameters to -1 to get 1/2 step down. I find it not very accurate when playing 2 or more strings in the higher notes. Some on here swear by it but i use my Drop pedal in loop.
  20. Good question. I believe I read somewhere on here a while back Helix is looking for a 10k pot. Not sure if linear or log taper. I hope we hear from an expert.
  21. But i dont have variax. Why not left 1/4 out to l2t?
  22. 5 - yes. Global settings. Ins/outs. Page 3. 6 - how do you get the signal from rest of band? Single feed? You on channel 1, band on 2.
  23. Most 8 inch near field monitors would work. Go to local store and test them out. The K8s are very loud PA speakers. They may not sound good at lower volumes. They will probably sound too bright with missing low end. Not near as good as a studio monitor. I use 2 much lower power ALTO TS110A'S and they dont sound very good quiet. Great when cranked. My "cheap" Mackie MR8's sound fantastic and lower volumes. All just educated guesses. I have not put a K8 next to a studio monitor and A/B'd them. This is all based on my ALTOs. Take the Helix down and give it a listen at a local store.
