do you have the volume pedal at max? maybe its being just "bumped" or its a little loose so taking over the volume. try setting the volume pedal to control globally instead of the default per patch and see if it stops.

I find the upper buttons can be hard to hit sometimes too. I built my past analog boards in a tiered fashion, I never liked the pedaltrain style. Unfortunately we cant change the helix. now I just program the switches that I need quickly in the front row.

could be you are monitoring the channel in your computer DAW. Because Helix acts as a sound card, your computer will send sounds back thru it to what ever speaker you have attached to helix. What is your setup?

Each path is stereo. So if you choose all stereo effects after the last Cab or last mono effect, then stereo is output. I always choose mono effects before any amp or cab because they are mono (take less DSP) and will collapse the signal. To test and make sure, place a ping pong delay ahead of your first stereo effect, you will quickly know if the signal maintains stereo. The Dual Cabs is also stereo, its one cab left and the other right. :)

Electricfactory, I personally don't use bundles to restore after an update. If line 6 does an update and adjusts the factory presets, the bundle backup will overwrite the new one line 6 just put on the Helix (I think). Personally, 1. I do a bundle for that rare time I need to reinstall all. Haven't used yet. 2. I export setlists. User 1, user 2, etc. I use these to restore my setlists after an update 3. I drag and drop each preset into a folder. These I use when I mess up a preset. I go into the folder I saved it and drag it into the Helix to "fix" restore what I just screwed up. If you have factory presets that you have modified, I suggest you save them in a user setlist location. Just a note, my windows 10 laptop does not automatically add the .hls or .hlb. I have to type them in. I was backing up and then couldn't find the backups.

I have a Moog ep. Same problem. Its most likely the pot value as you feared. I think i may just get the line 6 ep instead of trying to mess with it.

a few questions. 1. What does the % do? "Joystick" ovet to the volume block and see % at bottom of screen. 2. Where in the chain is the volume block? If early and using high gain, volume will jump up very quickly.

Some info if you haven't seen it yet. http://line6.com/support/topic/16178-helix-4cm-amp-switch-mesa-v25-and-mesa-mini-rect-not-working/?p=132241 ---may be a simple external solution. http://line6.com/support/topic/16444-4cm-with-ext-amp-control-issues-with-exp-pedal-position/?p=131997 --- internal done by line 6. I think. I hope these help.

My ts110a's are plenty loud. I can run 2 of them at 50% with the helix volume at 1 to 2 o'clock xlr set to line. My patches are volume leveled to about the level of the guitar with no effects on. That's enough to fill a 40ft by 40ft area, not running in a PA. My point is the 2 altos have tons of volume to spare. Our drummer is not very loud though. I like the idea of two speakers, 1. stereo if you choose. 2. I like to angle the speakers about 30 degrees away from each other. Really fills up the room. 4. If one fails....... Got two shipped for about $310 on eBay from ALTO. Probably dumping inventory due to new model. Edit: they are great monitors, side fill or just a good outdoor party speaker if you don't like them for the Helix. Not a big risk.

share the patch. We can see if our units behave the same.
-
I agree steve. The only problem is getting the expression pedal the same, if you hav any parameters associated with it.

More on pedal order, the "classic" sounds from the early Van Halen era and the like are overdrives, delays and reverbs before the maxed out Marshalls. No loops in those classic amps. And even as far as modulation before dirt. My point is what may be wrong by today's general guidelines was right back in the day. The great thing about he Helix and todays high-end modeling units, I can rearrange my "board" with the click of a footswitch in about 1/10th of a second. :D

Maybe a dumb question. You captured the entire amp/cab in the ir? Not just the speaker? How do you use it in helix? Do you thinks it's best to use ir in place of cab? Or entire pre amp cab combination? Based on posts, are you using the Mesa pre only into the ir? Sorry if I misunderstood the thread.

I think like you. I like precise instructions, but in defense of Line 6, the Helix is so versatile, there are too so many ways to configure, nearly impossible to print them all. Line 6 does include sample ways to route in the Templates patches, remember to back them up and save in a different patch so you don't lose the template (they are not protected). I come from the analog world so I used the same logic for pedal order etc. Coming to the Helix with some experience, helps tremendously. I think Line 6 expects that. Looking back, after a spending thousands of dollars and countless hours researching and experimenting in the pedal / amp world, I wish Helix was there from the beginning. I would have saved a ton of time and money. The different advice you get isn't wrong, just different and it works better for their situation. Check out the Helix page on Facebook. Awesome resource. Everyone there is willing to help and learn (we are all still learning) from the most complex to the simplest questions. https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/ Also, I think because the Helix is so new, even the Line 6 folks don't know all there is about the Helix and routing. I'm sure on occasion, they get the "wow, why didn't I think of that" moment. Sorry I didn't answer you questions here. Best to ask specific as you can and one thing at a time or the answers will be all over the place.

It's advertised as splitting input. Combining outputs may cause some issues inside of the headphone amp in helix, so be careful. In addition to what's already been said, you can go into mixer and collapse to mono, or into a DAW track on computer and collapse to mono.
-
great Info. Good to learn. A buffer cant be loaded like a passive pup. Ahhhhhh, output impeadance too low.
-
try to lower the input impedance in the helix global settings. may be a non permanent solution. I'm not sure cap to use. Crack the tone knob just off max? i personally am not a fan of hard wiring something that may be solved less invasively.

Ducked delay is the 2290. Not sure of others yet

Cool. When you get it setup, share the patch back. I get so caught up in tone chasing, sometimes its good to go back to a simple 3 in 1 setup and just

Here you go.... It's a patch I think does what you want. I just used the default parameters on each effect. I programed the FS to what you described, I think, but there is not FS6, that's the MODE button, so I assumed you were referencing 1-5 on the top and 6-10 on the bottom. In reality it's 1-6 on top and 7-12 on the bottom, 6 and 12 not assignable. I assigned the bypass to FS2, its called Route To. I saved it with all effects off (accept Reverb), and the Route bypassed direct to the amp. https://app.box.com/s/2dyjw6fsewxjp2p8jhcx6m7wirokgihx

Split before the 3 pedals and merge just after the split.
-
Create a parallel path and put the od pedels in it. Then at the split choose a/b. Assign a switch to go 100% A (clean) or 100% B (through drive pedals).

Just some latentcy thoughts. I can make a single patch and press 2 or three buttons to change tones. I know multiple changes can be done with a single press, but realistically it sometimes takes a few. I bet a patch change is faster then pressing 2 footswitches. And a small "musical" rest makes that first note of the solo that much better. But in defense of the "zero" latency players, I 100% support reducing latency and/or implementing a "scene" mode. I wonder if it can be implemented like the looper? Same reverb/delay block in same path location with same settings on both patches. Maybe?
