Bought a G10!!! Returned it after 3 hours of playing with it.
Joepeggio replied to DunedinDragon's topic in Helix
G50 here. No real difference with SD humbuckers and Fender American Standard custom 50s. But I can not say for any other types. Maybe some very "vintage" type lower output pups might be affected? -
to my ears i hear both like the above quote states
-
it may sound like a flying piezo! :) they should laser track a speaker for a "no mic" cab!??
-
I find it only works on single notes and power chords only near the nut on the fretboard. Its a monophonic effect. My Digitech Drop does a much better job. I hope they come up with a polyphonic pitch shift, though it may pull a lot of DSP.

I ALWAYS use my simple cheap ART Dual iso box. 90% of the time its impossible to plug into the same circuit if venue has permanent install PA.

Seems like if you own a studio and want a large palette of amps etc, the fractal is the ticket. I, like most players, come from a single amp (2 or 3 channels) and maybe 10 pedals and got a good variety of tones. The Helix has so much variability even with one amp that it at times becomes too much. the three major units out there are great at what they do and each have their own strengths. Line 6 did a great job with the Helix finding a market the other 2 did not cover. it seems in most markets there is room for three major players . I think helix became the third.

What expression pedals do you guys use with the Helix?
Joepeggio replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in Helix
Thanks Pete. Looks like the JR 25k is the one to get. I was worried about the short throw of the Mission pedals for volume control. -

Pete if you find out what pedal that vp Jr. Is I would like to know. How is the sweep? Looking to use as exp 2 volume and on board as wah. -
Sounds like some very high capacitance cables for the JCM tamed some of those spikey highs.

I like the ribbons, but in the mix with a full band the 414 is my first try. @honost . Just a guess, but we are used to the last thing in the traditional chain being the speaker cab. In Helix i tend to put post effects after cabs to maintain stereo effects. Maybe some of these effects produce upper harmonics without a speaker to tame them. ?
-
we will need more info to help. Your guitar? your Effects chain? what are you playing it through? what are you trying to achieve or comparing it to?
-
What kind of signal? Mono? stereo? I believe the aux in is a mono ts jack. If you are puttin in a trs (stereo signal) it may be shorting out one channel to ground.

I have 2 Alto TS110a's. I find them a little punchy in the low mids and upper bass. Early on I built patches without any global eq and found my tone thin and brittle when I went to the PA. My guess is because i had them on the floor standing upright and side by side. Placing them as a wedge and spaced a little helped. As mentioned in other threads, putting them on poles would be most accurate. I global eq'd them to better match my Mackie MR8'S on stands. Its a good 7db cut in the 200 to 400 range and some other tweeks as well. The 210 may be better, so my settings will probibly not work. I find no difference using xlr or 1/4. I use xlr to my Altos and 1/4 to house PA. This forces me to use a DI, if necessary, eliminating any phantom power issues and noisy ground loops.

I used to use amp for onstage monitor. I found setting the amp very clean and global eq it, I sent the full Helix signal into the front input. I sat and A/B'd it with PA to get the eq settings on the amp and the global eg. I got really close to FOH tone on the amp. Essentially, I created an FRFR with my amp. I used an Egnator Tweaker 40. The Hot Rod should also work. Edit: Global eq the 1/4 only to the Hot Rod and no global to xlr to FOH.

Using 8 snapshot mode. I like the fact I can press any one at anytime and know what I got. Now on the interesting side, Chad over on FB Helix group is "offering / showing" a 6 button midi pedal with scribble strips. It can do quite a bit. I can see using it a 6 snaps and then using 10 button stomp mode on the Helix. It does way more than I discribe here. Check it out https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/permalink/566869860163358/ He quick demos it on YouTube. Scroll to 26 minutes in the video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jmZX2jB7Hg8 It sure would cool if Line 6 made a similar pedal, matching the scribble strips, hint hint wink wink?

Seems to me you have the guitar correctly set up. Some folks use the AUX IN on the Helix. As for USB 7 level, I believe the main intent for line 6 was reamping. You are getting the actual instrument level. ie, on my electric I get around - 18 to -20 db on the level. playing it back reamping gives the helix the original guitar level. if you want to use it in a mix, then you do need to boost the level to line.

As normal the LED ring of the selected preset is lit when in preset mode. Now pressing the Bank Up or Bank Down, the presets flash, no problem, but the selected preset LED goes out. My scenario..... I use 8 Snapshot mode. When changing songs, I press the Bank Down, it takes me to 8 flashing presets. I would like to see the LED ring lit for the current preset I have selected. I place presets in song order, but sometimes, song order may change, therefore; I do not like the "bank up, down" to be "Preset up or down", but i would like to see where the last preset was, because most likely, one next to it will be the one i want. Saves time from reading all the strips. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Preset-LED-ring/835460-23508

whats also cool is i can plug in my ipad during rehearsal and record usb 1/2 and the dry usb 7. That way i can record with the full effect and feel of the tone then go back and reamp to remove some of the verb or delay etc, but it is sure nice to record with the wet tone

My away from home guess would be 3db. To note, when I pull down to create a parallel path, I never noticed a vol jump. I used to notice a volume drop if i did not merge the paths back together. that was many firmwares ago so maybe things have changed

Strange Volume Drop when using Les Paul vol controls
Joepeggio replied to WickedFinger's topic in Helix
Same for me. Use chrome browser. Works as expected.
