  1. Are you using mono or stereo delays?

    Midi in snaphots

Yeah, easy. The Instant Commands are per-snapshot, so just go into each snapshot and change them as necessary. And don't forget to save!
  3. I really doubt you could fry anything. I haven't tried it, but it looks like it would work. The H9 can detect Tip, Ring, or Tip+Ring (shorting to Sleeve), and the Helix can generate Tip or Ring short to Sleeve. You'd need a TRS cable, and you could only use 2 of the 3 switch function assignments on the H9. The only glitch I can see is if the Helix doesn't hold the short long enough for the H9 to react.
  4. And do you have a noise gate in the chain somewhere after the volume pedal?
  5. No, a standard DI box will not work. You need a load box - something designed to take all the power coming from an amp head and strip it down into a line level signal. Sweetwater search: https://www.sweetwater.com/c1117--Attenuators_and_Simulators
  6. I've already pigeonholed many of the regular posters into those categories, and give their posts the attention span they deserve. As for me, "lazy" is apt :-)
  7. I use an H9 with my Helix. Definitely a worthwhile piece of gear - particularly if you already own it. While the H9 can only do one thing at a time, it generally does that thing really well. Not saying you can't get good FX sounds from the Helix - you definitely can; most of my patches do not use the H9. The H9 gives you more really good options. And for some complex patches, being able to offload something to the H9 is really useful. I mostly use my H9 for ambient sounds. Usually they are complex patches bumping into the Helix's DSP limits. The H9 helps a lot with that. And, you can run the H9 in stereo. I've experimented with that and it sounds awesome. Haven't committed to going down that path yet, though. Most of the time, a lot of stereo separation is lost in a live setting, so I'm not convinced it is worth tying up the extra FX loop. If I did studio work, stereo would be a no-brainer.
  8. Yeah, and it's not like guitars wear out from normal use. Unless you're smashing guitars on stage, about the worst you can do to a guitar to affect its playability is wear down some frets a bit. The first guitar I bought, over 30 years ago, was the only guitar I played - almost daily - until about two years ago. It looks a bit worse for the wear (let's call it "naturally relic'd") but still plays as well as the day I bought it. I finally got some new guitars to play last year. Inexpensive Chinese-made but pretty high build quality. On par with my old Yamaha, but half the cost - not factoring in inflation. 30 years from now, all of them will still be solid guitars. Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I'll still be playing them. If not, maybe my grandkids or great grandkids. But the fact that someone will still be playing them isn't good news for the guitar-making industry. Doesn't mean rock is dead, tho
  9. If I was blind I'd assume the guitarist was playing a Tele, not a Strat. That was a pretty decent cover.
  10. I have a guitar with an 85/89 set. I found I like their sound far better when I drove them at 18V - they seemed to be much more open and present, got rid of some muddiness. That particular pickup combo should be a great metal sound, but I think it would be a bit too in-your-face for a great classic rock sound - no one has ever called a ceramic magnet "warm". To adjust my presets to accommodate, I'd really roll back the high and/or presence on the amp, maybe in conjunction with an EQ block to boost some of the mids. Also play around with mic and amp selection - start with a Greenback and a ribbon mic but have a fairly low high cut, maybe 3K or lower.
  11. Bo, the issue is that I am sending the Song Select (i.e., F3 xx) command from my PC to the Helix, but the Helix is not passing that through to the rest of the MIDI chain (as far as I can tell). I don't see an option on the Helix to send System Common messages, either. MMC messages, yes. I haven't got to the MMC commands yet, just planning on using a footswitch directly attached to the DR-3 for that. So, I guess the question is, should the Helix be passing through the Song Select messages I'm sending? And if so, why isn't it. (And if not, maybe I need to go to ideascale)
  12. Has anyone had any success in getting the Helix to pass through MIDI Song Select messages? Background - I'm trying to set up some automation in my rig, including getting my drum machine to select the correct song. It's a Boss DR-3, needs a MIDI Song Select (i.e, F3 xx) message to work properly. I've struck out in getting the Helix to pass that message through. Anyone have any insight on this? I've tried sending the initial messages to the Helix via both USB and MIDI, doesn't make a different in what gets passed through. Also - my Helix MIDI global settings are (tho I've tried just about every combination) - MIDI Thru - ON - MIDI Over USB - ON - MIDI PC Receive - Both - MIDI PC Send - Both
  13. OK, here's what you need to do: First, click on the split block in Path 2A And drag it down. This connects Path 2B with an input. Click on the input for Path 2B and set it to None. This is so you don't get the violin coming through on that path. And now you can set the output for Path 1A to Path 2B: And finally, I'd recommend bypassing (muting) the Gain block on Path 2B. Its only purpose is as a placeholder to open up path 2B, it doesn't need to do anything. If you need to balance the volume levels between the two inputs, use the merge block. A level / B level. Hope that works for you!
  14. Nope - split path 2 into A/B and bring path 2B back into 2A just before the looper. And set path 1(A) to output to 2B. Seriously, you will kick yourself when you see how simple it is. And I apologize for not making a patch to post yet. It is just too nice to go inside this evening. Sitting on the deck and enjoying an Old Fashioned. ðŸ¸ðŸ˜€
  15. You can't drag anything from path 1A/B to path 2 A/B. You can only drag a block within 1 or 2. You can go from A to B or vise versa, but you have to stay within 1 or 2. And looks like I should've read my last post more carefully. Everywhere I mentioned "2A" should have been "2B". I'll do up a patch and post a screen shot tomorrow.
  16. In the Helix Editor, just (left) clicking the preset and dragging to another slot will reorder. You can't insert a new blank preset, but you can drag one from the end of your setlist.
  17. Sorry, I missed a step. Click on the node that branches off and drag it down to path 2A. You should then see 2A starting at the left (input) side with "None" showing as the input source. At that point, go to the output of path 1A and 2A should show up as an option.
  18. That's relatively straightforward to accomplish. 1) place a gain block just in front of the looper block. 2) pull the gain block down to create path 2B 3) set path 1A to output to path 2B. This will effectively have the guitar signal bypass the violin processing, but be pulled back just before the looper.
  19. Yup, understand what you mean. No, you can't cue up a preset on the Helix without making it go into effect. When the DAW starts the next song on the list, what do you do for counting in? If the track has 1 or 2 bars lead in, have the DAW fire off the MIDI command to the Helix during the lead in. You'll have to trust your rig to work, but that should get the correct Helix preset loaded before you start playing.
  20. Can you post a screen shot of your preset?
  21. What is your firmware version and editor version? Make sure the firmware is 2.20 or 2.21, and the editor is 2.20.
  22. I have 80 ohm DT770s (came with a straight cable) and 250 ohm DT990s (coiled cable). I do most of my patch creation with the 770s as I can hear better nuance in the sound. Not sure how much of that is due to the closed back vs. the drivers. I use the 990s to tweak the EQ. The open back allows the room sound in, which means it sounds a bit more like playing live. I can see where a coiled cable works well if you are sitting at a mixing deck, but with my Helix on the floor, my ears are at least 5 or 6 feet away and the coiled cable pulls. I prefer the straight cable.
  23. I use 3 loops for an Eventide H9, an EHX Mel9 and and EHX POG2. I use the 4th loop as a loopback. I.e., straight cable from Out to In. That gives me some more routing flexibility in terms of the signal flow between paths. Note that I could probably accomplish the same thing by loading a null preset to the H9 or POG2 and using that FX loop.
  24. Should work with the Helix. When hooked up as an expression pedal it uses a 10K pot, perfect for Helix. Just need a custom cable.
  25. Yes, it is called the Autofilter, located in the Filter block category. Takes a bit of tweaking.
