  1. They didn't design it to work with multiple transmitters, so I don't think it is really an issue. It would have been cool for someone to utilize if it worked. Perhaps if you put transmitter A into the base, it gets assigned default frequency. Take TxA out and make sure it is "off". If you put TxB into the base and it does not see TxA, then it should assign the same "default" frequency. I'm never going to use it like that, so I am not really worried about it. I just use one transmitter and multiple guitars, just swap it out on the fly.
  2. You may also find that using an IR instead of the on board cab model will get you a better "feel" for clean picking. To me, they feel a bit more responsive in picking articulation and natural feeling when digging in for more meat.
  3. That's a great way to start: keep it simple and just add on a bit here and there. It's hard to make it sound bad, but if you add to much junk into your preset, it can get to be too much.
  4. I'm not a country picker, but I play a lot of clean (Strat/Tele). You really need to play around with the compressors. The Red Squeeze is the model for the MXR Dyna Comp, start with the default settings and squeeze/sustain from there. That one amplifies single coil noise though, so watch out for that. I've been putting the LA Studio Compressor at the front end of the signal chain on almost all my presets lately, but I turn the gain down to about 3.5 to that the volume isn't kicked up too much. It adds some pretty nice "transparent" sustain. Next try the Interstate Zed amp model (Dr Z Route 66) for some Brad Paisley type punch. It has a little grit to it. I've been using the Mesa MkiV Rhythm Channel 2 model a lot for clean to crunch. Gain about 2-3 for clean, up to 6-8 for crunch. I really like how it cleans up with the gain low. Just sit down with a basic preset with amp and separate cab model with a little room reverb in between. Then just go through the amp models and cab models until something sounds pretty close to what you are looking for.
  5. Perfect. Sometimes you just have to get a little creative.
  6. OOOOOOO.... nice little tease.
  7. Yeah, I guess I'll get a 4cm preset set up on my Blues Deluxe Reissue just in case I play somewhere I won't be going direct from the Helix. I'm curious to see how some of the preamp models sound through the power amp section of this amp. Looking forward to playing around with that!
  8. That's pretty interesting. Sounds like the ID amp "modeling" and Helix are quite a bit different like you mention. This makes me want to play around with 4CM a little more just for fun.
  9. If you are just taking the cabinet/IR out of your preset and running that into the front end of the Blackstar, you will definitely get harsh high end. You can demonstrate that by listening to the Helix through on board headphone jack and take out your cab/IR of your preset. Things get really harsh on the high end because the modeled impedance from the cab/IR is missing. Now you are running those extra harsh highs into the front end of the Blackstar to be amplified further. I've run my Helix into the front end of a few tube and solid state combos on clean just playing around, and I just leave my presets as is with the amp and cab/IR models still in there. Generally speaking, they sound pretty good without doing much to them.
  10. In the past I have had freezes when connected USB to my Mac using the editor. I found that unplugging the usb cable would "unfreeze" it. I haven't had that issue since. 2.11, but that doesn't mean that it was fixed in a firmware update. Could be coincidence.
  11. I think what is happening is that transmitter A gets assigned a frequency. You take A out of the base and put it into a guitar, it is transmitting on that frequency. You put transmitter B into the base, it sees the frequency that A is using, so it assigns a different frequency to B. So now the base and transmitter B are now on the same frequency, but A is on a different frequency. Even if you could get two transmitters on the same frequency, I am not sure how the base would handle two input signals at the same time.
  12. Roscoe5 definitely busted that cab myth.
  13. To take advantage of snapshots, you can hit the left two foot switches (bank up/down) at the same time to put it into snapshot mode.
  14. Roscoe5 is now the official "upgrade sounds different" myth buster on the Helix forum. Nice job!
  15. Guitar input Z doesn't seem to be a global parameter.
  16. I am definitely going to check out the Peterson Stobe app. I had not idea it existed. It has some spectral stuff on there too. Just what an OCD guy like me needs! I have found myself doing a quick pluck of the string then muting it quickly on the Helix tuner to give me the quickest results. I agree with the assessment from HO.
  17. I don't think Helix has a 5v supply on the USB port, but I am not for certain. You may want to put your question on the Helix forum about that.
  18. So far from the forum I am only noticing a Variax issue with snapshots, and potentially the volume drop issue possibly still existing. Positive feedback I am noticing is the improved tuner (may have been an earlier revision) and improved cab sound. Nice job Line 6!
  19. Line 6 put a few years into development in the Helix. Company-B does not have to put that work into a "new" product, they just have to copy (within reason) the functionality. Helix has been out for what now, 1 1/2 years? That is plenty of time to put something together that is essentially a copy of the workflow/layout of another product, with some tweaks.
  20. Yeah, that's why I live with it. They really aren't lying, they just do some extra "averaging" in their algorithms. I am just super OCD when it comes to tuning/intonation. It's a sickness really, but I am getting better.
  21. I was thinking about this recently. There have obviously been an improvement made, but still jumpy. This is the ONLY negative I have about the Helix, but still live with it. I have come close to connecting a TC Polytune to it. It's frustrating when I can let a note ring out through the Helix tuner and I watch it bounce around anywhere in between +/- 2 cents.
  22. Mesa MKiV Rhythm channel 2 on the edge of breakup with strat/tele. Snarly with a bite.
