  1. I wish i could answer that... Wait, no, I am thakful I can't answer that! I have always been a humbucker guy either in LP models or frankenstrats. I have never owned a real strat or tele, never played a Gretsch or Ricky. Never owned a banjo or a sitar or a Martin or any reso guitars. So for me at least, the models are what they are and I don't have to compare them to anything I have actually owned in the past. Each brings its own flavor to the mix and I can make adjustments till the cows come home and still not say it does or doesn't match anything in my previous experience. It may be the best way to look at it. Its a model of the real thing but its not the real thing. It just does what it does and I am happy to have so many options...
  2. try dragging the amp block after the mixer. Set input 1 to Variax, input 2 to Variax Mags. Now you have two separate channels feeding the amp. Place a volume pedal in the Variax channel set to zero and put it on a FS. With it off, the Variax goes through, turn the volume pedal on, the Variax is muted. Here is a blank template already made. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/850582/
  3. supposedly you should use high impedance headphones with the POD but I bought a pair of Shure SRH440's with low impedance and they sound great to me. I went with the closed backs just for the sound isolation. I don't want to hear string noise or other noise while playing through headphones at low volume. These cans get really loud with no breakup so I have to be careful with my ears. They also have detachable cord which is nice if you ever have to replace it and they fold up into a carry bag. Well over a year now and no issues. About $100 everywhere... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=shure+440
  4. Here is another option to use the Bogner as your dry and the L series as your wet. Set up your normal 4CM but connect the POD left (channel A) output to the Bogner FX return. Connect the POD right (channel B) output to your L series. Put the mixer last in your chain and place all your post effect in channel B, nothing in channel A. You could even use the L6 link if you set it up right to take the right side only. Same patch can work with POD amps, just turn off the FX loop. here is a patch you can start with: https://www.myflare.com/0/io/hotlink/VtToCLicEeSojiICCu4jKQ/Wet%20Dry%204CM.h5e
  5. Glad you made the jump. You will be pleased you did too. As noted above keep it simple in the beginning, concentrate on just amp, cab and mic setting until you really see what you like. Output modes are a big factor too. With your rig as described you will probably want to be in Stack Power Amp and they recommend using preamp models. But there is no wrong choice, just different tones to be had. Not sure you will benefit from the Gainiac. I guess its going in front of the POD? You need to watch that you don't overdrive the input signal accidentally. The Lexicons can be controlled by midi right from the POD so you can have your settings saved on a patch by patch basis. So much you can do with this rig...
  6. he was just Responding on Impulse... lol
  7. that Stetsbar looks brilliant! They have a pic of one installed on a pre JTV variax in the gallery too. That could definitely work on one of my other guitars and frankly, looks and sounds like it would be an improvement on my JTV69 trem...
  8. I never heard anyone say it was either a bad idea or stupid. Just not possible without using external gear.
  9. that's cool! I had never seen that before... pricing still seems high though...
  10. I think you are talking about the Bose systems which are still widely available. There are a couple of other line array style rigs available too. There is the RCF Evox series and the new Turbosound Inspire series (which looks very interesting to me)... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=bose+l1+compact http://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=turbosound+inspire http://www.rcf.it/professional-speaker-systems/evox
  11. your best bet is to take those awesome tones you found and play with them to get them to work for you. You can try changing the full amp models to pre models, turning cab and mic on/off, changing the output mode on your POD... you have to find what works for your rig. Just because someone else is using something through a similar rig doesn't mean it will sound good through your particular setup... use your ears and have fun with it! and remember to really get something useful for live work you will have to tweak it at stage volume...
  12. Paralysis by analysis... absolutely! As if there aren't enough things to tweak and obsess over in the POD now... There are already a ton of different "flavors" available in the POD just by swapping cabs and mics and using the DEP. I have spent a lot of time using the looper to run a phrase through multiple configurations and occasionally I find something really better but usually its just something a little different... Guarantee the guys running a real amp through a real cab don't spend hours constantly swapping cabs and mics... they just turn it up and play, something we all need to do instead of tweaking...
  13. SAG refers to a drop in voltage or current within a real amp that affects response. If you "increase" the knob above 50 you are "lowering" the SAG, very counter-intuitive. And yes, as you "lower" the SAG (increase the knob setting) it gets spongier, less attack and vice versa.
  14. That's true if you only consider using the computer but the Epsi Logidy linked above is completely useable with your HD500 live and has a pretty small footprint. I have heard mixed reviews about external IR's. Some guys tried them and swear by them, others said no big difference. Some guys say its the final thing that separates the POD from the Axe FX. It's definitely something on my radar for future use but for now I am pretty happy with what I get out of this rig with the current capabilities and look forward to the new model packs. Mainstage is just for Apple products right? I have looked into trying to do something similar with Windows but haven't quite gotten it together yet. Would be interested in a video showing how your integrated system works and what it sounds like!
  15. software cab sims use an impulse response which is a digital filter applied to the signal to replicate a cabinet. Other companies sell their own highly detailed IR's that some people feel do a better job than the Line 6 ones. But there is no way to load them in the POD. http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/The_Working_Guitarist_All_About_Impulse_Responses
  16. they have made it abundantly clear that its not possible to use third party IR's in the POD and they aren't working on it either. If you absolutely need them you can use the Two Notes Torpedo linked above for $995 or the Epsi Logidy C.00 for $199. Those are your only real options for live use. Studio of course is an easier story... http://www.logidy.com/?pid=1
  17. you need to check the link for the video its not working. As far as the tones, I will just say that with work you can get pretty much any tone you want with this gear. It may never be an exact match to something particular but it will be what you make it. Take the time to learn it when you get it and keep an open mind...
  18. What is the Orange OR-80? I've googled it and can't find it and there is no record of it on the Orange web site even in the discontinued models... https://www.orangeamps.com/support/downloads/ Nevermind... found some info on this page: http://www.orangefieldguide.com/ Of all the awesome Orange amps they picked this old chestnut... I will just have to be pleasantly surprised to try it... Thanks for all the responses by the way.
  19. you didn't say what sound card or driver you are using. When you record, what ASIO are you using? The Line 6 UX1 driver? Or the soundcard driver? You say the RAM checks good but how much do you have? You should not have to go to the biggest buffer size, just big enough to avoid stuttering. The more VST's you use the bigger the CPU load will be so you need lots of RAM and a good CPU. When you say generic ASIO, is it ASO4ALL? That is usually a safe driver if you are not actually using the UX1 hardware.
  20. I looked everywhere but other than the one you show on youtube there isn't anything on their site. Youtube has plenty of helpful vids though... https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=How+to+Use+the+hd500
  21. nice video explanation... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wItB-Sav2Zw#t=139
  22. Thanks bro, I missed that... Where is the app? I don't see it in Google Play...
  23. Well that's a good question as it seems they haven't released the frigging manual or the remote app to see what it does. WTF? Anyways, clearly the Variax connection capabilities are built in to the Firehawk FX. What we can't tell for certain is if all the functionality of the HD500 is carried over such as the ability to control the JTV models, tuning, etc on a patch to patch basis. Maybe an expert or factory rep could enlighten us and give some idea when the manual and remote app will be available? http://line6.com/firehawk-fx-multi-effects-pedal/studio-stage/
