It's going to be years before you start seeing it implemented in devices. The standard MIDI jack is going to remain the same, but the hardware needed to enable the two-communication is going to be different. So it certainly doesn't seem like it's going to be possible to implement it in existing MIDI devices (although existing MIDI devices will still work with MIDI 2.0 devices).

Helix Global EQ question
phil_m replied to vortex2011's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Well, you can always add EQ after you record the track. You can't remove it. I'd be inclined to leave the Global EQ off. As far as the compression, it kind of depends. If it's something that you're depending on for your performance and has a major impact on what you're hearing from the cab, I'd leave it on. -
I would leave everything set to instrument level except the Stomp's 1/4" outs. There's no reason to run the stuff in the loop at line level.

You can't have the tuner on as a preset in the Stomp, but couldn't you just create a preset in the ES-5 that recalls the tuner on the Stomp? I believe you can send up to 8 MIDI messages with a patch change on the ES-5, so you could just set up a preset on the ES-5 where it sends out CC#68, value 127 (the command to turn the tuner on on the Stomp).

I haven’t seen this thread until now, but in User IR Mode, the IRs stored in the PC are processed out of the XLR out, yes. I mean, that’s the point.

As far as the X3L, there was an actual Technical Bulletin dealing with the USB ports. I think it ended up having to do with the USB chip or something, but on some X3Ls, USB audio would stop working. Line 6 repaired those units for free for people who took them into service centers regardless of the warranty. There's nothing comparable to that sort of issue with the Helix. Because of the nature of USB and the fact that there's people using the Helix with all sorts of different systems, there's probably always going to be sporadic reports of people having issues of some sort or another. It seems they are usually resolved by troubleshooting. Anyway, that's a long answer to your question. The short answer is no. There aren't any systemic USB problems with the Helix.

As of 2.80, you can swap the Up/Down footswitches if you go to Global Settings>Footswitches>Knob 6, "Swap Up/Dn". That way FS1 will be Bank, Preset or Snapshot down and FS7 will be Bank, Preset or Snapshot up. It still doesn't change the way the presets are in the scribble strips in preset mode.

I bolded part of your response... There is a way to have Path 2 go just to L6 Link. Just set the Output block to Digital.
-
Any of the blocks can be moved anywhere in the chain, so, yeah, you can do what you want with the IR. As far as doubling blocks, you can have multiple instances of the same effect in any of the four wild card slots (as long as you're within the DSP limits). You can't have multiple instances of any of the fixed blocks, though.

I read through that a few times, and it's still not clear to me what you're asking for. I'm not sure what you want changed.

XLR/USB output without sending the signal to S/PDIF out
phil_m replied to stephane_dupont's topic in Helix
The Sends are actually balanced (they're impedance balanced TRS). So they function very much like regular balanced outs when connected to a balanced input. -
Yes. I believe the Line 6 model name will be "Legendary Drive".
-
You have to have it assigned to a footswitch in Stomp Mode in order to activate it.
-
In the Modulation>Legacy menu, both the Bias Tremolo and Opto Tremolo have a Vol Sens parameter that does exactly what you're talking about.
-
You could use the Control Switcher with the Stomp if you set it PC mode rather than CC mode. The Stomp can send PC messages when you change presets, so you could save an amp setting with each of your Stomp presets that way. It's more tedious than CC mode, for sure, but it's a possibility.
-
Yes, you can certainly use like that. You can use some of Stomp’s effects if you want, or you can use all external effects. It’s all up to you.
-
I believe that's basically the one thing that you'll be able with MIDI over USB out of the gate.

The .dmg is a Mac installer. The Windows installer for HX Edit is an .exe file.

There's no MIDI involved in any of the pitch shifting/harmonization or synth stuff on the Helix. The pitch shifters aren't doing any sort of pitch detection. They're just shifting the pitch by an interval. The harmony effects do have pitch detection. They're detecting the incoming pitch and output a harmonized one. There's no MIDI required for any of this. Same goes for the Boss/EHX effects as well. Boss did have monophonic pitch to MIDI conversion on the GT-100, but that's the only product of theirs that does that, I believe. Even the newer SY product don't do note ti MIDI.

This is what the gain reduction meters will do.
-
I'd be surprised if that happens. Nothing is impossible, per se, but from what I understand, trying to shoehorn that sort of functionality (especially the multi-track looper thing) into the Helix architecture would be quite difficult.
-
Yes, it's possible, and it's going to happen eventually.
