The reason they haven't implemented it is that in order to do it, it would mean that the short press things would have to be triggered on the footswitch release rather than the press. It's not completely a dealbreaker, as other manufacturers do this. But it might be something people would have to get used to. It would also mean having a momentary option for footswitches wouldn't be possible for switches with a long press function.
-
Not really. If you assign the Preset Down and Preset Up functions to FS4 and FS5 in the Global Settings menu, you can use CC52 and CC53 to emulate those switches and perform those functions. But that would only really be useful if you're not using the external footswitches for anything else.
-
I guess I hadn't really looked at how Fractal had implemented that before. It's different than what I thought. That's just a collection of defaults for different amp models. That's probably doable, although I'd expect Line 6 could come up with a much less clunky way to do it.
-
I think at the current development stage, adding global blocks would probably be quite difficult. The problem is the way Line 6 has the available DSP opened up in every preset. It doesn't allocate any DSP for any specific blocks, so if they went back and tried to shoehorn this concept into things after the fact, it would probably end up breaking a lot of users' presets.
-
I should add that personally, I don't think I'd want to ever load a snapshot and have the Wah block turned on. I'd always want to turn the wah on with the toe switch. So all of my snapshots would be saved with the Wah block off and the Volume block on, with the pedal set to EXP2 (assuming EXP2 is controlling the Volume block).
-
I can mess around with it later, but the whole reason they added the functionality of the EXP1/EXP2 state of the on-board being recalled with snapshots was for the very things you're talking about. As long as the bypass states and EXP states are lined up when the snapshots are saved, it should work fine.
-
How are you seeing snapshot alter things, exactly? The state of the on-board pedal (whether it's acting as EXP1 or EXP2) is recalled with snapshots, so maybe that's what's tripping you up? If you have it so the the bypass controller for both the Wah and Volume is set to the Toe Switch, then it should be pretty straightforward. If Volume is active and you click the toe switch, the Volume block will be bypassed and the Wah will be activated. If you switch snapshots in this state, things will go back to how the snapshot was saved (assuming you have Snapshot Bypass turned on for these blocks - turning it off could easily cause a misalignment between which EXP is active and which block is turned on). I also think keeping the Snapshot Edits parameter set to Discard is going to be easier. As far the EXP Position parameters, you probably want that set to Per Preset or Global, not Per Snapshot.
-
Were you using MIDI over USB? It can be quite easy to get a feedback loop when you start sending commands.
-
I believe that the Hotkeys commands works like other commands assigned to footswitches in the fact that you can have a different value assigned to the footswitch for each snapshot, and when you change snapshots, that value will be shot out if it's different than the snapshot you're coming from. Not saying for sure that's what's happening, but it may be worth looking into.

I believe you can just drag and drop the patch from the preset list in HX Edit into the preset list in Helix Native. I don't think you have to export it from HX Edit first.

It's unlikely that you're actually clipping the guitar in, but it's not impossible. Do you have the Input Pad turned on? The test to see if you're actually clipping the input is to go to a blank preset with no blocks in it and play through that. If you hear clipping in that scenario, that would mean you're clipping the input. If not, it means you're probably overloading something in your signal chain. The blocks in a preset don't really clip, but they can be pushed to the point where they overload. It's kind of modeled clipping.
-
Yep... Sure thing. That's probably the most common way it's used, really.

Once you assign a parameter to any controller, the value that it's set to when the snapshot is saved will be recalled with the snapshot. This is true for all controllers. The exceptions are the EXP1, 2 and 3 controllers. If you have the EXP# Position parameter set to Global or Per Preset, than the actual position of the pedal will dictate the value of the parameter. The challenge with this particular issue has to do with the very nature of MIDI itself. The MIDI controller isn't sending a steady stream of data. It only sends data when it changes position. So the Helix doesn't have a way to track a position of an external knob or pedal. It can only know the value of the CC when it receives it. The one workaround maybe to assign the Level parameter to EXP3 (if you're not actually using EXP3 for anything else) and assign the associated CC (CC#3) to the MIDI controller knob/fader you want to use. If you do that and set the EXP3 Position parameter to Global or Per Preset, the saved value may be overridden, but I'm not completely sure about that.

Are you sure you're not accidentally entering Snapshot Mode by hitting both Bank Up and Down switches at the same time?

The issue with the LT expression pedal actually didn't have anything to do with the pedal itself. It had to do with some defective housings that were incorrectly stamped by a couple of metal fabrication machines at the plant. Those pieces were thrown in with all the housings created by other machines, and this happens before the units are given a serial number. If you can imagine, they just have big bin of housing that they pick from as they're making the unit. Now it's been long enough that all of those housing should be out of the system, but there are still reports of broken pedals that come trickling in. It has definitely slowed down. Regardless of all of that, Line 6 has issued a no questions asked, lifetime replacement warranty for any LT that has this issue. So even you bought it secondhand and the standard warranty is expired, Line 6 will still give you a free replacement. So you shouldn't worry about it.

I think the actual tuner is accurate to +/- .01 cent, but the display is closer to +/- 0.1 cent. That's the thing with tuners. There are physical limitations that limit the accuracy beyond what the actual electronics can do. I don't believe there's a guitar string out there that will really maintain a pitch for any period of time within a few tenths of a cent.

Do you have the volume knob on the Stomp all the way up? With the input and output set to instrument level, that should give you unity gain through the Stomp.
-
Well, the Stomp has a master volume knob that's controls the overall output level. That's a global output level, I suppose.
-
There really shouldn't be a lot of additional noise and/or interference from a 16 ft run. I honestly don't think it's worth the trouble worrying about it.
-
There is no global output volume. You can set the inputs and outputs to be instrument or line level according to the setup you're using, but the HX Effects is designed to be a unity gain type of product, meaning that when you it insert into your signal chain, it shouldn't change the level of the signal when it's bypassed. Of course individual effects blocks can affect the gain. Also, if you create a split path where you have two output blocks, you can adjust the level of the various outputs there. This is more for the purpose of balancing the level than serving a master output level, though.

This bug was fixed in the 2.82 update. It’s specifically mentioned in the release notes.

Setting the returns to line level on the Helix sets their impedance to 10kOhm. On the Stomp, I’m pretty the input impedance isn’t affected by the instrument/line setting because you can still change that with the Input Z parameter. The input circuitry on the Guitar In is different than the returns. There’s like 123dB of dynamic range on the guitar ins compared to 114db on the returns.

It’s no longer listed in the latest manual: https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a4107835d2fac0e63b03/application/pdf/Powercab Manual - English .pdf That does make sense. Controlling the master output of an amp with an expression pedal isn’t something I’d want to do, personally. But I’d it works for you, that’s great!
