Typically, when I think of polyphonic shifting, I think of the dry signal being shifted. That's not what's happening here. This is just a reverb with some pitch shifting happening to the wet signal, not unlike the Octo, Particle, or other shimmer verbs. This is a little bit like the TimeLine's Ice delay setting, but not as detailed to my ear. The Axe FX Ultra didn't do polyphonic pitch shifting.
-
I don't think there's any true polyphonic shifting happening here, though. This is just like a reverb/delay effect. The Helix shimmer reverbs handle chords just fine (at least when the pitches are set to octaves). I just think the Helix should be able to come pretty darn close to this particular effect.
-
It doesn't sound like anything polyphonic even going on in that clip to me... It just sounds like an octave shimmer with some other delay pitch stuff happening. This effect sounds very much like the Particle Verb to me, perhaps with a reverse delay component. The Axe FX doesn't really do polyphonic pitch shifting all that well, either.

It was done in response to user requests, I believe. It's nice for two reasons. It gives you a moment to consider if you really want to save, plus it's gives you the option to save the preset in a different location, which wasn't possible in HX Edit before.

If you want to insert a new block but have its default be off in your snapshots, here's how to do it. Insert the block as you normally would. Hit the Action button and set the Snapshot Bypass parameter to Off (or right click on the block in HX Edit and select Snapshot Bypass from the menu that appears and set it to Off). Toggle the bypass state of the block to Off. Repeat Step 2, but turn the Snapshot Bypass parameter back to On. Now the block will be Off in all your snapshots. Turn it on in the ones you want it on in.

I don't think "MIDI forwarding" is the right way to think of it, as that kind of implies that the Stomp is actively processing the incoming MIDI messages somehow before passing them through. I think really all it's doing is filtering the Sysex messages out. Sysex messages can be problematic because they can sometimes disrupt the other messages from getting through and mess up the timing.

Oh, come on... It's one bug... Kemper and Fractal have their own bugs to deal with. There are threads over on The Gear Page where people are on their third Kemper Stage unit because of footswitch failures and other bugs. Bugs are a part of this sort of equipment. Whatever is happening with this bug, I'm sure Line 6 will get to the bottom of it. It seems that it's very sporadic, and that in some cases it must be deeper than Line 6 thought, because it is actually listed as one of the bug fixes in the 2.82 release notes. The best thing you can do if you experience something odd like this is to open up a support ticket and give Line 6 as much pertinent information as possible.

Why isn't the Helix displaying the PowerCab+ IR names?
phil_m replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
Not sure where you got that information, but, no, you can't. -
This is exactly it. Nixie uses Sysex commands. The Stomp won't pass those commands from it's MIDI Thru jack (or technically, the MIDI Out jack set to Thru).
-
Perhaps a moot point, but I was wrong about the XT Pro... Of those three, only the XTL has the VDI input. I was getting it confused with the X3 Pro in my head.

Why isn't the Helix displaying the PowerCab+ IR names?
phil_m replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
No technical reason for the preset selection thing other than the fact that's it's not really necessary. What advantage does it give you? If you can store every PC+ parameter as part of the Helix preset and change them per snapshot, why would it be any easier to change the Powercab presets remotely? This is DI's post on TGP that you're referring to: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?posts/28932164/ " We'll never add PC+ preset selection from Helix over L6 LINK, because we actively don't want users doing it that way. " I would imagine displaying the names of the IRs in the PC in the Helix is probably doable. -
As long as your presets only use one processor path in the Rack and have six or fewer blocks, yes, you can export them to the Stomp.
-
The XT Live or XT Pro can, but not the XT bean.
-
They weren't really upgraded. They were ported over. It does allow for the algorithms to run at a higher sampling rate, though, so in some cases that might make a slight difference in how they sound. The way Ben Adrian described it once is that it's like they put the older effects in an HX wrapper.
-
Recalled? They've never really done a recall on any product that I know of. Do you have any other method to charge the G10 to see if that works? I would be nice to know if it's the transmitter or jack that's not working.
-
I don't think that's unexpected with a TS cable. EXP1 uses the tip connection in the jack and EXP2 uses the ring connection. With a TS cable, you're shorting the ring to the sleeve, but there's probably some current that runs through the connection when you move the pedal, so the Stomp is interpreting that as a pedal moving.

It seems to me that most of presets designed for direct use (they have DIR in the preset name) were relatively close in volume, but I haven't scrolled through them in quite awhile. There are several use cases represented in the factory presets, though. The FX only presets (they have FX in their name) would probably be significantly lower in volume than the direct presets (and won't sound right in a direct scenario).
-
I think you probably need to contact Yamaha support. What happens to the transmitter when you plug it in? Does it light up at all? I'm assuming you have the amp turned on and plugged in?
-
I missed that you were comparing the Analog Bypass to the DSP Bypass. Without having a buffer in front of the HX Effects, I don't think you can realistically expect them to sound the same. In Analog Bypass mode, it's analogous to plugging directly into a true bypass pedal and then going to your amp. Your pickups will be loaded down with the cable length (plus any impedance effects of the input itself).
-
To me, this sounds like a classic case of plugging a guitar with passive pickups into a low impedance input. Unless it's a hi-Z input designed for an instrument input, you'll lose a lot of top end, and possible get attenuation (hence the 9dB difference). I've used my HX Effects with a bunch of guitar amps, and there is definitely not a 9dB difference, and I really hear no difference with it. I think you issue is particular to your setup.
-
In HX Edit, there are separate buttons on the Powercab tab to change modes on the Powercab. They're up above all the parameters that have sliders. There's three buttons - Speaker, FRFR, and User IR, iirc. You have to select Speaker Mode first if you want to use the speaker models. On the Helix itself, the Powercab mode is a separate parameter.
-
Something sounds out of whack there... The DSP bypass through HX Effects is very transparent. You definitely shouldn't be getting a boost. Do you have the inputs and outputs both set to instrument level? I suspect part of the issue may be the input on your interface. It sounds like it might be a low impedance input. If that's the case, the sound you get from plugging a guitar straight into would be much different compared to plugging into a high impedance input (like the inputs on the HX Effects).

You'd probably have better luck getting responses if you asked this in the big Helix Facebook group (if you're on Facebook). https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/

Would P4 (EADGCF) string tuning be an issue?
phil_m replied to DavidWS's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
It would think it should be fine. I've seen some users report down tuning to Eb tuning and it still working. Tuning those two strings up a half step should be fine. I think tuning up is probably better than tuning down, actually, because it seems the modeling doesn't like it if the string tension is too low.
