  1. Years ago there was a time when information could be had if one asked the right person with experience and knowledge. Over time this has dissappeared due to people getting hurt, ending up in the hospital fighting for their lives or dead in the end. After that the lawsuits start up which cause law to change and it changes the people who have the busineses and knowledge forever after. Add on top of that knowledge is gained by experience and experience is the reult of hard work, some of which never get paid for. Knowing this, knowledge becomes a very important and valuable tool for years to come. For instance, the cars of today are more complicated to work on than say cars from the 60's. Knowing that the 60's conveyances were not as complicated they didn't require as much technical information laid out on paper to make up a service manual or manuals. Cars of today have a library for a service manual, a stack of books that are difficult to carry, lol. More information more valuable. At times, 24 years ago If I needed a small amount of infromation to fix a car and couldn't buy the service manuals 'cause of cost, I would be charged a fee for the tid bit that I needed, lol. Yes, just like Melissa Francis says, "Even when they say it's not, it's always about money". In the end it's about CYA.
  2. Sounds like an incendiary device. LOL
  3. Great post spaceatl and thank you very much. How explained it is the way I did mine the first time except I used a tool which probes both tubes in the DT50 and I can switch between the 2 tubes and measure plate voltage or bias voltage. It also came with good instructions.
  4. Hi spaceatl. Would you be so kind as to explain what position the controls should be set at when setting the bias or just checking the bias on the DT50. Such as should the voicing switch be set on Voicing "I"? Should the class switch be set on Class AB? Should it be on pentode or triode? Should the master be at 12 o'clock? Off standby? Or iit being set on Class AB the most important, etc. It would be nice to reveiw the particulars for basic maintenance. Maybe in a different thread, here or in a PM. I'm not trying to make you responsible for the accuracy of any description you may give. Just trying to pick your experienced brain. Whatever happens have a good day!
  5. You always have good informative posts "S". Very good info. I was reading up one of your other posts about understanding ground loops. Good Stuff as usual. My DT50HD measured 499 on the plate at 36mV. I got this reading using a dual probe. I was replacing the original tubes with new original tubes I bought from AMP HEADS. They were advertised as ultra matched. Using the dual probe I checked both tubes for bias volts and got 32 on one and 36 on the other with plate voltage of 499. Both tubes measured 499 while the bias volts were different. The difference between the tubes concerning bias volts concerned me but I'm not the one who made this amp or tubes. So far I'm thinking the DT50 I purchased new is not reliable, yet. I shouldn't need to do more than adjust the tubes to 36 mV bias reading on the tube that reads the highest value, and I should be on my way to plugging in my guitar or HD500 and playing. BTW, I like to know about the fine details of the amp, which is why I love following post like yours. On the other hand as a consumer I shouldn't have the issues I'm having with a new amp such as the DT50, although I'm all about innovation, building new things and improvement so I expect some problems which is why a warranty is very important. :) Rock On! Carry On!
  6. I had some issues with this as well, thanks for updating. Just a heads up make sure you don't accidentally have a percent sign or characters like that in the tone title or you may not be able to delete it if you want to later, lol.
  7. Fear not, those tubes are still in the box. Nothing but the Line 6 recommended tubes will be used in my DT50. Thanks!! I've used one of these 6CA7's in the Jet City Picovalve I've got and it works great in there so I keep them for that.
  8. As far as I know there is just the bias pot. This is the only adjustment I'm interested in. Any further than that and I need to send it to someone qualified. I'm thinking about buying and building an amp kit someday. He didn't do that with me. Although, I've been hearing that one since the first time someone threw a live condenser in my bare hands, lol. Oh wait, before that, when I would intentionally touch the bare spark plug wire on that old lawnmower of ours while it was running at full throttle, Hahaa...........oh wait, I forgot, since I intentionally cut a live end table light cord with a pair of barber scissors, ahahahaaaaaaaaaa!!!. That last one made my hair stand on end for a while and scissors were ruined, lol. The warning is part of life now, I don't blame them for mentioning it to someone. They probably have to do it as long as they're at work. I hpe when you get your amp back you have as much fun as I am with mine. Best Regards. I'm not sure but I'm sure the expert techs can adjust this value if they feel it's needed. We should'nt need to play with plate voltage.
  9. Maybe it's not the bias voltage that's melting them. I'm no expert on the subject of tubes but the plate voltage is much higher.
  10. After you render and save the track and listen to it do you still hear it. You'll get this crackle noise when you start to over work your computer. I get this crackle pop when I push my computer to it's limit, but I don't hear it after I listen to to the rendered track. I only hear it while monitoing. It's rare that I push my computer that hard anymore as I've learned how to produce without overloading. The first time I heard I didn't know what to make of it, lol.
  11. As long as your doing the above you're alive and well! The older I get the more research I do when it come to new endeavors. Even when I have experience I can expect to learn something, lol.
  12. Good stuff Colonel, Best Regards to your up coming rehersals! Was just on the horn with Line 6 David to ask about the tube replacement options. I had put new EH tubes in it and my bias reading (32mv~36mv) was 4mv differance between the 2 power tubes, This was just before the amp pooped out due to the warranty issue. He said that the differance was most likely due to problems with the amp and that it should've been much closer, I think he said within tenths of a mill volt. I'll check the bias of the amp soon as I'm starting to rack up some hours on it now. I would've done it right away but I really just wanted to enjoy the toy.
  13. i'm just going to get my tubes from Full Compass and make sure they know what kind of amp I'm putting them in, which is taking the advice from Line 6, after all they're the company who should know how to guide me in this area. I really don't want to modify this amp. I just want to enjoy it. So I'll follow the advice of Line 6 on this.
  14. If your having trouble deciding maybe saving money is more important. Go with the less expensive rig. You can always move the amp around with one of those slim hand trucks. and get an extention cab. Magna Cart
  15. My understanding is they use "Line 6 approved tubes". This was the answer I was given in a support ticket along with the recommendation I get them from Full Compass. When I changed my tubes 4 months into the game I went with Ultra Matched power tubes EH's from "AMP HEADS", biased them the best I could, which wasn't that good. I had a 4 mv differance. I knew something was wrong as the 2 tubes should have been closer. A very short time after that it went in for the Main Board, TSB 059, and 2 tubes, lol. Works great now.
  16. This link to the knowledge base on the topic of updateing it may be helpful. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/amplifiers/dt50dt25/dt25dt50-firmware-installation-instructions-r120
  17. Glad your getting it fixed. A broken DT50 isn't much fun at all. One that works is.
  18. I think if you select the pitch glide and double tap the move button you can assign the controller, then you can adjust the positions and parameters on the same screen.
  19. Nick was a smart man, taught me quite a bit about Line 6 devices before I started getting them. Actually he's still teaching me since his posts are archived. I don't know about a set list but here's his custometones.
  20. I would say your lucky to get anything for your gear from GC. It's always better if you can sell your gear to people that know you. Personally when I buy this stuff I don't expect anything back. This way I'm not out. I would just give my stuff to a good cause before I took it to GC All you have to do is ask GC for an estimate of what they would give you for whatever it is you feel like parting with. Last time I was there they used ebay or some other online store to figure out the going market price. They may have changed that process though. Remember they're there to make money not lose it. Even if they seem to be going out of business.
  21. I can relate although not with gigging. A month sounds like too long for me. I think I would have to look into doing my own thing 'cause I may not have the same drive in a month, lol. Sounds like your ready 2 go!! Hang in there. Wish you the best :)
  22. It took me some time to get familiar with the controls. I wasn't going to send mine (Spider III 15) back unless it didn't work correctly. After all these years it still works great. I think I might have just learned something. If that's correct about turning the knobs all the way to right before adjusting, then again I have the III. I'm going to fire that amp out and play with it soon.
  23. Have you seen this part of the manual? http://line6.com/data/6/0a06434d8c33507efa29b63f4/application/pdf/Spider%20IV%2015%20Pilot%27s%20Guide%20-%20English%20%28%20Rev%20F%20%29.pdf If a volume pedal is used before the amp you gert more control over input otherwise your limited to the guitar volume control. The FBV pedal works nice too.
  24. You don't need to get a DT50 to have great tone and a great time playing guitar. Sometimes, I use a UX2/GX into a Jet City Picovalve Head & Cab with great reults. If your interested in the DT line get the DT25. I prefer the Head and Cab.
