Not at all. You would position the Return block immediately before the Output block in either of Path 1 or 2. It uses almost no DSP. It will be mixed with the existing signal on that Path. That's why you'd place it at the end - so it would not be processed at all. You don't need a Vol block - you control the volume from the external device or by the Level parameter in the Return block itself. The main disadvantage of the existing setup is that it is not a global option - you need to add the Return block to every preset that you want to use with the external device playback.

Yes you can play the FX100 without the app or any other device except headphones or speakers/monitors. You will be able to navigate among and select any of the 100 onboard presets.

It undoes the most recent overdub - not the original recorded loop.

You use the Line 6 Updater program, not Monkey, to update Helix firmware. The Line 6 Updater program was installed when you installed the Helix app/editor unless you unchecked the box to prevent its installation. If you can't find it on your computer you can download it and install it from the Downloads area of this website.

Used Variax
silverhead replied to musicimpossible's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
That's right - Workbench was not included with the purchase of older Variax models. It was an optional add-on and its purchase included the USB interface device. -
Yup - simple and useful. I do this for many FX at a time in a single preset. I never use the preset as an actual preset/tone - it's nothing more than a personal library of favourite FX and preferred default settings. Same thing with amps and cabs. Copy and paste into any preset-under-construction as desired.

Here are the procedures I use. 1) Use the Helix app to backup your existing setlists and/or presets that you want to keep. 2) Download the Helix app/editor installer program from the Downloads section of this website. The app/editor is identified as Helix in the Software (not Product) field of the Downloads page. 3) Run the installer program. Make sure you install all three components - the app/editor, the Line 6 Updater program, and the driver. 4) Connect your Helix to the computer via USB and run the Line 6 Updater program. This will update the firmware on your Helix. 5) Restart Helix while holding down footswitches 7 & 8. This will restore the global settings to their default values and also install the factory presets associated with the new firmware. 6) Use the new Helix app/editor to restore the setlists/presets that you backed up in Step 1. Let us know if this procedure fails at any point. Identify where it is failing and provide details.

Used Variax
silverhead replied to musicimpossible's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
You will need the USB interface to use Workbench, the Variax editor. You can use the Variax with Helix without ever using Workbench, but Workbench allows you to customize the Variax models stored in your guitar and create new ones. -
Try backing up the individual setlists rather than the bundle. I know it won't correct the error but it might get you the backup. You can then restore the individual setlists after the firmware update. I find this more practical than backing up the bundle because some firmware updates include new factory presets. Restoring setlits will let you keep the new stuff while restoring your custom setlists.

Have you checked the level of the Hum parameter in the Helix amp model?

It's functional in the sense that the FX follow the set tempo properly. It is temporarily broken in the sense that the tempo saved with a preset is not properly recalled - some default tempo is used. I'm not familiar enough with it beyond that. I'm not sure whether the fault is just a one-time startup issue or whether it occurs with every preset. I'm not sure if you need to manually stomp to reset the tempo for each preset each time it is recalled, or if you only need to do it once after startup. Line 6 is aware of this bug and (I think) has said it will be fixed in the next firmware update.

Digital networking with L3m, L3t, and an L3s
silverhead replied to joeduf's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Not an employee, but.... You will have no issues with any of the above. The L6 LINK connection among any combination of the Stagesource speakers assigns them appropriately. You can use any one, two, or all three of the above and L6 LINK figures it all out. -
That's strange. My browser (Firefox) finds and downloads v1.12. Try clearing your cache/cookies re: Line 6 stuff, and maybe restarting your computer.

You need to update your edit/app. The latest version is available in the Downloads section of this website (under the Support tab above). You will also need to update your firmware to the latest version if you have not done so already. When you download the Helix app you will be presented with a checkbox to also download the Line 6 Updater program. Use this to update the firmware.

Glad to hear you're looking at the newer models (JTV and Standard) because Helix does not support the older models.

•••New Acoustic Guitar IRs from Mama Bear•••
silverhead replied to PeterHamm's topic in Helix
In the spirit of your initial post, Peter...... PeterHamm is the single most incredible person alive on the planet today and because I am older than him I will never be like him when I grow up. Seriously though I have just tried a couple of these with my Variax. The parlour IR with the Martin O-18 model and the rosewood dreadnaught IR with the Martin D-28 model. Both sound really good.- 35 replies

The diagram shows the Mobile Pod running on the iPad. That's where the amp (software model/simulation) is. If you're not running Mobile Pod or some equivalent when recording you will get the low level signal you described. You stated that you get a good level when using the Mobile Pod app while recording, but there is some noise and latency. Add a noise gate to the Mobile Pod signal chain, and monitor (use your headphones) using Sonic Port rather than your iPad to remove the latency.

Newbie Variax Question
silverhead replied to musicimpossible's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yes you would be missing out on the newer HD guitar modeling technology introduced with the JTV guitars at firmware v2.0 (v1.8 for the acoustic models). No the older Variax models with no mag pickups cannot be upgraded to the newer modeling technology. However, as psarkissian explained there is no drawback for you (that I can see) by using one of the newer mag-pickup-equipped Variax models (JTV or Standard) and simply not using the mag pickups. If you are using the Variax modeling there is no sound from the mag pickups being sent to the Variax output. And, as a benefit, the mag pickups will be there if for any reason in the future you want to use the Variax as a regular guitar. -
I don't think there is a problem if I understand correctly. If you are recording the direct dry guitar signal from Sonic Port, without any amplification or processing by something like Mobile Pod, then I would expect things to be as you describe. Your guitar itself puts out a very weak signal that requires amplification of some sort. If you are not amplifying it before recording it you should get a weak signal level in the recording program. The same thing happens with any Line 6 guitar multi-fx unit that allows you to record the dry signal directly. It is a very low level signal, and people use that to re-amp the signal after it is recorded using plugins or external hardware.

Don't worry - the info about using the Return input was in the post that you already marked as the answer. ;)

So - back to your original question..... I don't know if this is a general bug or not. I never use the bundle because I find backing up individual setlists more practical. That's because new firmware updates often include new/modified factory presets or setlists. So restoring a previously saved bundle will overwrite the new factory presets. I update the firmware, reload the new factory presets/setlists, then import my previously saved custom setlists individually. This method bypasses the error you are experiencing.
-
A caution about using 7 and 8 to reset - this will replace all presets and setlists on the device, including your User setlists and any custom presets you have made. You should back these up first. I suggest backing up all setlists individually rather than backing up the bundle. After restoring the factory setlists (7 and 8 startup) you can individually restore you custom setlists and presets.
