  1. A DT is on my "list". During some of my less affluent years I used to run an old Ampeg V4B head into a Kustom 2x15 (yes blue tuck and roll) and it was thunderous. Those 15" speakers move some air. BTW for the Valve Jr. I know what you are talking about as I've used the Kustom Defender (pretty similar) and as a small tube head it really shined.
  2. What output mode are you using for the HD? I have ran one Studio Direct into the fx loop and it was pretty sweet. I like the various flavors the Flextones offer but would not go 4CM with one.
  3. I want to say I saw the vid from NAMM 2017 but there was a modular guitar shown. You could go different styles, PUs etc. If a modular Variax was really wanted it could be transplanted to that.
  4. You can shoot L6 a email and hope or you could hit google and look for a schematic if no one has a part reference. I only had one apart years and years ago and don't remember what the guts look like. I suppose you could shine a flash light on it to see if anything responds.
  5. Haha! Matt for the win! Yeah if you have the $$$ it is an awesome way to go.
  6. Try the windows 8 version too - someone had L6 Edit working with that one on Win10.
  7. Hey there, from an old trouble shooting guide - there are a couple of things that could be the issue. The film strip should have no creases and should be able to move freely. Check the solder joints and the photo receptor/emitter. So it does look like you are on the right path. Sorry I can't offer up much more help.
  8. Ironically enough last weekend I dusted off an old Nady GTA 1260 all tube amp that has no fx loop. Ran the HD into it and it was a holy mess until the HD's volume and amp's settings were adjusted. Running into the front of an amp (not just a tube amp btw) is adding another potential layer of gain via the amp's pre. So the distortion patch was driving the amp into further distorting its preamp. It can sound great but not the ideal setup. But if its all you have it will work. Running the HD into the fx loop of a Crate V32 was sweet and deafening.
  9. The HD really benefits from the EQs too - low pass and high pass IMO are needed to chop out the high highs and low lows. Lows ~ 60-80 MHz is mud and High 6k + can be where fizz and other high gain unpleasant items can be hiding. I will toss a comp in a high gain chain too to kill the dynamics a bit when chugging rhythms benefit from it.
  10. The badge on top will have it labeled. In case it doesn't - XL 2 12" speakers and the Plus will have a jack for the expansion cab in the rear. They are open back cabs so yep everything is visible.
  11. Sure $100 seems fair, even more so with the Floorboard - I have seen them sell for more (and you have no shipping costs which can be a beast). Hopefully its the Plus or XL model. Just make sure it switches channels and all the knobs and buttons work. If the internal battery needs to be replaced it will not save patch settings but the battery is an easy fix.
  12. To "1000" you go Sunshine! :D Can't argue too much though.
  13. I would return it to where you bought it from if it doesn't work. You can see if the editor will work with it or try to reset it.
  14. Remember there is the power supply to check AND look in the HD's USB port to see if the black block that centers the pins is still there. Sometimes they can break. Hope its just user error or a cheap fix.
  15. Well if you can't get the computer to detect you are probably screwed. Use the USB ports on the back BTW no hubs. IF you can get it connected there is hope.
  16. Download the HD flash file to your computer. Safe Mode Reflash: Unplug everything (guitar, cables, etc) Hold the Down Arrow button then plug the power in. Hopefully you will get the "update flash". Connect the HD via USB and start L6 Monkey. Select "Flash From File" Then go back up and follow Nico's reset post. There is a chance that the Power Supply went bad. If all fails it probably needs to go to the shop.
  17. I don't have Spider V but on the Pods parking the knobs helps with that issue. Parking means setting the knobs to 0 then turning the amp on - not the master vol though. Hopefully its the same on the new Spiders.
  18. True C and can't argue, but it has happened (XT->X3) but it all depends on the $ of the market and whether the HD tech is a viable seller. I still don't think L6 will leave that market share they have earned.
  19. Those are file extensions like doc is a Word document. Drop and drag them into a preset slot in HDEdit when the HD is connected and load them to test.
  20. Boss' GT-001 and Amplfire are starting to make some waves and have some $$ headroom to improve on the sub $1,000 market (Zoom too the G5n is not too shabby) FWIW. I have to believe L6 knows the HD is at the end of its run unless a hardware revamp is coming to blow out and add some features.
  21. I have the Vetta and it is a tone beast. With the VDI interface my Variax 500 plugs right in. I have not came across too many Vetta owners who were disappointed. One thing though is they are old and somewhat unsupported. The Spider V has had some great reviews and ............... a warranty. :)
  22. You know the "at home bee's knees" is running it through a tube power amp. Was cranking an HD through an old Crate V32 last week.......... nice. I go full amp sim studio direct btw and eq according to physical amp/cab sounds (at near volume if I can).
  23. It depends on the Ear of the Beholder. Tone is subjective so my opinion would be to try one prior to getting rid of the other.
  24. Shhhhh... how can I be baitin' with all this noise! :)
  25. Just went there and looked. Spider Jam = 3 pages of downloads. Not sure what the issue is. IE 11 was used.
