  1. For an audition I would listen to the tunes and see if you can get some approximate general patches working. Clean, blues, rock and OD? you can put a boost in for leads if needed. 9/10 they have shot a list at you and depending on the time allotted know as much as you can but try and really nail some select ones. Most bands have lil cues they get used too (for breaks, solos, etc... ) so if they have FB/YouTube stuff up see if there are tunes in particular they always post and look for them. Cover bands have "comfort songs" too so if a tune is usually posted its a fave. So it looks like you are already there. There are always exceptions like Boston... that tone always drives me nuts and some Cars stuff. :)
  2. Are you saying you are having problems with the USB/Midi cable? If you are trying to flash ithe XT using a cheap Chinese one that is probably the issue. MAudio Uno is the way to go.
  3. Download them to your PC then use the editor to open then load them into the Pod.
  4. This is not the place. The L6 peeps generally are not here cruising around as this is a user support forum. You need to dig and find out actual contact info. If your degree fits an open slot, 9/10 no response = not interested, but keep plugging at them.
  5. A GNX4 in decent shape can go $100-150 sometimes more. Just saying.................
  6. Many times its the "Metal Zone" syndrome. The pedal sounds kick lollipop in the bedroom - awesomely scooped EQ. With the band - oopsy doodle - better EQ the mids back to be heard. Or my fave DOD Death Metal \m/ - no gain knob as its always on 11. :)
  7. IMO if you want to fool around and learn about compressors - start with a clean patch and pop the compressor in and out playing at various settings. For say a country tune if you are hitting the rhythm pretty good it will keep the volume spikes in check. For the lead parts I wouldn't use one too much but that's not a rule. High gain is awesome if you have some good technique down - palm muting, accuracy, etc.. gain can make mistakes shine at high volume.
  8. The GNX4 + The Supermodels Disks (get The Ultimate) are that good and worth the $. I've progressed up the GNX food chain up to the GNX3k and the 4/3's are still fun. The warp feature makes blending the amps pretty easy.
  9. That's a better question for M-Soft and Apple. L6 didn't change their code they did - each OS has limited legacy support.
  10. $350!!! F-me but that is crazy, you can buy 3 used ones with shipping at that cost. Sorry it turned out like that.
  11. At whay is the oblem pray?
  12. Just guessing on this... with the unit powered off: Spray some DeOxit (or other contact cleaner) on a 1/4" jack and do the in/out a few times on the jacks. Sometimes the jacks get a little oxidized. Only reason I mention this is a few amps I've had needed this treatment. Another thing to try would be the "turn the knobs all the way c-wise abunch of times and then do it ccw". That would be for the pots as a just in case. But it really doesn't sound like the typical "pot jitter". -B
  13. Big Bottom is one of my faves in the HD Metal Pack too. \m/
  14. Get that puppy in there ASAP if its under warranty. If a reflash or different power supply doesn't fix it let the factory pay the tab.
  15. First off you need to find out what product he is using. Pod HD, X3, XT, amp?...... Custom Tone has patches per device and it will make searches easier. A good start would be the manual.
  16. Have you tried opening up the tones in the editor? I can't remember exactly but you might not need the Pod connected. One thing I noticed about the Uno (I know you ordered a different one but just in case) I usually have to switch the connections from the normal midi way. In/in out/out worked and on different mfgs stuff too - so keep that in your hat when the cable comes in.
  17. http://line6.com/media/customtone.com/Line_6_Tone_Exchange.zip Well that will get you "everything".
  18. Just guessing here as I don't know what the intention was of the original patch builder (and I don't have HD Edit here so I am going off memory). Perhaps there was a FS assigned to switch amps? He just didn't feel like taking the time to delete the signal path? Who knows - may be he figured the vol pedal would never be zero'ed. :) If the amp is off there is no amp volume control, but the path is still there the vol control will be active when the amp is (assuming it was ever assigned) - I suppose like stacking FX the signal passed through - you can assign parameters to the footswitch but until the FX is active it won't actually do anything. Hope that helps! B
  19. Well keep chugging away at it my man! There are some excellent threads here on the Eq, which when combined with the DEP parameter info Hurghanico did a great find on. These will be your polish and refiners. \m/ B \m/
  20. I always forget about the GT Series.. good call. In the end "lollipops & giggles" threads are always good. :) Its an awesome world of gear.
  21. Hey Peter, I think you are right and there is a gap in the market right now. I was hoping Zoom would have stepped up and fixed some issues with the G5 but the "new" G5n seems to have fallen short. Digitech seems awfully quiet - I really liked the gsp1101 (with the beta firmware for IRs) but it seems to have floundered. What but the HD is there?
  22. I had always wanted an electric guitar. The pics of the guys jamming (used to get Hit Parader and Circus) looked like wizards and I was mesmerized at how "THAT" made what I was hearing. It took some long hours on that paper route too to save up but man when I got that case home the world changed. You know people talk of that new car smell but I still prefer that guitar/case smell of a new find.
  23. I think its a YMMV issue though and tone chasing falls back to the "ear of the beholder". Much of my gear falls back to want rather than need. My old RP250 (and Pod 2.0) can crank away awesomely through a power amp/cab - it has the basics I need (clean, blues, rock) for general use jamming. But the HD (for ex) has the variety and realism I want for more accurate models for my own enjoyment when things needs to be notched up (gig vs jamming/OMs). Gear can't make bad technique better IMO but then again price doesn't always equate to cheap/bad.
