Ordered Helix - should I sell my Pod HD Desktop and controller?
BillBee replied to spiderbaby's topic in Helix
Well the only reason I would keep it (for myself) is I might use it again. It is still exceptionally relevant in the modeling world and you can't beat the form factor. Old tones revisited can feel fresh. -B -
If you can try some different speakers too. I found I liked the cabs with GT75s over the V30s going studio direct. Currently Tech21 PE60 but I have used the old trusty Rocktron Velocity 120 which sounded great with a 2x12 closed cab (I think it had Peavey Black Widows in it). Studio direct all the way.

Hey Dude, I don't have a Spider IV (so I can't talk about the "losing tone, etc.") but I think you can use the cheaper FBV Express MKII to do the firmware flashing on that unit. The Express is a lot cheaper and you can probably score a used one for ~ $50. Though to be honest - if you like the amp and you will find yourself wanting to get the bigger floorboard. :) It happens. \m/ B \m/

I have it installed on 3 HDs myself.

SD card port for file/set list transfer etc....

In the big picture how much of a dent would any of this put in an amp mfgs wallet? Probably not too much, if any. With the $ tag of a Kemper as high as it is I don't know anyone personally who has ever had one (forums aside) and even then doesn't the user have to know how to "extract" the "magic vibe". If you can sit down and dial in a JCM tone that is really close on the HD haven't you just eliminated another JCM sale too. So to morals on modeling I say bah!, the argument is better placed towards the Chinese clone copies - you know the ones, "open book" headstock and a nice Gibby logo. I've even seen a few fake Ibby Jems all trying to be pawned off as authentic.

Help with FBV Shortboard MKii please
BillBee replied to kprivigyi's topic in FBV Controllers (MKI / MKII / 3)
Well if you took it apart you might want to do it again and if I remember right there is a ribbon cable in there, check to make sure it is seated right. If the pedal droops there is an hex bolt in the side so just give it a tweak clock-wise to tighten. Support takes a bit of time but as you took it apart there probably is no way for them to know what you "may" have done. Hopefully nothing is fatal in there. -
I still have the ole GNX3000 and it has a great pedal - soft rubber covering. I have often wished that L6 would put a toe switch in where you could set the activation pressure like the D-Tech stuff (small gripe though). :)

The VT999 is supposed to be real good with a few simple mods. I looked at those years ago and opted for the Seymour Duncan Classic Twin Tube (SFX-03?). Haven't chained it with the HD but on its own was really nice. FWIW. :)

Problem With Pod XT display
BillBee replied to GroovedogStudios's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
Hey Man! I don't have the manual in front of me (or an XT) but there is a contrast option in one of the menus. Tricky part is getting to it if the display is totally washed. I had this happen on an XT Bean and it made it readable, on my XT Pro nope needs to go in for service. Hope that points you in the right direction. -B -
Hence the creation of a "restocking fee".

Does anyone know of any good tones to emulate brass sounds?
BillBee replied to OasisMcFly's topic in POD HD
A buddy has the organ one and it is fantastic... almost mellotron-esque for organ sounds.. There were a couple of vids of EH guys going for brass sounds but YMMV TBH. \m/ -

Electro Harmonix has some pretty cool pedals to get tones like that. You can run them through the HD's FX loop block. -
Pretty nice my man. I wonder if this is why some folks run into issues going into the front end of an amp. All hail the "master volume" knob! -B
-
Yeah it can be confusing. There has been many OSs and products that I would fear some legacy stuff being dropped if a revamp was done. Glad you got it sorted out! :) -B
-
Reflashing without keeping your patches will put all the presets back to whatever the flash's version was. That would take care of #1,2,&3. -B

Cool, I think that will be the way forward for ya. Just remember "out" from the FCB to the "in" on the HD. Years ago I was banging my head until I realized that. :)

Broken Line 6 Dl-4 Component
BillBee replied to buttsexor's topic in DL4 MkII / DL4 / MM4 / DM4 / FM4 / AM4 / ToneCore
Eeesh Dude, I would take the part into the store and see if they can identify it. They may have a massive magnifying glass or can get a hint off the pcb. -
Hey my man! http://line6.com/support/topic/2677-pod-hd-pro-fcb1010-midi-foot-controller/ I've used the FCB1010 (Eureka rechipped IIRC) with an XT Pro and Pod Pro but its been years and I don't have a HD Pro (yet).... so I had to pop a link for you. Find the HD midi chart and there should be a section in the manual if you need to set any variables nab the FCB Editor. Midi goes in/out and out/in usually.

Oh man don't get me started on ham fisted deaf drummers. I've offered to buy ours a drum shield, practice pads in an effort to save my hearing. At practice I can't stand too near the kit or my ears will be ringing (again) the rest of the night. Our bass player too - he is a bit older and pops the hearing aids out during practice - makes for playing way too loud and not listening to what he is playing. So I "hear" ya. ;) Hope its just wax and he is gentle with the vibrator. :D

I would rather have some Mercyful Fate & Celtic Frost then Green Day TBH. :) The prog stuff is amazing like Carl Palmer's group, Steven Wilson solo (or with Carl) but on my long term listening list it looks grim. But that said I still like Bad Company too........ Ooooo Rock Steady........ \m/
