Hee heee, I believe PG means he has the "fret work (leveling, refretting, etc.) done by a tech". :) -B
  2. Chas is right the HD's ps and the XTL's ps are different so don't do that.
  3. and I would double check the power supply to make sure a) its the right specs b) try a different one - just in case it went bad.
  4. Pod Farm 1 works with the XTL - fire up Pod Farm with it connected and go to the about screen (under Help - I think) and your installed model packs should be shown there. +1 for Gearbox, as Zap sez it will do what you need to do with an XT if Pod Farm 1 is not to your liking. -B

    LINE 6 HD 500X

Sitting here without HD Edit so off the top of my head: Open the preset up in HD Edit and go to the page for the pedal button assignments. It will help to open up a patch where you have it working to see what the pedal settings were (or at least similar). Hope that helps. -B

If you really are that new of a guitar player you cannot beat a setup from a shop (ask some buddies and go local if you can). Well worth the money. In time you will learn what action, strings etc... you prefer. But right now a playable guitar is what you need. On Squiers I have seen every thing from badly cut nuts, high frets to simple things like resetting the action for a different gauge of strings (floating a trem can get fun - not Floyd fun but fun nonetheless) never had to shim a neck though like on some Ibanez. A good setup will give you an idea of what you should be trying to adjust the guitar for. Rather than randomly trying things. BTW I am not trying to put you off from trying as eventually you should learn. -Bill
  7. Hey There, You are going to have to list more info than that if someone is going try and help you. That's like calling a garage and saying "my car will not run". :) Offhand, the first thing would be to try a different USB cable and/or different USB port. You can always try it on a different computer to see if the unit itself is ok. -B
  8. Go to the downloads page and download the flash file, then select within Monkey "update from file". That's the first thing to try. Then report back.
  9. The #1 cause are the cheap usb/midi cables (the $2 ones). Your best bet is to get the MAudio Uno - (try them "in - in" & "out - out" as sometimes that's how it goes with those). The cheap ones are noted for poor results. -B
  10. Hey There, I don't have a Mac but the Mac users have reported some success by upgrading to the latest release of El C (10.11.1 or such). One guy had an XT so that should give some hope. Hopefully that will do the trick. There are some threads here you can look at and if this POS browser would let me copy and paste I would do that for ya. :) -B
  11. No prob my man. FX = effects. Its just a shorter way of typing it. They put them on amps in the front or the rear. Sometimes they use different names "amp in amp out" etc. Have a good one! -B
  12. IMO I would say no. A normal amp requires a certain amount of impedance (2, 4, 8 ohms) or you risk blowing the head. Even IF it could be done you would more than likely over clip it like a beast. Now if you are talking about using a dummy load on the head's main outs and then running from the FX loop out to the HD for output to studio monitors then I don't know TBH. Never tried it. -B
  13. Much Awesomeness to you too Brazz-meister and also to my fellow L6 Forumites (gruntled, disgruntled and otherwise). You guys have been with me through frustrating EQs, firmware mishaps and occasional cases of GAS. :) \m/ B!ll \m/
  14. http://en.audiofanzine.com/solid-state-combo-guitar-amp/peavey/solo-series-bandit-112-scorpion-speaker/user_reviews/ This is like the old one I have. Click on the image and look near the top right it reads "effects". That is the FX loop. One jack sends the signal out and the other receives the signal back in (hence the loop). :) But any amp you look for should have this feature if you just want to use the XTL's modeling. Speakers can be changes and if you are just getting started "used" amps are a great way to save money. The Marshall Valvestates are pretty good for the $ too. They are a decent amp on their own and when you go to ~ 40watt (IIRC) they start to include a FX loop too. I would not spend a lot of money on a used Bandit 112. There are just too many options depending on how far you want to go. -B
  15. What "studio direct" means - it is the output setting on the XTL itself. The XTL has a variety of settings (combo front, and a few others I can't remember). What you need in an amp is basically an FX loop (which the Bandit has) which you route the XTL into. This allows you to use the amp's power section only, which is what you want as you are going to be using the XTL's modeling. I am not sure where you live but in the US old (non-transtube) ones run $100 and lower. I can't comment on the newer ones as I haven't used them. But the Bandit is only one example of a SS amp, there a lots out there from Crate, Marshall etc. But if the seller is cool you can "try before you buy". Just watch the volume at first as going into the FX loop bypasses the amp's preamp and volume controls. -B
  16. Those lil tube amps are sweet - I have a Kustom Defender 5w too and run it through a 1x12 and yes it is sweet. Its crazy as it gets LOUD to for 5w. A Bandit 1x12 is a solid amp. For solid state IMO it is great. Built like a tank and affordable with enough watts to hold up jamming with friends. I still have an old 80s one and the FX loop takes modelers very well. The speakers Peavey used were pretty sweet. Remember, to me, studio direct was the setting to use for the XTL's output setting. There are other tricks too like using the EQ to "de-fizz" basically cutting the real low and high freqs. Amps choice is really based on what you want to do and how much you want to spend. -B
  17. Amp size depends on what you are looking to do with it. If you just want to jam around the house then 30w is more than enough. IF you are going to jam with some friends its going to be on the edge of being too underpowered. Jamming with a 40-60w will keep up with a ham-handed drummer and a deaf bassist. :) If you want to take it to the stage - the sound guy will mic the cab but it is still nice to have that puppy cranking behind you. Lots of options - a decent way to go would be Peavey as a starter. A solid state Bandit (a great amp on its own btw) with an fx loop can go a long way for the $. The older ones had some great black widow speakers and were tough enough to survive a war. So it really depends on what you want to do and how much $$ you want to invest. -B
  18. Yep I set the XTL to "studio" and don't use much of the tone controls on the amp - which is ~ 33lbs. The XT never appealed to my ears on the amp settings -> fizzy - but studio into the FX return of an amp (or just a power amp) sounds good. I never liked the idea of trying to run a modeler into a modeling amp and really never was successful at running pedals into them either TBH. But when you go to the HD series, the DT amps are a whole world away from the technology we mortals are talking about.
  19. I was cranking an XT Live through a Tech 21 PE60. It did sound mighty fine. :) Its basically a power amp and a 1x12 cab.
  20. Off hand I would try switching out the easy parts. Cables first, guitar (single coils are noisy so try an out of phase setting or something with a h-bucker), try locating the UX2 away from CFLs, monitors stuff like that. My UX2 would pick up some static from the lamp (cfls in there) if it was too close by. Its the "pad" comment that makes me think you are picking something up and not the UX itself. Mind you some of the amps are noisy with background noise. -B
  21. Ahhh the ole $2 cable it is the usual cause of the editor not working. You need to get a MAudio Uno cable - its one that works. -B
  22. Hmmm. What usb/midi cable are you using? It seems like you are getting the short data transfers but not the longer ones.
  23. and be sure to look at the 4CM SpaceATL came up with for the Bean using the mic in. Most excellent. http://line6.com/support/topic/2177-4-cm-the-hd-pod-bean-oh-yes-this-works/ I like to pop this out there when the Bean stuff comes up. -B
  24. That is one thing to mention is "if" you set everything up with a FRFR system be sure to tell the sound dude to leave the eq'ing flat (or at least start that way). Some guys have their pet eq curve and haven't met a lot running full modelers.
