I've been using my M13 for a couple months now and generally love it. But I cannot figure out how to get a volume boost for a solo without using an overdrive or distortion effect. Often I want to do a clean solo, perhaps with just some delay or phaser. But those types of effects don't have a gain or output level parameter that I can adjust to boost my signal loud enough for a solo. Am I missing something? Is there some type of "transparent" effect that has an output level parameter I can use for a "clean boost"? Is there some overall setting/preference I should be tweaking? I don't have a volume pedal and I don't want to be dependent on an expression pedal for this. I want to be able to hit one foot switch and not have to do the pedal dance. I run a mono set up, simple input/output with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I have a post up already about transferring SysEx files to/from my M13 but this is specifically about getting a CLEAN dump from the M13. I now know for sure that when I have a good, clean 16 messages of 157 bytes each, that I can successfully load that scene onto the M13. However, if I then do a dump of that same scene back to either my PC or MacBook Pro, that extra bytes are added the files gets corrupted. How can I ensure that when I transfer SysEx MIDI files as a manual dump that it is CLEAN? Has anybody had this same issue?

I have been struggling to get my saved SysEx scenes loaded back onto my M13. I've tried every method but so far, without success. My latest attempt was using a MIDI SysEx Transfer Utility (MSETU) from the Microsoft Store. It does a validation check and I received a message saying that it was invalid as F0 and F7 were mis-matched! MidiOx transfers the data, as I can see the data in the Monitor and the flashing screen 4. However, if this MSETU message is correct, then it won't update. Does anyone know what the SysEx is meant to be, v.v. F0/F7 messages matching? Also, are there SysEx files online that are downloadable, or can someone attach an example for me to try? Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, newbie here. I recently brought a second hand m13. This morning I went to set it up and I only get sound while the pedal is in bypass mode. If I engage an effect then I get silence. I tried on about 5 different guitars, 3 amps and a host of cables to rule out any other silly problems. My dignoses is that the fault is within the m13 unit. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it resolvable or have I brought a fluff? I was very excited to map out some sounds but alas I won’t be able too!

Hello folks, since MIDI Ox still does not run under Windows 10 I don't have any idea how to backup (and restore) my M13-scenes. Is there any easy to handle software (I don't have an knowledge about MIDI at all) on the market which can do the job? And which MIDI-USB interface would you recommend if you only need it for backups and restores once in a while? Any suggestions are mostly appreciated. Thank you very much for your kind support in advance. Best regards Blue

Line 6, what are the chances of getting any updates to the M series? Every couple years I do some research to see if there's anything new or exciting going on with the M Series. My hope was that with the M5 added to the lineup that the M Series platform was not dead and that Line 6 would update some patches or add some new effects. It's such a valuable pedal, I'd gladly pay for new effects or software improvements. I have the Strymon Timeline and the Eventide H9 but the M9 has always managed to keep a place on my board. I must say that the ongoing customer relationship with Eventide through H9 has be spectacular. Would love to see a model like that developed that involves the occasional update. Thanks, John Michael

Hey Folks, I'm having issues sending a backup file to my Line 6 M13, I tried both a USB - Midi cable and my Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 's midi output. It was possible to send my backup to SysEx but not the other way around. Any tips? Thanks David

Received this m13 as is from someone. Before I buy a new power supply for no reason or open up and replace lcd screens, I wanted to get an opinion on what could be possible issues here. The m13 works and all the screens power up with colors. However, starting from left to right, each screen text display gets worse until the far right screen barely has anything displayed. The first screen is at least readable, but the others are not. The progressive degradation from left to right leads me to think it could be a power issues, but IDK. (FYI, I just flashed the latest firmware update with no change.) Pics below, Thanks!!!

Hello people! I'm brand new to the Line 6 forums. I'm having a few issues updating the Firmware on my LINE 6 M13. The pedal is awesome (when it works). So everything stopped working and i stopped getting sound out of it. When I hook up my cables, you can hear this buzzing when you turn the overdrive effects on, so there definately is a connection there, but when you plug the guitar in nothing comes through. I have of course tested out all cables and everything. So I did some digging and I am on something like 1.07 firmware, and I need to upgrade to the newest one. I've been following the instructions that I found here (http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/m5-m9-m13/m13-firmware-update-instructions-r364) They are easy to follow but still nothing. I've tried it using MIDI-OX utility. I download the Sysex file, and follow it step by step. When I'm in MIDI OX and I send the file through to the unit, my little USB Midi device lights up (it has LEDS for Midi in and Midi out, and the Midi Out is flashing indicating that it's sending midi data through the out cable). My poor old M13 just sits there, on the display it says 'Waiting command' I get all the way to the end sending the Sysex data over, but it looks like the M13 is not recieving it. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and if anyone has successfully done it!

M13 FIRMWARE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS NEEDED: A MIDI interface that connects to your computer via USB (download the current Driver for it if you don't have it installed) 2 MIDI cables (or a MIDI interface such as the M-Audio Uno that comes with attached MIDI cables Note: Line 6 recommends a name brand USB to MIDI interface produced by an audio company that supports/updates their drivers. Good choices include: M-Audio, Edirol, E-Mu and MOTU. These interfaces have proven to be more robust and reliable when it comes to large MIDI transfers such as the M9 and M13 update.. For further information on MIDI connectivity and interfaces, please go over the following MIDI Document. A MIDI sequencer app such as Cubase or a sysex app -- if you don't have a sysex app installed, do a Google search for MIDI Ox (Windows) or Sysex Librarian (Mac) then download one or the other and install it. When your MIDI interface, Driver and sysex app are ready to go, follow PROCEDURE instructions below. If you experience trouble with this update, please make sure your cable connections are correct and to try un-installing the drivers for the MIDI interface, then, downloading and re-installing the drivers from the manufacturer's website. Then, try updating once again. Additional Instructions for MAC Users Using Sysex Librarian: Some users found that changing the "Pause Between Played Messages" in the 'General' tab of Preferences from the default 60ms to 100ms allowed them to update. Additional Instructions for WINDOWS Users Using MIDI Ox: 1. Make sure the Driver is installed and working. 2. Run the MIDI Ox application. 3. Go to Option, then MIDI Devices; select USB Audio Device for both MIDI Inputs and MIDI Outputs; un-check Automatically Attach Inputs To Outputs During Selection; click OK to accept it. 4. Go to View, then Port Routing; delete the connection between Input Ports and Output ports if they are connected; make sure only MIDI Ox Event Port connects to Output Ports. 5. Go to View, then Sysex; in Sysex View and Scratchpad, go to Sysex, then Configure, make sure to check Delay After F7 and set the Delay (Milliseconds Between Buffers) to 60ms; click OK to accept. Now you're ready to go. One more thing: If the update fails when using a USB hub, please try it without the hub. PROCEDURE: ***WARNING: Updating your firmware will erase user created scenes. Please back up your scenes as described in the M13 Scene Backup document and the M13 Advanced User's Guide.*** 1. Connect your MIDI interface to your computer via USB cable. 2. Connect the M13 MIDI Out to your MIDI interface In, and connect the M13 MIDI In to your MIDI interface Out. 3. Power on the M13 while pressing and holding down the 'Model Select' knob in FX UNIT 1 to put the M13 into FLASH UPDATE MODE. 4. Make sure your computer is set up to 'see' the MIDI interface (on Mac, you must configure Audio MIDI Setup -- on Win, see ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS For Windows Users above). 5. Download the latest M13 Firmware from the Line 6 website (log in with your Line 6 User Name). 6. Launch your sysex app and select your MIDI interface Out port (for Sysex Librarian, use the top dropdown menu -- for MIDI Ox, select Options/MIDI Devices). 7. Load the M13 sysex file (in Sysex Librarian, select 'Add to Library' from the File menu; In MIDI Ox, select Actions/Send>'SysEx File...' and the 'Sysex View and Scratchpad will pop up. 8. Press Play (in Sysex Librarian). If using MIDI-OX, select 'Send Sysex File' from the 'File' menu of the 'Sysex View and Scratchpad Window'. A file browser will open for you to navigate to the M13 sysex file you downloaded from the Line 6 website. Select the M13 sysex file and click 'Open.' 9. The M13 will receive the sysex data and the unit will be updated to the latest Firmware. It sometimes takes 30 seconds to 1 minute to appear like the unit is receiving the update and takes about 8-10 minutes to complete. The M13 will re-initialize when the update is complete and the screens will light up with the new factory presets.

I just got a used M13 modeler. I love the effects as they are absolutely amazing for worship music. However, I cannot get it working. I tested both cables first and then began my setup. I plugged my amp into its main "input" and into the "output L(mono)" slot on the modeler. I have plugged my guitar into the "input L(mono)" slot. I also did a factory reset and for whatever reason, I can't get any sound to come through. There is a dry noise I can hear but nothing from my guitar. The tuner also isn't picked up on anything but when I turn the modeler off, I am able to play through the amp. I am so new to this type of setup, any feedback on how I might solve this?

A: You can register any Line 6 product to your account here: Registration. For more detailed registration help, please see the Product Registration F.A.Q. . Q: What is the warranty on the M9? A: Twelve months from the date of purchase. Any Authorized Line 6 Service Center you visit will need you to provide a copy of the purchase receipt to validate date for warranty processing. Please be sure to have those materials ready, should you need to get your unit serviced under warranty. Troubleshooting & Service Q: How do I perform a Factory Reset on the M9? A: You can perform a factory reset by entering the Setup screen (press both B1 and B2 at once) and navigating to the Screen with the MIDI, GATE, Display header and turning the Model Select knob until the corresponding parameter displays RST FACT? You can then press down on the TAP footswitch then the Model Select Knob together twice to reset the unit. You can also re-install the flash memory to return the M9 to factory settings. Q: What is a "Scene"? A: A "scene" is a pedal board arrangement on your Line 6 M9 Stompbox Modeler with 6 available effects, up to 3 at once. Q: How many scenes are there and how do I access them? A: With the 2.01 update, you can create and save up to 6 different scenes in one Scene Folder. With 4 Scene Folders, you get 24 total scenes on the M9! Press 3A and the TAP button at the same time to access the scenes and turn the MODEL SELECT knob to access the additional folders. Q: Can I backup my scenes to my computer?A: You can backup your scenes via MIDI. Check out the M9/M13 Scene Backup document. Q: Which expression pedals can I use with the M9? A: We recommend using the Line 6 EX-1 expression pedal. You can also use any other expression pedal containing a 10k Ohm Potentiometer. Expression pedals allow you to change stompbox controls using your feet so you can adjust the sound while you play. On the fly, you can modify the delay time and feedback, speed of your tremolo, or sweep the pitch on the Pitch Bender effect. Connect an expression pedal to your M5 Stompbox modeler. Start with the pedal in the toe position. Once you have your effect parameters settings as desired rock the expression pedal to its heel position. Now set your parameters to your desired settings. As you move your expression pedal from heel to toe, you'll see all of the adjusted parameters move between these settings. All parameters affected by an expression pedal will show a pixel notch at the top indicating a parameter's setting for the toe position of the pedal. You'll also see a notch at the bottom that indicates a parameter's settingwith the expression pedal in the heel position. Additionally, if you don't want a parameter adjusted by the expression pedal, set the parameter's knob to where you want it with the heel down, then do the same with the heel up.

M5/M9/M13 BACKUP INSTRUCTIONS *** This procedure is also explained in the M9 Advanced User's Guide and M13 Advanced User's Guide REQUIRED: A MIDI sequencer app such as Cubase or a sysex app -- if you don't have a sysex app installed, do a Google search for MIDI Ox (Windows) or Sysex Librarian (Mac) then download one or the other and install it. And ONE of the following: A MIDI interface that connects to your computer via USB (download the current Driver for it if you don't have it installed) & 2 MIDI cables OR A MIDI - USB interface such as the M-Audio Uno that comes with attached MIDI cables. You may need to download & install the latest driver from the manufacturer for this device. When your MIDI interface, Driver and sysex app are ready to go, follow PROCEDURE instructions below. Windows: Saving Scenes & Folders: 1. Run MIDI OX. You can do so from Start > Program Files > MIDI OX. 2. Set "Pass Sysex" & "Start Display" to On by clicking on the the 'REC' & 'SYX' boxes at the bottom right of the main window so it is highlighted blue. 3. Now go to View > Sysex. A Sysex View and Scratchpad window will open. 4. Go to the Sysex menu & select "Receive Manual Dump." When selected, you will see a window appear waiting on info from the M9/M13. 5. In Setup Menu of M9 (Press the 1B and 2B buttons at once, then press the MODEL SELECT knob 3 times until the display shows MIDI in the top left) or the M13 (hold the 'Looper Controls' button), select 'Dump All' to backup all your scenes, 'Dump Folder' to backup the current folder, or 'Dump Edit' to backup the one scene you have currently selected. Press the TAP button and the 'MODEL SELECT' knob at the same time on the M9 or just press the 'MODEL SELECT' knob on the M13 to begin the dump. Click 'Done' in MIDI OX when complete. 6. Under the 'Display Window' of MIDI OX, click 'Save As' and save it as a Sysex file type. Loading Scenes & Folders: 1. Run MIDI OX 2. Go to View > Sysex. A Sysex View and Scratchpad window will open. 3. Under the 'Command Window' menu, select 'Load File' and select the Sysex scene or folder file that is saved on your computer. If you are attempting to load an individual scene, it will be recalled to your current scene location, so change to the scene location on the M9/M13 you would like to overwrite. 4. Again, go to the 'Command Window' menu & select 'Send/Rec Sysex.' The display on the M9 (FX Unit 4 on the M13) will flash 'Receiving MIDI - Standby.' Once complete, your scene(s)/folder are now loaded. You do not have to set anything on the M9/M13, it will simply load the individual scene to the current location or load all the scenes in one shot once it receives the file. If you are loading a folder, it will load to the same folder location that it originated from. So, if you saved Folder 3 from the M9/M13, it will load back into the Folder 3 location on the hardware regardless of which Folder you may be looking into. **Note - Using 'Send Sysex' does not work. MIDI OX screen will read 'Sysex Receive' although it is sending to the M9/M13. MAC USERS: Saving Scenes & Folders: 1. Open Sysex Librarian. 2. You should already see your MIDI interface (or 'USB Uno MIDI Interface') listed in the dropdown menu at the top. If not you will need to download & install the latest drivers available from the manufacturer. 3. Click the 'Record Many' button. Use this even when backing up an individual scene. A window will appear showing it is awaiting info from the M9/M13. 4. On the M9/M13 select either 'Dump All' (all scenes), 'Dump Folder' (current folder), or 'Dump Edit' (current scene). Press the TAP button and the 'MODEL SELECT' knob at the same time on the M9 or just press the 'MODEL SELECT' knob on the M13 to begin the dump. 5. Once complete, you can rename 'untitiled.syx' in Sysex Librarian by clicking the name once it is highlighted. Loading Scenes & Folders: 1. Select the Sysex file you wish to load. 2. Click 'Play'. You will see 'Receiving MIDI - Standby' in the display on the M9 (FX Unit 4 on the M13). Your scene(s)/folder is now loaded. Again, if you are loading an individual scene, it will load to the current location you are in, so select the scene you wish to overwrite BEFORE loading the backup file. If you are loading a folder, it will load to the same folder location that it originated from. So, if you saved Folder 3 from the M9/M13, it will load back into the Folder 3 location on the hardware regardless of which Folder you may be looking into. M5 Backup Procedure: With a MIDI interface and a sysex application, you can back up all your M5 presets to your computer. This makes it easy to build a custom preset library, or exchange presets with others. To backup your presets, or to dump the current preset, follow these steps: 1. Turn bottom left PARAMETER KNOB to set your MIDI Channel (Ch. 1-16 or Omni - the default is Ch. 1). 2. Turn the Model Select knob to select DUMP ALL? (to back up all 24 presets) or DUMP PRE? (to back up your current preset). NOTE: There is an error in the M5 Pilot Guide.pdf regarding the following step in the SysEx dump procedures. Please refer to the information here for correct behavior: 3. With your computer set up to record sysex, press and hold ON/OFF while you press down on the MODEL SELECT knob. Repeat this to confirm or press TAP to exit out, if you choose. 4. The M5 will immediately transmit the sysex file to your computer, creating a backup of your Scenes that you can store and recall at any time. To load presets back into your M5, simply transmit the sysex file from your computer into the M5 via MIDI. This will immediately load the data into the M5's memory.

First off, Hey to Everyone. Hopefully y'all can help. I purchased a used M13 from Reverb and it has the most updated Firmware (2.04) It worked perfectly for about 3 months and I did quite a few gigs with it. Recently, when I plug in my guitar and also have it hooked up out to my amp, I'll get a clean signal that runs through. But when I turn on the M13 the signal cuts. I go to select my tuner and it just reads "B" with the chromatic tuner leaning to B flat. Sometimes when I select my tuner, it runs though all the different notes that the tuner can read super fast and then will go blank for a few seconds, then go back to showing "B". My current patch for this has been to turn the unit on, leave it on the tuner setting, walk away for a while and when i come back the tuner is usually blank. I plug my guitar in and it will register notes, and then allow me to use the stompbox fully effects and all. However, yesterday at practice, I let it "warm" up, which took way longer than normal, but it worked, but by the end of the practice I was getting a horrible buzz coming from the amp. This buzz went away once I took the m13 out of line between guitar and amp. It was not an instrument cable issue, I tested that, and it wasnt any of my other pedals i use with the m13. Hopefully I'm not doomed here, but wanted to throw out a line and see if anyone has known a fix or solution to this. Thanks!

Hey, I just bought an M13 with firmware version 2.04 If for example I use the octisynth in fx slot 2 I hear this filter sweep sound. If I then bypass the effect (true bypass mode) and I wanna turn on another effect (even another fx slot) the only thing I can hear coming out of the M13 is the sweeping sound of the octisynth. I read that it's a software thing and it schould have been fixed with a firmware upgrade.. So since I have the latest firmware it should work right? Anybody else with this problem that knows a solution? Many thanks in advance! Gr, Maarten

Hello! I am wondering if it is possible to create a blank preset with no effects or a true bypass without having to double tape my preset button when in screen mode. I am using midi to switch channels on my 5150 iii. I would just like a quick way to switch to my distortion channel and have no effects on it.

Hi, I have recently acquired a line 6 M13. It's great and saving me a ton of wedge not buying individual pedals (for the moment). One thing I want to do is blend the OD/Dist/Fuzz signals with my dry signal so i'm getting Boss LS-2 in the next couple of days so i can stick the M13 in a in on the loops and blend. This however causes me an issue with the effects I would want to run fully wet (synth patches/filters etc). Current signal: Bass > M13 > Laney RB9 (which has a series effect loop) Best guess proposed loop: Bass > LS-2 (a+b mix setting) >M13 (in one LS-2 loop) > LS-2> Amp My question: Is there a clever way i could link these 2 units using the M13 effects loop and/or my amp effects loop to isolate the just one(more more) bank of effects to be blended with the rest wet? I want the flexibility but without having to change cables between songs. Caveat: I'm new to all this multi effect wizardry, so be gentle. Thanks for your help Cheers

Can you use an M13 to change channels on Spider 4 as if it were a FBV? I doubt it from searching around and looking through manuals, but I am hopeful that there's a way to possible do it. Thanks for any insight or help :)

So I've seen these other stompbox/ midi brand boards and there are companies that make magnetic labels you can put on those boards to know what effect you have on which pedal. I searched and searched for something similar for the m13 stompbox but nothing. So I spent a few hour rigging up my own labels. I used magnetic printer paper. Got pictures of regular guitar pedals and edited them down to a 5/4 ratio. And printed them out. I'll post a picture of the finished product tomorrow
