  1. M5 Backup Procedure: With a MIDI interface and a sysex application, you can back up all your M5 presets to your computer. This makes it easy to build a custom preset library, or exchange presets with others. To backup your presets, or to dump the current preset, follow these steps: 1. Turn bottom left PARAMETER KNOB to set your MIDI Channel (Ch. 1-16 or Omni - the default is Ch. 1). 2. Turn the Model Select knob to select DUMP ALL? (to back up all 24 presets) or DUMP PRE? (to back up your current preset). NOTE: There is an error in the M5 Pilot Guide.pdf regarding the following step in the SysEx dump procedures. Please refer to the information here for correct behavior: 3. With your computer set up to record sysex, press and hold ON/OFF while you press down on the MODEL SELECT knob. Repeat this to confirm or press TAP to exit out, if you choose. 4. The M5 will immediately transmit the sysex file to your computer, creating a backup of your Scenes that you can store and recall at any time. To load presets back into your M5, simply transmit the sysex file from your computer into the M5 via MIDI. This will immediately load the data into the M5's memory.
  2. Hey all, I know this is a common topic but I still haven't found a satisfying answer so I'm going to ask it... How can I remove the tone coloring that occurs on the HD500X when in stompbox mode and all effects (and amp models) are OFF? I can tell when I go to the tuner and use the bypass mode that with all effects off, the 500X is still affecting my tone. In tuner bypass mode, the signal to amp is dry and unaffected do the 500x *should* be capable of not coloring my signal. In regular play, with all fx off and the amp model disabled, the tone is darker and the signal is weaker. This is really frustrating because what I wanted the 500X is for it's stompbox effects not an amp modeler. I know about the 4 cable method and using the modeling for the preamp toy amp, but that will be a last resort. I just really want the effects and my amp's tone! Please help! 3. Hey there, its my first thread her so be gental :D Im asking myself: could Line 6 make an future update to unlock switch 1 and 7 to be used in stompbox mode in the Helix LT. I mean in the Helix Floor its done. So they have the firmware for that. The only difference would be to place 2 additional "cubes" at the screen. That would make them a little bit smaller but i wouldnt have a problem with that. (i quickly made a picture that shows what i mean, not the prettiest but its just for demonstation purpose) What do you think about it? Cause i would love to get 2 additional stomp switches. 8 are still not enough for me. But just because of 2 switches buy a helix foor ?! dont like that thought. PLS Line 6 if you read this make it happen and you would make me and lot of others very happy! greetings from germany Jonathan
  4. Q: How come my DL4 pedal says “9V AC” for Power Requirements, but the DC-DL4’s output is rated 12V DC? A: The DL4 was originally designed to be battery powered, or to optionally be powered by the Line 6 PX-2G power supply (which was a 9V AC output). Due to Level VI power supply efficiency requirements in North America, the PX-2G was discontinued in North America. However, the DL4, as well as the DM4, MM4, FM4 and AM4 stompboxes, can also work with a center-positive 12V DC supply, such as the DC-DL4 power supply.
  5. Total Looper Recording Time: 30 seconds (60 seconds with half-speed enabled) Ins and Outs: Stereo Input through two 1/4" mono inputs (L and R) and stereo output through two 1/4" mono outputs (L and R). All inputs and outputs are unbalanced instrument level. Additionally, two 1/4" jacks for 2 expression pedals Expression Pedal: Use Line 6 EX-1 or an expression pedal with a passive 10K ohm mono linear taper pot, using a standard 1/4 inch mono instrument cable Power Adapter: included Line 6 PX-2 only (Specs: 9V, 2000mA, center tip positive, 2.5mm diameter). Q: How many of each type of effect is there on the M9? A: Distortions/Comps/EQ/Volume: 30 Modulations: 22 Filter/Pitch: 26 Delays: 19 Reverbs: 12 Q: How do I register my M9? A: You can register any Line 6 product to your account here: Registration. For more detailed registration help, please see the Product Registration F.A.Q. . Q: What is the warranty on the M9? A: Twelve months from the date of purchase. Any Authorized Line 6 Service Center you visit will need you to provide a copy of the purchase receipt to validate date for warranty processing. Please be sure to have those materials ready, should you need to get your unit serviced under warranty. Troubleshooting & Service Q: How do I perform a Factory Reset on the M9? A: You can perform a factory reset by entering the Setup screen (press both B1 and B2 at once) and navigating to the Screen with the MIDI, GATE, Display header and turning the Model Select knob until the corresponding parameter displays RST FACT? You can then press down on the TAP footswitch then the Model Select Knob together twice to reset the unit. You can also re-install the flash memory to return the M9 to factory settings. Q: What is a "Scene"? A: A "scene" is a pedal board arrangement on your Line 6 M9 Stompbox Modeler with 6 available effects, up to 3 at once. Q: How many scenes are there and how do I access them? A: With the 2.01 update, you can create and save up to 6 different scenes in one Scene Folder. With 4 Scene Folders, you get 24 total scenes on the M9! Press 3A and the TAP button at the same time to access the scenes and turn the MODEL SELECT knob to access the additional folders. Q: Can I backup my scenes to my computer?A: You can backup your scenes via MIDI. Check out the M9/M13 Scene Backup document. Q: Which expression pedals can I use with the M9? A: We recommend using the Line 6 EX-1 expression pedal. You can also use any other expression pedal containing a 10k Ohm Potentiometer. Expression pedals allow you to change stompbox controls using your feet so you can adjust the sound while you play. On the fly, you can modify the delay time and feedback, speed of your tremolo, or sweep the pitch on the Pitch Bender effect. Connect an expression pedal to your M5 Stompbox modeler. Start with the pedal in the toe position. Once you have your effect parameters settings as desired rock the expression pedal to its heel position. Now set your parameters to your desired settings. As you move your expression pedal from heel to toe, you'll see all of the adjusted parameters move between these settings. All parameters affected by an expression pedal will show a pixel notch at the top indicating a parameter's setting for the toe position of the pedal. You'll also see a notch at the bottom that indicates a parameter's settingwith the expression pedal in the heel position. Additionally, if you don't want a parameter adjusted by the expression pedal, set the parameter's knob to where you want it with the heel down, then do the same with the heel up.
  6. M5/M9/M13 BACKUP INSTRUCTIONS *** This procedure is also explained in the M9 Advanced User's Guide and M13 Advanced User's Guide REQUIRED: A MIDI sequencer app such as Cubase or a sysex app -- if you don't have a sysex app installed, do a Google search for MIDI Ox (Windows) or Sysex Librarian (Mac) then download one or the other and install it. And ONE of the following: A MIDI interface that connects to your computer via USB (download the current Driver for it if you don't have it installed) & 2 MIDI cables OR A MIDI - USB interface such as the M-Audio Uno that comes with attached MIDI cables. You may need to download & install the latest driver from the manufacturer for this device. When your MIDI interface, Driver and sysex app are ready to go, follow PROCEDURE instructions below. Windows: Saving Scenes & Folders: 1. Run MIDI OX. You can do so from Start > Program Files > MIDI OX. 2. Set "Pass Sysex" & "Start Display" to On by clicking on the the 'REC' & 'SYX' boxes at the bottom right of the main window so it is highlighted blue. 3. Now go to View > Sysex. A Sysex View and Scratchpad window will open. 4. Go to the Sysex menu & select "Receive Manual Dump." When selected, you will see a window appear waiting on info from the M9/M13. 5. In Setup Menu of M9 (Press the 1B and 2B buttons at once, then press the MODEL SELECT knob 3 times until the display shows MIDI in the top left) or the M13 (hold the 'Looper Controls' button), select 'Dump All' to backup all your scenes, 'Dump Folder' to backup the current folder, or 'Dump Edit' to backup the one scene you have currently selected. Press the TAP button and the 'MODEL SELECT' knob at the same time on the M9 or just press the 'MODEL SELECT' knob on the M13 to begin the dump. Click 'Done' in MIDI OX when complete. 6. Under the 'Display Window' of MIDI OX, click 'Save As' and save it as a Sysex file type. Loading Scenes & Folders: 1. Run MIDI OX 2. Go to View > Sysex. A Sysex View and Scratchpad window will open. 3. Under the 'Command Window' menu, select 'Load File' and select the Sysex scene or folder file that is saved on your computer. If you are attempting to load an individual scene, it will be recalled to your current scene location, so change to the scene location on the M9/M13 you would like to overwrite. 4. Again, go to the 'Command Window' menu & select 'Send/Rec Sysex.' The display on the M9 (FX Unit 4 on the M13) will flash 'Receiving MIDI - Standby.' Once complete, your scene(s)/folder are now loaded. You do not have to set anything on the M9/M13, it will simply load the individual scene to the current location or load all the scenes in one shot once it receives the file. If you are loading a folder, it will load to the same folder location that it originated from. So, if you saved Folder 3 from the M9/M13, it will load back into the Folder 3 location on the hardware regardless of which Folder you may be looking into. **Note - Using 'Send Sysex' does not work. MIDI OX screen will read 'Sysex Receive' although it is sending to the M9/M13. MAC USERS: Saving Scenes & Folders: 1. Open Sysex Librarian. 2. You should already see your MIDI interface (or 'USB Uno MIDI Interface') listed in the dropdown menu at the top. If not you will need to download & install the latest drivers available from the manufacturer. 3. Click the 'Record Many' button. Use this even when backing up an individual scene. A window will appear showing it is awaiting info from the M9/M13. 4. On the M9/M13 select either 'Dump All' (all scenes), 'Dump Folder' (current folder), or 'Dump Edit' (current scene). Press the TAP button and the 'MODEL SELECT' knob at the same time on the M9 or just press the 'MODEL SELECT' knob on the M13 to begin the dump. 5. Once complete, you can rename 'untitiled.syx' in Sysex Librarian by clicking the name once it is highlighted. Loading Scenes & Folders: 1. Select the Sysex file you wish to load. 2. Click 'Play'. You will see 'Receiving MIDI - Standby' in the display on the M9 (FX Unit 4 on the M13). Your scene(s)/folder is now loaded. Again, if you are loading an individual scene, it will load to the current location you are in, so select the scene you wish to overwrite BEFORE loading the backup file. If you are loading a folder, it will load to the same folder location that it originated from. So, if you saved Folder 3 from the M9/M13, it will load back into the Folder 3 location on the hardware regardless of which Folder you may be looking into.
  7. So new hx effects, love it! But there's a problem with stompbox mode. When i have the switches set to both touch and press the unit switches spontaneously to pedal edit mode, this is incredibly frustrating since either i can't use stompbox mode at all or i cant use the touch function on the unit which is manageble but annoying. Is anyobe else having this problem? Is there a solution or is this a problem with the latest update? Cheers!
  8. Does anyone know how to determine the date of manufacture with Line 6 DL4's? I have two that I'm looking to find out about.
  9. Hi, I got an M5 Stompbox Modeler for the pas 2 years and i really like it. Problem is, since the past few months, i have a problem. If the M5 is on and the effect (lets take heavy distortion for this example) is activated (which means the red light on the on/off is there) the sound is completely fine. BUT if i just press on the ON/OFF button, i'm supposed to hear my clean guitar settings that is coming out of my amp (its pretty much like that for every pedal in the world lol pedal effect off=amp's sound) The problem is that when the effect if OFF, i can't hear anything like if my guitar is no plugged. All my cables work fine (i tested every single one of them) and its only when the effect is OFF that it doesnt work. So i can't use it on stage now because if i just turn off my distortion, i dont have any sound coming from the amp :P If anyone can help me thatd be cool :) (btw i'm not an expert in electronic stuff so telling me codes and stuff will just confuse me xD just explain what you mean and that should be good :) )
  10. Hi I have a certain problem with the noise gate on my M5, I found the separate setup under dist group, but each preset has its own noise gate on additional setup (page 2). Now the manual says that I can access the page 2 setup by pushing the model select knob once on the preset. I did exactly that and it just switches thru effect groups. Can anyone advice?
  11. Hi, Can someone help me to get the same sound as the Boss DS-2 for my HELIX board? I love this pedal but unfortunately it broke down last week.. Now i love to have te same sound in my Helix, so i can import it in deferent presets. Thanks in advance!
  12. Hi everyone, what about something a little bit smaller than POD? ;) http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Amp-Preamp-Stompbox-with-effects-loop-and-headphone-output/836960-23508
  13. my helix arrives tomorrow, so perhaps this will become obvious once I start fiddling with the unit, BUT.. What are the primary differences between the two modes: preset & stombox?? From an application standpoint, I mean. I would love to have 5 or 6 FS assigned to different amp stacks. None of these amp stacks will have any fx built-in. I would also like 2 or 3 FS assigned to my most used delay & verb. I plan on running most of my spacial & modulation fx through the fx loops to my eventide h9's...using the helix mainly for different amp tones. I'm in a gigging cover band, & I'm trying to envision what type of tap-dance I will have to do during a show.
  14. What's the component value of the R32 resistor right about SW4? Had a bit of a boo-boo when replacing a footswitch. Thanks!
  15. Hey everyone I think the topic title says enough. How do I conect stompboxes such as the behringer echo machine (to give an example) or other simualar stompboxes to my spider jam amp? I like the sounds and fx on the amp it self, but I would like to explore more options by adding more pedals. I'm kinda new to these stompboxes, I don't own one and I never had before? And just before I buy one I want to be sure it's possible to connect them on this amp. If it is possible can someone explaine how to do that? Thank you Greetz
  16. Anybody has any idea if the Amplifi FX100 has stompbox mode? E.g., Switch A will trigger an OD, B will switch amp channels, C to trigger a Chorus & so on...
  17. What are yhe possible settings HD400 combined with separate stompboxes. Is that the best by using the FX send return, and how should that work ?

Please be sure to have those materials ready, should you need to get your unit serviced under warranty. Troubleshooting & Service Q: How do I perform a Factory Reset on the M13? A: You can perform a factory reset by entering the Setup screen and turning the Model Select knob on FX UNIT 4 until the corresponding parameter displays ‘RST FACT?’ You can then press down on the Model Select Knob twice to reset the unit. You can also re-install the flash memory to return the M13 to factory settings. Q: Does Line 6 M13 Stompbox Modeler include guitar amp or cab modeling? A: Nope. Just stompboxes. Q: Will the looper still work while I'm changing sounds and scenes? A: Absolutely. Once you have captured your looped creation, leave it repeating and go back to using any of the effects. Q: Where's the tuner? A: Press and hold down the TAP TEMPO button to activate the tuner. When activated, the tuner shows up in the LCD. By default, once the tuner is activated all signals are muted. Q: What is a "Scene"? A: A "scene" is a pedal board arrangement on your Line 6 M13 Stompbox Modeler with 12 available effects, up to 4 at once. Q: How does Latch Scene mode work? A: You can switch between the different Scenes (presets) of the M13 with a single button press. You must first go into the M13’s SETUP menu (hold the Looper Controls button for a few seconds), and in the FX3 screen, turn the middle knob in the bottom row clockwise to change the SCENE mode to ‘LATCH’. Now exit the SETUP menu (hit Looper Controls again) and press the SCENES switch to view the different Scenes of effects. Now, when you press on each of the Scenes footswitches, it will call up the Scene, but you will remain in the Scenes view allowing you to change to a different Scene of effects with a single button press. Q: How many scenes are there and how do I access them? A: With the 2.01 update, you can create and save up to 12 different scenes in one Scene Folder. With 4 Scene Folders, you get 48 total scenes on the M13! Press the scenes button to access the scenes and turn the MODEL SELECT knob on FX Unit 1 to access the additional folders. Q: Can I backup my scenes to my computer? A: You can backup your scenes via MIDI. Check out the M13 Scene Backup document. Q: Where can I get the factory scenes for my M13? A: You can regain the factory scenes on the M13 following the reset procedure described above, or you can download the individual scenes from the Institute of Noise website. Q: Which expression pedals can I use with the M13? A: We recommend using the Line 6 EX-1 or the Mission Engineering EP1-L6 expression pedals. You can also use any other expression pedal containing a 10k Ohm Potentiometer. Expression pedals allow you to change stompbox controls using your feet so you can adjust the sound while you play. On the fly, you can modify the length of your delay time, dial up the reverb mix, or change the depth of your tremolo. Q: One of my LCD screen's color appears to be different than the other LCD's that have the same model family selected. Can I adjust the color to match the other displays (i.e. I have 4 cascading Delay models and screen #2 appears to be not quite as "green" as the other 3)? A: Yes. Power off the unit. Hold down the "Model Select" knob of LCD screen #3. Power on the unit. You can now adjust the relative color of each LCD display screen relative to the other ones.
  19. Q: Will the Stompbox Modelers work with other instruments besides guitar? Yes, the Stomp Box Modelers will work with just about any "instrument level" device including bass guitar. Q: How can I reset my DL4 to the factory presets? A: You can reset your pedal to the factory settings by powering it up with the A and D footswitches held down - the power is turned on and off on the modeler pedals by inserting a plug into the left mono input jack. Q: How can I set up my DL4 in an effects chain? What kind of power supply does the DL4 require? A: For information on setting up your DL4 in an effects chain or power supply information, please click here. Q: Does the DL4 have reverb? A: The DL4 delay Modeler does not have reverb. It has 15 different delay models and a loop sampler. Q: What are some features and functions of the looper? A: The DL4 Loop Sampler function operates at 14 seconds to summed mono outputs at regular speed, and 28 seconds at half speed. A loop sampled and played at normal speed, then switched to half speed, will drop the pitch an octave. A loop sampled and played at half speed will play back at normal pitch. If the speed is then returned to normal, the pitch will be raised an octave. When the DL4 is in 1/2 speed mode, the sampling rate and consequently the bandwidth have been halfed. This shouldn't be very noticeable though as this halfed bandwidth is still wider than most standard electric guitar amps. If you were using the unit with a very clean, bright electric guitar (or acoustic guitar)and monitoring through studio monitors, you may notice the change in bandwidth. While in "Loop Sampler" mode, the DL4 will receive signal through each of its two inputs simultaneously. The input signal will then be summed to mono, sampled and then sent to the two outputs. In order to sample both inputs separately (or in stereo), the unit would have required two separate sample processors and a lot more RAM. Needless to say, this would have increased the cost of the unit dramatically. All other DL4 "Delay Models" will however have a discrete left and right stereo output. Q: How can I use an EX-1 Expression pedal with my DL4? A: For information on using an EX-1 expression pedal with the DL4, please click here. Q: How is the Expression pedal implemented in the loop/sampler portion of the DL4? Can you adjust the feedback level of the loop (so loops start to fade), or just the mix of loop in the output signal? A: The expression pedal works the same way in the Loop Sampler mode as it does in the regular delay mode. You can set the toe-down position of the pedal to one setting of the knobs (excluding the model selector knob) and the heel-down position to another setting. For example you could have the toe-down position set for the loop mix (mix knob) at maximum, the delay level (tweez) at medium, the delay modulation (tweak)at minimum, the delay repeats at half-way, and the delay time set fast (say 3 o'clock). You could then put the pedal in the heel-down position and set the knobs for the loop level at minimum, the delay level at maximum, the modulation at minimum, the repeats at minimum and the delay time long (say 9 o'clock). Now when you're playing (and the play/stop button is switched on), putting the pedal in the toe down position will give you the loop at full volume, pre-loop delay that is of medium volume volume with no modulation and a fast time. When you switch to heel-down, you'd get no loop (even with the play/stop button switched on)with a long single delay that is very loud. Yes it will remember your settings after you turn the DL4 off. The loop sampler can either play the loop indefinitely (until you hit the stop button)or play it one time only then stop (Button C). It will not trail off on it's own. You would have to use the expression pedal to ride it's level. Q: On the stomp-box modelers, how do I turn on the alternate (delay trails) bypass and what does it do? A: Alternate Bypass will allow the delay to remain in the signal (fade off into the distance) when the pedal is turned off, where True Bypass will stop the delay as soon as the pedal is turned off. Alternate bypass mode should prevent any drop in volume level when the pedal is engaged. In addition, it will not cut off delay trails in a long delay setting. To switch between true bypass and alternate bypass mode, you will need to hold down the a and c buttons at the same time for at least three seconds while inserting the left mono input(which will turn on the unit) to initialize alternate bypass. It will remember the selected bypass mode. Since it's a simple toggle, if you want to switch back, just repeat the process. Q: I'm having a hard time getting my bass loops to sync up with my drum tracks. It almost sounds as though the bass loops are slowing down. Is that possible? Or are there some tricks to getting the loops right on the money? A: What you are experiencing is caused by the fact that it is very difficult to record a perfectly timed loop. Even if the original loop is off by the slightest amount of time, that time will be compounded with every repeat of the loop. Example: if the end of the loop is 1ms off, after 10 loops the guitar parts are now 10ms faster or slower than the drum parts. After 15 loops it will have a 15ms difference etc...You may need to re-sample the loop if after using it 6-8 times it doesn't match perfectly. With practice, you will get the feel of the correctly timed loop. Q: Can I make the sampled loop louder without overpowering my guitar? A: While in the LOOP SAMPLER mode, a simple turn of the MIX knob should enable you to control the level of the initial loops. Also, using the DL4 with a Line 6 EX-1 Expression Pedal will enable you to "morph" between two different MIX settings on the fly, from the floor, in real time. Simply place the EX-1 in the "heel down" position and program the pedal to your first desired setting. Next, put the EX-1 in the toe down position and program your second desired setting. Now, move the pedal back and forth and morph away baby! More information on the DL4 can be found at our Stomp Box Modelers product page. Q: What is the "suppressed carrier" frequency of the ring modulator patch? Is it fixed, or does it change with the variable waveform control (tweak or tweez)? A: It is variable and controlled via the tweak knob. 0 = sine, 10 = square wave. Q: How do I get the "Alvin Lee" dotted eighth note rhythm or "U2/Edge" delay from the DL4 pedal? A: The Alvin Lee Dotted Eighth Note Rhythm: The "Alvin Lee" sound is a single slap-back repeat. To set it up: 1. Tap the dotted eighth rhythm into the Digital Delay model. 2. Set Repeats, Tweak and Tweez to zero and the mix to 1:00. It may seem difficult to tap that rhythm in with your foot, but with a little practice, it becomes pretty easy. There is no preset delay value of a dotted eighth rhythm in the Rhythmic Delay model. The "U2 / Edge" Delay: The "U2/Edge" sound has 1.5 to 2 repeats on each of the stereo delays. To set this up: 1. Set the delay model to stereo delay and the unit automatically defaults to the "U2" sound. The Edge delay is actually a dotted eighth rhythm on the left side and a quarter note rhythm on the right side. The way to adjust the delay to this sound is to set the delay time to 11:00, repeats to 7:30, Tweak to 11:30, Tweez to 7:30 and mix to 1:00. If you want the tempo to be faster, just move the Delay Time and Tweak knobs a little counter-clockwise. You will have to make adjustments by ear to get that perfect "dotted eighth and quarter note" sound. The default Tap Tempo rhythm for the models is a quarter note. It is not possible to change this default rhythm. The only solution would be to save the presets with a different rhythm. This would allow for six presets if you used the optional expression pedal.
  20. NOTE: Because they also use 10k pots, the EX-1 Expression Pedal can be substituted with the Mission EP1-L6 or SP1-L6H Expression Pedal. Q: How do I use an EX-1 Expression Pedal with a Stomp Box Modeling Pedal? A: Power off your stomp box modeler by unplugging the left/mono input. Next, plug in your expression pedal and set the expression pedal to the full heel down position. Plug the left/mono input back in and dial up a sound you like. Now press the expression pedal forward to the toe down position, and set one of more of your knobs to another setting. Rock back and forth on your expression pedal and you'll hear your sound blend between the two sound settings you just made. Store this sound into one of your pedals memories and the toe down and heel settings will be saved as well. Example of EX-1 connected to a DL4 Modeling Pedal: - Move EX-1 to heel down, adjust the delay settings on DL4. - Then move the expression pedal to toe. - Now change only the parameters that you want to be affected. - Heel to toe sweeps between those two settings. Q: Do I need to reprogram my changes with the EX-1 every time I plug the pedal in? A: You do not need to restart your effect unit everytime you want to reset the expression pedal. Your expression pedal settings will remain the way you set them up regardless of effect knob settings. Your expression pedal settings can be saved to the effects parameters saved by the footswitches. Q: Can I use one EX-1 Expression Pedal to control two modeling (4x4) pedals? A: There are a couple ways to approach running two modeling pedals with a single EX-1. Both methods require modification (as the ohm resistance will be cut in half): - Replace the 10k pot in the EX-1 with a 5k pot, and use a mono-split instrument cable to each modeling pedal. - Remove the second jack hole cover (labeled "Output") and install a second 1/4" mono jack here. Replace the existing mono 10K pot with a double-ganged or stereo 10K pot. Install the leads from each side of the pot to it's own dedicated output jack, then use one mono 1/4" cable per jack connected to each expression pedal input on the 4x4 pedal(s). Q: How can I get replacement stickers for my Stomp Box Modeling pedal? A: The stickers for the MM4 and DL4 are attached to this document for download and printing. DL4/MM4 labels are also found at https://shop-us.line6.com/hardware/parts-and-accessories/dl4-mm4-tweak-tweez-label/.
  21. Q: What real life pedals are modeled on the DM4 Distortion Modeler? A: All of the pedals that are modeled are descibed in detail in the DM4 owners manual. You can view or download the owners manuals for all Line6 products at the Line6 website Q: What are the factory presets for the DM4? A: The factory presets for the DM4 are as follows: A: Line 6 Drive B: Line 6 Distortion C: Sub Octave Fuzz D: Jet Fuzz
  22. Tonecore Pedals You can set up any of the Line 6 Tonecore pedals the same way that you would any other stomp box. Plug your guitar into the input of the pedal and plug the output of the pedal into the next step in your chain, whether it be another pedal or an amp. If you are using many pedals, you may need to arrange the order to get the best sound, especially if you have boutique pedals with very high output or stereo effect pedals that require a stereo input/output (please see the information below regarding common effect chain setups). Once you have your pedal(s) setup, give it some power either from the Line 6 DC-1 adapter or a 9 volt battery, stomp on it to turn it on, and ROCK OUT!!! Note: All Line 6 Tonecore pedals are designed for instrument level input, but have no problem being placed between the guitar and the amplifier or in an amplifier's effect loop. Q: Are the ToneCore pedals "True Bypass" when I disengage the effect? A: No, the Tonecore pedal will still have the audio signal running through the processor, but you will not hear the effect. Common Effect Chain Order: Pedals are often set up in the following categories from the guitar input to the amp: Dynamic control: Constrictor (compressor) Filter control: Otto Filter, FM-4 Overdrive/Distortion: Crunchtone, Dr. Distorto, Uber Metal, DM-4 Modulation: Liqua-Flange (Flanger), Space Chorus, Tap Tremolo, Roto Machine, MM-4 Time based: Echo Park (Delay), DL-4, Verbzilla (Reverb) Please remember that this is only a guide, and many players will vary this setup order depending on personal preferences. You can find more information on effect pedal chains at http://www.harmonycentral.com/articles. Other tips for getting a better tone: - Use the highest quality cables you can afford - Use the shortest cable lengths possible between units - Confirm that all of your power needs are coming from the same source (to avoid ground loops) Q: Is there any way to combine sounds on a Line 6 Stompbox or Tonecore? For example, what if I want some chorus and tremolo at the same time? A: The Line 6 pedals are designed to play a single effect model at a time. Due to the high processing demands of modulation circuits, having the option of using more than one of the effects at time would have compromised the processing power dedicated to each effect and would have resulted in lower quality sound. Q: How can I do a factory reset on my Stomp Box Modeling Pedal? A: Have the power supply connected and press & hold A & D ('Tap' on the DL-4) button while plugging in your guitar to the left mono input. Q: Are the Four-Button Stomp Box Modeling pedals True Bypass" when I disengage the effect? A: The Four-Button Stomp Box Modeling pedals are "true bypass", meaning that the audio signal is sent directly from the input jack to the output jack. You can disable the "True Bypass" by holding the first and the third buttons (from the left) when powering the unit (inputing instrument cable into the left Mono input) to hear the effect after the effect is disengaged (i.e. trailing delays). Q: When I activate a channel on my Stompbox Modeler, I get the same sound no matter which model I have selected on the dial. A: Line 6 Stompbox Modelers use a combination of "live" controls and stored settings so it can be a little confusing a first. When you press one of the preset buttons, you are recalling the stored sound saved in that location regardless of where the model select knob is positioned. When you rotate the model select knob, you switch to that model and the associated control positions for it are recalled. The rest of the controls become active as you adjust them. Once you have a sound you like be sure to save it to one of the channels because once you switch to another channel, it's gone. Q: I am noticing a volume boost/loss when I engage my Four button modeling pedal. Why is this? A: The "True Bypass" mode will not have any noticeable effect on the signal path, so there will be very little change in overall volume when the pedal is disengaged. If the pedal is engaged at all time (i.e. allowing trailing delays) you may notice a slight increase in volume as the pedal is always active. These type of volume effects can be minimized by using the previous tone tips recommended and/or using a looping system (i.e. Voodoo Lab's Pedal Switcher or GCX) for larger pedal configurations. Q: How should I power my Line 6 Pedals? A: We recommend using the Line 6 DC-1 for the Tonecore pedals, PX-2 AC Power Supply for the 4-button stompboxes, or the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power units for powering pedals. The Pedal Power 2 Plus can power up to 6 Tonecore pedals and two Modeling pedals at once, and the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power AC can power up to 4 Modeling pedals. Other power supplies may not deliver consistent voltage and are not supported by Line 6. Q: What are the specifications for Line 6 power supplies? A: Power Supply F.A.Q. Q: Can I run my Line 6 Modelling pedal in a parallel or series FX loop? A: Line 6 does not support the use of any Line 6 Four Button modeling pedal in an effect loop as the Line 6 Modeling pedals are designed for instrument level (guitar/bass output) to be inserted between the instrument and the amplifier. The signal strength of a line level signal (i.e. an effect loop) can cause the input buffers to fail. Q: What if I have a level control on my FX Loop? A: It is up to the player to determine how to set the effect loop level according to personal taste, but Line 6 does not recommend placing any Line 6 Four Button modeling pedal in an effect loop. The send would need to be reduced to approximate a guitar level signal (i.e., -22db, 1.5v pp max, etc). The problem with this is that you rely on the modeling pedal for make up gain, which if you tailored the input would result in higher noise floor. If a loop is the only desirable way to connect a Line 6 Modeling pedal, you will need a -22db pad on the front end and a +20db buffer on the output to make up the gain. Q: Can I run a tuner out of an unused output of a Line 6 pedal? A: There is no technical reason why this would not work, although some users have noticed noise in their system when this is done. Q: Are the Stompbox Modelers MIDI compatible? Are they able to exchange patches and/or other information with the POD and other Line 6 products? A: In order for two digital devices to communicate with one another, i.e. exchange patches and/or other MIDI information, they must both have MIDI In and Out capabilities. The "Stomp Box Modelers" do not feature MIDI compatibility; thus they are unable to communicate with other MIDI devices.
