  1. You don't need a receipt to register a Helix. Just the serial number from the unit itself! You would need a receipt for warranty, but not for registration which gets you access to the ticket system. This is an odd problem... and it seems like you have gone over the usual suspects! The only thing I don't see mentioned (I think) is more related to power. If the voltage isn't stable or there is a ground fault the Helix may behave erratically. If it's connected to any power strips or extensions, remove them and try directly to the wall plug. (although for general use I do recommend keeping it on strip with surge protection) Try different circuits within the home... Aside from that... I think you need to register that Helix and open a support ticket. Again... no receipt is needed for that!
  2. The only caveat I'd like to add is that the Line Out on the MV50 already has cabinet simulation... so in theory would be adding a cabinet to a cabinet. That doesn't mean it won't work, it just isn't conventional. That works.... but keep in mind if you are placing "send 1 > return 2" back to back on the HX... you could replace those with a single "Loop" which handles both duties within one block.. Since that frees up a block, you also have the option of running your external OD in the 2nd loop. Is it just a preference to run your ambient effect before the amp? Most would run those after - but there is no right or wrong. @rd2rk is correct, you actually do. If you drop the IR to the lower path and PAN the upper/lower paths appropriately one output would include the IR, the other would not! If you don't need that option don't worry about it, but it is there.
  3. I don't remember a time that I have needed a backup... not with amps, or modelers - including the Helix. I also don't remember a time that I haven't had a back up ready to go.... not with amps, or modelers - including the Helix. At local gigs I carry my old POD XT Live as a backup loaded with tones that are more than good enough to get me through a night. On tours, I rent/carry a 2nd Helix which is inline and ready to go into action within seconds! IMO, it likely won't! I have 100% confidence in my Helix LT.... but I still carry a backup for insurance. Insurance always seems like a waste of money until you actually need it!
  4. Updating the firmware does not update HX Edit... You still need to download and install the latest version of HX Edit!
  5. IMO... Ditch the computer and try doing snapshots on the Stomp itself rather than through HX Edit. If it works there, but fails through HX Edit... then it's likely a Big Sur problem. if it doesn't work on the Stomp itself then it's something completely different. Silly question but I've seen this overlooked many times... Are you sure you assigned the appropriate controls to "snapshots"? (EG: A parameter cannot be controlled by snapshot until it's been assigned to do so)
  6. The V3 updates resets the global settings... the suggestion above to restore your old global settings is the best option. But if you just want to find the offending setting, it is right here... Global Settings > Footswitches > Snapshot Mode Switches. From the manual: When set to “Auto Return,” Helix LT returns to the previous footswitch mode after selecting a snapshot. When set to “Manual Return,” Helix LT stays in Snapshot footswitch mode until you press FS6 (MODE). If you want to stay in Snapshot mode once you are there you will want to set this to "manual return"
  7. This is not my experience... not even close. The Helix has been the most "set it and forget it" piece of gear I've owned. It sounds the same every time I turn it on, the most consistently great tones I've had in my 40+ years of tours/gigs. If a user doesn't know how to get certain sounds, I can see them getting frustrated with option overload but how is that the fault of a modeler? For those of us that know what we are after and how to get it... it's a piece of cake!
  8. ^^^ this ^^^ But remember, once you add the stereo version, everything that follows the reverb must also be stereo!

    Preamps?

Was that directed to me or @dacop13? I run the Deluxe Normal Channel (or the new Princeton) preamp model into a Celestion Ruby IR, direct to FOH/Monitors/FRFR. Others may feel very different. This is just my preference.

    Preamps?

Yes, quite regularly. If the power amp section of an amp is not a big part of the behavior/tone of that amp, I will often just use the pre-amp versions. I tend to get a beefier tone from the pre-amps alone. There are notable exceptions... VOX Amps and Tweed amps in particular require the full amp models and I also prefer the PLEXI that way. My current live rig is based around a Deluxe Normal Channel pre-amp and a Celestion Ruby IR. I'm experimenting with replacing the Deluxe with the new Princeton pre-amp and it's sounds great (better) here in my studio, but there are no gigs to test it in right now. For reference... I go direct to FOH/Monitors and also an FRFR when needed.
  11. The Helix includes a handful of great post-production style effects (Tube Mic Pre, LA Studio Comp, 3 Band Comp, Parametric EQ, etc... ) ... and although I agree I would like to see more, I don't feel limited by only having what we already have. Why did you move the goal posts with #3? Throughout this thread you are talking about console/tape saturation, yet here you bring up "power amp saturation". FYI: If you use the full model of an Amp in the Helix... the power amp saturation for each amp is modelled as well. BUT - this has nothing to do with post production effects... it's raw amp tone! I somewhat disagree with bullet #2: Just before saturation occurs on a TAPE or TUBE device, it is preceded by compression! "First it compresses, then it Saturates". You can get the compression feel with an LA Studio Comp.... but it won't saturate! Currently... for post production saturation the Tube Mic Pre is your best bet. It simulates a console input, and can be pushed in a similar manner. Just like a console, you push it to far, and it's melts down in anger - LOL! A little goes a long way with this one! IMO... only when the source is acoustic or a MIC. On electric presets I would add this after the CAB/MIC... as it would appear in a real setup.
  12. "Questioning Policies"? It's LAW, not policy. You can't use another company's registered trademark. It really is that simple I suspect Line 6 doesn't use the real names because they wanted to stay in business, not because they thought it would benefit them to come up with clever/cute names. Pages 29 - 38 in the new Helix 3.0 Manual lists the models. The 3rd column of each is the "based on *" description. You will notice that every time (catch that... EVERY TIME) a word or phrase that is a registered trademark is mentioned it includes either the R symbol. It's law, not policy. Page 45 of the manual is a full disclaimer and pays respect to every company involved. Silly? Scary? IMO, that would better describe a world without these laws.
  13. Nobody said this isn't normal... but we also had no idea of your setup and what you were trying to do until you posted this level of detail. I can see the problem you face. Sadly, none of the Split blocks have level options or you could have used that. I see you posted the idea to ideascale.. I supported it with an upvote. https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/extra-input-level-parameter-for-delay-and-reverb-blocks/1003876-23508
  14. Are you trying to control the LEVEL of Delay and Reverb with the EXP pedals? If so, I do exactly that with no input levels or added volume blocks. Just assign the EXP to the MIX parameter on the delay or reverb in question then set the MIN/MAX levels accordingly.

    Power Cabs?

IMO... your HS7 Studio Monitors in a 12x12 room is about as perfect a fit you will find. My studio room is about the same size, and I run the same size studio monitors. It's perfect for my needs. Live gigs or a practice room is a different story... given your options I would lean toward 2 x 112 Powercab+. Lighter to move around Better options for coverage and stereo spread They serve as a backup to each other.
  16. You could try a full factory reset, then either restore a backup or import your setlist again. These are your options.... 3 & 4 Test Mode 5 & 6 Global reset 7 & 8 Reset setlists to factory, Keep IRs 8 & 9 Reset setlists to factory, Clear IRs 9 & 10 Reset setlists to factory, Global reset, Clear IRs 10 & 11 Upgrades existing presets to latest format 11 & 12 Clear current preset 5 & 12 Clear setlists, clear IRs, Return system settings to default 6 & 12 Safe boot mode
  17. It took me a moment to wrap my head around what you were suggesting.... When the light bulb came on, I upvoted it :)
  18. Great idea but I see three problems. The UAD Satellite costs more than an HX Stomp, and still doesn't have all the features you want it to have. How do you expect Line 6 to pull it off at a price point that would make more sense than just adding a 2nd Stomp or HX Effects? The UAD Satellite is Thunderbolt... which is much quicker than USB2 In regards to USB, are you familiar with HOSTS vs DEVICES? Hosts talk to devices Devices can answer back to a host A device cannot talk to another device, unless it is facilitated by a HOST playing the middle man, and often with added software. My point? The Helix/Stomp is a device.... it cannot HOST anything on it's own, not even a memory stick!
  19. Yes, you are correct... they were release prior to the XT and subsequent X3. The HD Series and M Series had the "Heavy Distortion" model with NO MID Freq Control. The "Killer Z" never made it to that series. IMO, it wouldn't be the first effect in the HD series that actually took a step back from the X3 :)
  20. The HM-2 is the Boss Heavy Metal distortion... The Metal Zone is a Boss MT-2... Similar category, but very different distortions... For reference, tone controls on a real Metal Zone are "after" the gain stage so after the Metal Zone would be the more accurate placement. That said, I agree with you. Try it in both places and pick the position you like more. I am pretty sure the legacy effects are the HD Series (M Series).... while the Stompbox modelers would have been from the XT/X3 era... but with limited controls.

    Performer tones

If you have a blank setlist on your Helix or if you are ok with overwriting Factory 1 then there is nothing to lose. I certainly never took it as such, and I hope my answer didn't cause you to believe I did.
  22. I prefer to call them "simple oversights" rather than "really stupid" - LOL! I was foiled by the MONO/STEREO option once before... it drove me nuts trying to figure out what was different because it isn't obvious at a glance.
  23. I'm all in with snapshots so I doubt I will ever use this feature... but it's a great option for those that are entrenched in, or just really prefer the "preset" method of getting around.
  24. The Flange is stereo...... that's the difference! Stereo effects take a huge amount of resources.. Change it to mono or remove it and you gain access to ALL amps!
  25. I wonder where my post went... I don't see it! Are you 100% certain you are comparing apples to apples. The new preset contains the STEREO version of the Gray Flanger. Indeed, it eats enough DSP that your options become limited. If you simply change that to the MONO version of the Gray Flanger all of the amps become available! (just verified this on my Helix) So.... When you say you tried the Gray Flanger in the OLD preset, did you insert the MONO or STEREO version? If you inserted the MONO Version, that's your difference!
