Screen/footswitch LEDs not updating in preset mode when changing presets.
rd2rk replied to JacksonWarrior88's topic in Helix
Perform a complete backup. Perform a Factory reset: Helix/Rack/LT/FX/Stomp Reset Procedures and Troubleshooting Tricks - HELIX/HX - Line 6 Community If that doesn't work, using the L6 Updater, re-flash the FW. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! Anything else I should know? Yes. We STRONGLY recommend performing a factory reset AFTER UPDATING your Helix/HX firmware to 3.11 and THEN RESTORING YOUR BACKUP. (Backing up is part of the update process). Here's how to perform a factory reset. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP FIRST, AS A FACTORY RESET WILL ERASE ALL YOUR WORK! Helix Floor/LT: While holding footswitches 9 & 10 (bottom row, 2 middle switches), turn on Helix Floor/LT Helix Rack: While holding knobs 5 & 6 (2 furthest right knobs below the screen), turn on Helix Rack HX Effects: While holding footswitches 6 & TAP (2 farthest right switches on the bottom row), turn on HX Effects HX Stomp: While holding footswitches 2 & 3, turn on HX Stomp HX Stomp XL: While holding footswitches C & D, turn on HX Stomp If that doesn't work, contact support. -
Sounds like you either have a ground loop or really dirty power. Are both devices and anything else connected to them, including the computer that the LT's USB is connected to plugged into the same circuit? Is that circuit one which is not shared by appliances, fluorescents and rheostats? Are they also plugged into a quality surge strip with emi/rfi filtering? Are any of the connected devices within 10 feet of a wireless router? Are you using quality shielded cables everywhere including 4cm?

What is your amp make and model? Attach a copy of your preset (the actual preset, not a screenshot) so that someone can troubleshoot it for you.

Yes, you can do WDW with Stomp or Helix. The configurations would be diifferent: Guitar>HXS L/Mono In>OD/DIST>Split>Amp/Cab>Wet FX>Main L/R Outs to FOH > (some block (0db gain or effect) required to create the Split)>Send L/R (pull down MIX block to separate the Outputs, then TS cable = Left Send)>Amp Keep in mind that the signal chain I described for Helix is only one of many ways to go about it.
-
Guitar>Helix Guitar In>OD/Dist>FX Send 1 Block (to amp)>Helix Amp/Cab>Wet FX>XLR Out (to FOH) EZ PZ You can also do this with a Stomp, depending how many/how DSP intensive your Amp/Cab/FX needs.

Considering that this thread is almost 2 years old, you might not get a response from OP. I'm going to guess that he solved this by setting his Base MIDI Channel on his CONTROLLER device to other than the Base Channel on the CONTROLLED device, then in Command Center set the PC message to the CONTROLLED device Base Channel. He didn't give much detail and never attached a sample preset, so it's hard to tell. If my post describes your problem, then my solution is the Best Practices way to go about doing it. If not, describe YOUR specific configuration and attach a sample preset.

Not familiar with the capabilities of Melo, but if the FS can send 2 toggling CCs on a single press, assign each block a separate CC# (ex - 111 and 112) and set them so that on first press: CC#111 Value 127 (ON) CC#112 Value 0 (OFF) second press sends the reverse: CC#111 Value 0 (OFF) CC#112 Value 127 (ON) FCB1010/UNO can do this, but the stock FCB chip can't, nor can Helix. It really depends upon what the Melo is capable of. Time to RTM! If you're talking about the Midi Commander, I looked at the v1.0 manual and it doesn't look like it will work, as each button can send only one message at a time.

In preset mode the footswitches select presets, and the scribble strips reflect that. In snapshot mode the footswitches select snapshots, and the scribble strips reflect that. In stomp mode the footswitches select functions, and the scribble strips reflect those functions. If a FS is assigned to bypass a block, the scribble strip shows the effect that's in that block. That's one of two ways you know that a FS is assigned to bypass a block. The second way is by looking in HX Edit at the "Bypass/Controller Assign" pane, which lists all of the FS assignments EXCEPT those made in CommandCenter. When a FS is assigned a function in CommandCenter the scribble strips reflect that function. BYPASS is NOT assigned OR reflected IN CommandCenter, it's assigned in the main UI and shown in the Bypass/Controller Assign pane. If a FS has multiple assignments the scribble strip says "Multiple (X)" where X=the number of assignments. If you want the scribble strip to say something specific you can enter the description either in CommandCenter (if it's a CommandCenter function) OR in Bypass/Controller Assign if it's a bypass or block parameter function. If all three are assigned to one FS, you can change the scribble strip text in either CommandCenter OR any of the Bypass/Controller Assign listings for that FS. There is no way to clear ALL assignments from a FS or to clear ALL assignments from ALL switches. I can see where this might be handy. You should suggest it on Ideascale: https://line6.ideascale.com/a/login In Bypass/Controller Assign if you right-click a FS assignment and select CLEAR ALL ASSIGNMENTS it will clear all functions assigned to that FS EXCEPT those assigned in CommandCenter. Those need to be cleared IN CommandCenter. Your question implies that you think you can program the footswitches in CommandCenter to do whatever you want. This is not the case. CommandCenter can be used to assign switches in stomp mode to do more than bypass and parameter control, but NOT bypass and parameter control. Those functions are assigned in the main UI and Bypass/Controller Assign. In CommandCenter you can additionally assign stomp mode footswitches to call presets, call or toggle snapshots and send MIDI and computer keyboard commands to external devices. IOW - footswitches are assigned different functions in different parts of the UI - Bypass/Controller Assign and CommandCenter. As I've gone to great lengths to explain this stuff, I hope you understand that I'm not by nature a big meanie, BUT - It is unfortunate that the logic of the Helix programmers does not conform to your expectations of the way it should be. You are not alone. There's no such thing as "common sense". What appears to be "common sense" to one person isn't necessarily "common sense" to someone else. This disparity is especially common between users and programmers/UI designers. I know this to be true personally, as I have been both a user and a programmer/program UI designer. Learning to deal with this truth (or any truth) is one of the differences between humans and donuts. :-) Also, donuts are totally incapable of RTFM! Although sometimes I think the manuals are written by donuts. I hope this helps.

Here's a link that might help explain, or confuse you further. Helix Split-Merge Routing does change the level (and other routing measurements) - Helix - Line 6 Community As to why one device does it and another doesn't, you should ask L6 about that. Do post back with their reply.
-
It's normal. Some sort of audio "summing" rule whereby splitting the path causes a drop in each path's level, so recombining the paths adds 3db. I don't remember the details, but I'm sure someone will jump in with them.

Having never used the stock templates, I had to find my backup and reload them to duplicate what they're doing in the video. I see what you're getting at. My amp is an Egnater Tweaker15-112, pretty much equivalent to your TM18 (two 12ax7 in the pre, one for the PI). I get the same results as you. TBH, I've no idea why the HX Deluxe Pre should be so much quieter than the real world tube pre in my Eg. You'd have to ask L6 about that. I'm going to guess that there's a disparity between the CHANNEL level on the HX pre and what actually gets sent from a real world preamp? I always max the CHANNEL level in this scenario to approximate what would happen ITRW (see above) and still had to add 2 maxed out gain blocks to get close to a match - that's +12db on top of +12db. I've attached a modded 4cm preset for you to see what I did. I'm not sure why they set the BIG KNOB at 50%. I always MAX mine to prevent unfortunate on-stage accidents. Also, I set the 1/4" level at LINE. I don't know why you think that's not appropriate for your amp. I don't think H&K designed it so that you could plug your guitar straight into the power amp, which is what INST Level is the equivalent of. It would be interesting to see what happens if you used an AIAB direct to the poweramp. Would it be a similar situation as with the HX pre? If I had another amp with a two 12ax7 pre I'd try running that straight into my Eg's poweramp, but I don't. The Y-split allows you to control the mix of direct and effected signal at the MIX block. 4Cable MethodTJB.hlx

ITRW, if you run a preamp into a guitar cab, it's not going to be as loud as running it into a power amp first. A preamp with four 12ax7 tubes will likely be much louder than one with two 12ax7's. L6 models these things very accurately so yes, it's a feature. One trick that some people use is to run a preamp into a full amp. It's like using an AIAB into the front of a real amp (like a MIAB or the Friedman BE stomp, NOT a pedalboard type power amp in a box! That'll cause the magic smoke to escape from your amp!). If you put a Helix preamp into the front of your H&K (before the FX Loop) that's essentially what you're doing. If you want to experiment with Helix preamps into the H&K poweramp, just turn off the FX Loop when you turn on the preamp (assign them to the same stomp or use snapshots). That'll simply replace the H&K preamp, but the FX that were between the H&K Pre and power sections will still be in the same place in the signal chain. If you really need for the Helix pre to be louder, add a gain block after the preamp.

Extreme differences in Gain levels of amps or Gain FX while a note is ringing out can cause what sounds like a POP. Extreme changes in time settings of delays or certain parameters of some Mod FX can cause VERY strange sounds. These things are not so much a problem when changing overall mix levels of those FX. I suspect that this won't be a big problem with Cellos, but then, if you're using crazy FX on them, who knows? Are you channeling John Cale from his Velvet days?

I don't usually use Helix as my AI, (I use Scarlett 18i20 and for a DI I take the XLR off my G10 wireless) and I use Reaper as my DAW. I just went over and switched AI to Helix and set up Reaper tracks to 1 and 7. I'm getting the opposite result. -6db on the processed track (1) and -18db on the DI track (7). Something in your Logic settings?

Helps to know what device you're using. If you then attach a preset which has that problem, someone with that device can troubleshoot it for you.

By my reading of the schematic in the manual, the only way that the signal gets from the DLX Returns to the XLRs is through the Power Amp and Cab Sim. That means that you should try using the HXS Preamps instead of the Full Amps to avoid having two Power Amp sims running at once. To test this, using an HXS Amp+Cab, put the Cab Bypass switch ON and take the TS outs to the board. Then using an HXS Preamp, take the XLRs to the board. In both tests, don't be afraid to use the HXS amp/preamp tone-stacks to get the best sound for that configuration. One of those configurations should sound better than the other. Everything else looks OK. Didn't we do this somewhere else? Apparently, it's possible to turn the SIMPLIFIER into a COMPLICATOR! :-)

You need to assign the LEVEL Parameters to Snapshots. Right Click on the LEVEL Sliders and select SNAPSHOTS. Then SAVE the Preset. Now when you change the levels and SAVE, That Snapshot will have those levels. Select your next Snapshot and change the Levels, then SAVE. Switching between those Snapshots should now reflect the desired levels.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. That's not normal (the feedback), and I was asking for your cabling when using 4cm, and a sample of a preset you'd use with 4cm. As @phil_m said, if you run a distorted signal into a delay, you'll get distorted delays. The only way around that is to send a clean signal in parallel to the distorted signal with the delay also in parallel. You can do this (in 4cm) by splitting your signal prior to the FX Loop Block and putting the delay in that parallel path, rejoining the signal chain after the FX Loop Block. You then use the Mix Block to control the amount of each signal that goes to other FX before the Output (to Amp Return) Block. Or, you can route the delayed signal completely around any or all of those post-loop FX. If you send what I requested, once I've verified that you're cabled properly I'll mod your preset to demo the technique. I've attached a demo made with my Egnater. To prove the clean delay, just go to the Mix Block and drop the "A" level all the way down. I have the MIX on the Delay set to 100% so all you'll hear is the delayed signal, but you can drop that mix to add back the "dry" signal to taste. Of course, this preset will only work if you're cabled correctly, so please do send the description of your cabling and your sample preset so we can sort the "feedback" problem. Eg OD Cln Dly.hlx

No. You just gotta spin the knob REALLY FAST! Much requested feature over on Ideascale, : https://line6.ideascale.com/a/login though I'm not sure what search terms you'd use to find the dozen or so requests. When you do, be sure to vote for all of them!
