  1. All this highlites the fact that Line 6's software developers need to step up to the plate and update their software so there are not these issues for others in the future. There have been NO updates for firmware in some time, I can only hope this is because they are owrking on brand new versions of everything. Edited to add: Maybe this article explains something - what will be in store with a new 'boss'?
  2. You need to have both output jacks connected to a load, otherwise the amp will be imbalanced and this can cause damage to the amp's circuitry.
  3. No, you are mistaken - you could never do that with the Spider IV looper - it is inserted after the preamp/FX section of the device.
  4. You have just discovered the inherent problem with the built-in Spider looper. Unfortunately, without an FX loop, using an external looper to do this won't work either. The only way to do it would be to take the headphone/lineout from the amp into an external looper, then run that to another amp (or PA system).
  5. That's not feedback. It's electric noise. I suspect the amp output (which is a low volume line out) is overloading the input of your computer. Possibly an impedance mis-match as well. the output you are sending out form the amp is stereo - 'double male' as you describe it - is this a left and right mono set of plugs or a 3 conductor stereo plug? The input on your computer, if a mic-in, is mono and has a cheap preamp to boost the low volume signal from a mic (or your electric guitar). A proper audio interface should really be used to get the best analog-to-digital conversion of an audio signal into your computer.
  6. Forgot to check this from home, been busy last week, will try to remember tonight!
  7. Ouch! bad kittie! Other than replacing the Tolex, or taking it all off and painting, not many other choices.
  8. It sounds like 'loose knob syndrome' - vibrations 'wake up' the knobs, causing those settings to change to where they are pointed. One guy here installed some rubber orings over the knob shafts so that they wouldn't turn as easily.
  9. No, the USB is only for 'communication' between the amp/FBV and your computer (firmware updates and patch editing/loading) and MIDI control.
  10. You need to verify the output of the pedal is working - possibly your cable is faulty or the power supply/battery of the pedal is not working. Plug it into an amp and verify it.
  11. You are using an XLR-XLR cable to connect the mic to the UX2? Make sure you have the phantom power on the UX2 turned on. Note that it is possible that the USB from your computer is not supplying enough power for the UX2 to power the mic - this sometimes happens with other interfaces that do not have a separate power supply.
  12. Yes, you can use the Spider's FX, but they won't be 'recorded' in the JM4's loops. This is the draw back to the current system of the Spider IV. You can record your loop(s), but if you change the FX/patch on the amp all your loops will change tone as well. In other words, you can't record a rhythm pattern with one tone, have that loop, change tones to a lead patch and record a loop with that tone.
  13. Of course, but it wouldn't make sense to use the WAH function of the Express when using your Dunlop WAH. I have an old Morley Wah/Volume pedal, which I typically use as the volume control in my sound chain, preferring to use the Express pedal as the WAH because of the variety of WAH settings available in the amp.
  14. What DAW (recording software) are you using? How are you monitoring - do you have speakers plugged into the computer, or are you using headphones? Feedback indicates a sound loop of some kind. What you describe ('wind noise') is not standard guitir/amp feedback, which is a loud pitch (usually high, sometimes low). What you describe sounds more like automatic compression, which will continue to pump up the volume when it 'hears' very low volume. When you plug your guitar directly into the computer do you get the same sound? One thing to note is the built-in soundcard in your computer is made with about $0.69 worth of parts, so has a pretty crappy analog-to-digital converter. Is it possible that this device has auto compression kicking in? You would need to check yoru soundcard and DAW settings.
  15. The easy solution would be, obviously, separate FBVs for each amp (especially since you wnat differnet tones on each amp), but that would require some dancing around on pedals on stage - easiest to do changes between songs (or during breaks in a song) only.
  16. Not sure about Macs, but if running a PC, you need to make sure the Toneport is selected as your audio device in WIndows.
  17. No doubt it is time for an update. Would say the same about the Spider amps (not that I want my IV to be 'last year's model'!). Maybe there will be a major update coming in the near future. Adding an acoustic guitar and 12-string similation (like in the JTV guitars) would be nice!
  18. I have only ever used Spider Edit since the Fusion update. As far as I could see, when you re-arrange or add new patches, you are doing it directly in the amp, not in the software. From your comments, I guess it was done differently before, i.e. you arranged them in Spider Edit, then batch loaded it to the amp? You can certainly view saved patches in Spider Edit, and edit and then save them, then once you have the amp connected load them to a user patch location.
  19. Let 's start again. Record your dry signal, no PF plugin on it. Play it back - it sounds like it should? Put the PF plugin on the track. Play it back - it now sounds bad? Go into the PF plug-in and deselect the components on whatever preset you have selected, one at a time, playing the track back each time. Do you notice anything different in the sound as you deselect each part of the patch (i.e. remove the distortion pedal, the amp sim, etc). If nothing changes with the sound when you do this, something is not set right somewhere. If you can post soundclips and screenshots, it woudl help us help you.
  20. Yes, please provide the links to these 'complete' free versions.
  21. Yes, update us on better cables if you find them! I'd buy a spare, just in case. Unfortunately, the connectors on the amp and FBV still are flimsy.
  22. No, the Shortboard is just a controller/set of switches. The patches and settings are in the amp.
  23. Before you indicated 'all the channels and electronics are working fine', now you say the tuner does not work. Which FBV foot switch are you using? Does it work changing the patch channels but the tuner does not work on it? Unplug the FBV, does the tuner work on the amp itself (by holding in the button to activate)? The fact that the MP3 input does not produce any sound would indicate the amp section is not working, (headphones should be used to verify that it is not just the main power-speaker output). If there is also problems with the preamp section (tuner, FX knobs don't work), then you've got more than one problem. Only a qualified tech person is going to be able to troubleshoot it. You could certainly open up the chassis and look for possible burned-out components or loose wires.
  24. Have you tried plugging in headphones (or using line out to your computer or an amp)? Parts can be ordered direct from Line 6, but how do you know what to replace unless you can troubleshoot it.?
  25. 1) Complaining here won't get heard by the Line 6 people who matter - this is a user forum seldom visited by the Line 6 associates. 2) It appears to be a 'limited' version - not all the amp/FX models are included. Manufactures offering limited editions is ot unusual, its a typical marketing ploy to get people to upgrade to a full version.
