It's cheap, made of plastic and passive, so no big deal in any way, neither in costs, weight nor cables :)
-
That's exactly how I do it. But I have a cheap hardware volume pedal between my POD and my FRFR-monitor to adjust my personal monitor-level without changing FOH-volume when playing live.
-
You could use the mixer to level your volume without changing the tone. If you have a mono-setup (one path) pan both to center and mute the right chanel. Be sure to use input 1: guitar / input 2: variax

Oh… I never had thought, about the GEQ, effecting the tones of those effects  Thank you very much, Alex!

There is a lot of information around here and in the web. To get your tone is not half as hard as it was when the HD500 was released years ago. But it would be helpful to know your setup, your needs and the style you are exactly looking for. And it may be a good advice to search for your pups in CustomeTones as this could be a good first step, matching your setup.

Although I'd like to call up setlists by using the footswitches (ideascale link), my problem is more organising patches. Mainly I have a patch for high gain, crunch, vintage-tone and clean tone. In addition I have some patches, which I use for specific songs. Because I am still learning to tweak and still are gathering informations and hints, my patches are not fixed in any way and every tone is recurrently compared to similar tones, using similar amps (or simlilar ways f.e. to distort the tone). So said, my tones are recurrently set to get in competition to other patches of mine (or f.e. CustomeTones). So let´s say I have a patch 4A called "highgain" in my main setlist and I like to tweak it, at the moment next action would be to copy it to 5A (if it is empty in my setlist) to tweak and compare the tone. But problems start, if the next following patch like 5A or even 4B is not empty, so I have to place the copy somewhere else. The result is chaotic and it has happened, that I had overwritten good patches with worse duplicates  Naming patches is a problem, too. Maybe it would be better to copy the example "highgain" to a clean or specialized setlist (let´s name it "Workbench") and start like this… 1A: highgain 1B: highgain2 (tweaked) 1C: highgain3 (tweaked) 1D: highgain4 (tweaked) This way it should be easy to compare the original tone (which is always on an A) and the names of the tweaked patches are easy to edit and identifiy, simply by adding an ID-number after the name of the parent-patch. How do you compare edited or downloaded patches to your preferred tones? Maybe some of you even do not feel the need to, but for me it is one part of the pleasure all the possibilities of the POD HD is offering.

Recreating a realistic Marshall tone without an amp.
Smashcraaft replied to leesteel's topic in POD HD
Did you already described the style or the tone you like to achieve? I have seen the standard brit j-800 as very flexible from my experiences  -
Would be cool if one could change setlists by pushing the looper-switch twice (or keeping it hold for a second like the tuner on tap). In the menu we could change setlists by using up/down and confirm it with another step onto the looper-switch. Can someone put this on ideascale? I´m afraid, my english is to poor, to describe this good enough :(

It is always lit. Only time I recognized this behavior was after putting an extension to the original cable.

Paint brush is a good idea too, but my wife would kill me, if I would brush the dirt and dust just to the ground ;)

Haha. I had recognized this, too. Playing through MeAmBobbo's setlist, there was one single patch, which was nearly complete silent (maybe 1 % could be heard (or even not, could have been just imagination)). But at the time I had checked his patches , I didn't even care and got forward to the next patch. Maybe I will reload his setlist and give it a try again just for clarification.

Maybe a noob question, but I wonder what exactly the terms of registration and authorization are. I remember I've heard that amp packs could be authorized at a max of 4 computers using Line6 Monkey. But what exactly will happen in this hypothetical worst case: Maybe I'd authorized an amp pack on four computers. - One was a Laptop I tried and returned to the market (and forgot to de-authorize the pack) - The second might be a Laptop just for rehearsals and the hardware crashed. In both cases one has no longer impact on de-authorization and has only two packs left (which could be less than needed). Would L6 be able to solve the problem? And are there limitations on connecting the POD to different computers, too?

Oups… I almost forgot to introduce my youngest toy: Asus Eee PC 1005HA Netbook, which I bought at eBay at around 40 USD (incl. shipping). It´s enough powerful to execute POD HD500x Edit at a proper speed but I had to apply a small hack to the resolution to get 1024 x 768px.

I am more than ever "in love" with my POD HD. Tweaking and tones gets better from day to day. That's why I have given him some supplements and toys, to satisfy him and myself. First of all I like to present my vintage-tennisbag which costs me less than 10 USD. The advantage of this is, that so (as opposed to a discernible effect-pedal-bag) probably nobody would break up my car. Since when pressing the footswitch repeatedly ends up in dirt and a lot of dust on the black surface, I bought for less than 4 USD a table-brush set, which I always carry in my vintage-tennisbag with the POD. To ensure that no cables get caught in the pedal and limit the range of motion, I have attached a self-adhesive Velcro tape to the side of the unit. To prevent accidental sticking of the hated EU-adapter of the power supply, I have around once wrapped the adapter with Velcro tape. And finally, just to be on the safe side, I have bought this power-supply for emergency (for around 12 USD as postet here…) Maybe I can inspire some users with my given suggestions? It would be a pleasure for me! * If there are any problems with my uploaded images you can check them in my german forum-thread here…

20$ off for those who send their Axe / Kemper in (good condition is required).

Hu! I have recognised a little price drop on Helix, too :o

As I previously said: In Germany, the price has risen from 469 to 499€ from Dec to now. So what´s the conclusion? One might guess it is a worthless discussion

G10 responds to movement/does it fall out?

I am pretty sure, Line6 has tested these before putting the device into the market  -
500X, can it be re-formatted with a different "personality?
Smashcraaft replied to xtrips's topic in POD HD
Yeah, start from the scratch using all those vintage, boutique and low-gain stuff like the Gibtone etc. How do you monitor your tone when dialing in? What guitar (type, PU) and exact setup do you use? All this stuff can help us to help you the best way. And be sure we will get it done :) -
Dust can even smell like charred something. That's something I've noticed when I switch on TV after month.

I use a Yamaha DBR12 active monitor. This monitor has to inputs which separate volume-controls. So I feed the monitor-signal from the PA into input one of the DBR12 (usual the complete sound of the band + my voice raised a little bit). Input two has this chain: POD 1/4" out > Patch-Cable > 15 bucks volume-pedal > Patch-Cable > DBR12 This gives me control over my on-stage guitar sound without a need for communication with the sound-guy and/or band-members. Of course I try to keep my volume not so high it impairs any member of my band in their play.
