  1. I have three JTV models that I use as my main guitars with my band, using the VDI cable. I program all the model, volume, tone and tuning changes into my patches. I've never had the type of problems that you describe. The only time I get a different model than what I wanted is when I've accidentally knocked the selector switch on the guitar, which over rides the programmed model. I leave the batteries in all of my Variax at all times with no problems. If I had your problems, I would sour on the Variax also. But, I'm pretty sure you have something going on that is not normal. I'd suspect a faulty PC board in your Variax. If you got it worked out, you'd be thinking you had the most convenient rig possible.
  2. Fly Rig. I don't own one, but I've thought about getting one as a backup alternative for quite a while. It's small enough to not add too much to the haul in load.
  3. Yep, I had no sound through the USB last night. I changed that setting from 5??? to multi. Works fine now. Let's just be glad they got everything else right.
  4. Do you know what firmware is installed on your Variax? It sounds like the firmware on the Variax needs to be updated.
  5. I've had no need for Native so far. But I know eventually there will be a project where it will come in handy, so I planned on buying it at some point. I think this discount will move that point up into the next couple of days.
  6. I checked today and all three of my JTV's, 69, 69S, 89F, are working with Workbench HD and Helix 2.30.
  7. As long as you keep the signals separate, that would work. Lava Cable could probably make you one like you describe, or a single cable with two plugs at each end. I might consider that myself, just to give the JP15 some play time with the Helix.
  8. I don't want to beleaguer the point, but I definitely UNCHCECKED Factory set lists from the restore I did, yet I had no new patches for the new amps when I went searching. I had to import a new factory set list. So I agree, there seems to be some erratic results with the restore feature.
  9. That would work if you use two cables out of the JP. If you wanted to use just one cable, then you could use a snapshot for the mags and a snapshot for the piezos. But then you would need to step on a Helix switch, and move the JP position switch, at the same time. I mainly play a JTV69 through my Helix as my gigging guitar. That connects with a VDI cable, so the mags and piezos are both connected and programmed into my patches and snapshots. Sad to say that my JP15 Blueberry Burst rarely gets pulled out. I find it ironic that my most expensive and beautiful guitar got replaced by my cheapest and somewhat ugliest guitar. I put a Warmouth Wizard neck on the JTV to try to match the JP neck profile. I'm now a happy camper with the JTV.
  10. Thanks for updating and posting that. A good reference list. One picky point. Summery is a description of the weather. You should change your Summery to Summary. :)

    New Presets?

Thanks, that confirmed that I didn't have the new presets. I just did a Import Setlist after downloading the file that is posted earlier in this thread and now I have the new presets. I still don't know why they didn't come with the firmware upgrade, or if they did how I lost them, since I only restored my User set lists. But, I'm good to go now. Thanks again.

    New Presets?

I'm still confused about whether there are new presets that come with 2.30. After doing the FW update, I did a restore but only restored my User Presets, not the factory presets. That should have kept the new 2.30 presets intact. But I'm not noticing any new presets. I'm looking for anything that's associated with the new amps and don't see them. Could someone post couple of preset names that are new with 2.30 so I can confirm I have them. Thanks,
  13. My plan was to sit back and wait till the dust settled. You guys are making that VERY difficult. :)
  14. If they were just an experiment to see how a particular combination of amp and effects would sound, I discard them. If the patch was made for a specific song, which most of mine are, I keep it. You never know when a future band will say, lets do that song and I'll have a good starting point, even if I have to tweak it some. But I keep all old patches on my computer, not the Helix. I don't like scrolling through a bunch of stuff that I'm not using.
  15. Good luck is not normally my forte, but I'll take it when I can get it.
  16. I have Win7 and play along to audio through the Helix while my editor is open and I make changes to my patches at the same time. No problem, except a fairly loud noise floor from the computer.
  17. The typical problem with the modeling knob is that when it's pushed down to engage it. the knob doesn't fully depress far enough. Pulling up on the knob isn't going to fix anything that I know of. There's probably a good chance that the problem is the old early style knob. A new knob or sticking a little piece of cardboard in the knob before putting it back on should fix this problem. If it's a new Variax, then there should be a warranty in effect in case it's something else.
  18. You need to think a step ahead by copying the original preset and pasting it in a new spot. Change the name and tweak away.
  19. I can see Rocco's point because I have a similar situation. If you have two guitars that you want to give play time to, but they sound so different that you can't use the same song preset without compromising the feel of the song, then you need an easy way to compensate without having to have a completely different preset. My two Variax's are giving me this problem. I want to play both. One has a 25.5" mahogany neck, the other a 24.75" maple neck. The maple neck is so much brighter that I can't play it without making some adjustment and I don't want to have a bunch of extra presets to sort through. I'm kind of thinking having two EQ's in a preset that I can just switch between for the two guitars. I'm not sure I want to be making global eq changes on stage at a gig.
  20. Excellent job with both video's. Tone wise, I like the OP's. But damn Aiden can play.
  21. Is your DI output XLR? Which one do you use?
  22. This is a good example of how the thought process of playing through analog effects and a tube amp is so different from that used for a high end modeling rig. It's hard to wrap your head around the small differences that make a big impact. You have to sort through it one piece at a time. Which is what gives a forum like this it's real value.
  23. What Phil said. After setting the model in snapshot 1, do the same in snapshot 2 by pushing and turning the model selector, then save. Being able to change the model, volume, tone, and tuning between snapshots with one footswitch is a huge advantage, for those of us that can't chew gum and walk at the same time!
  24. Another vote for SS frets. Out of 11 guitars, only 3 still have nickel frets.
