  1. You either have to save your preset with the volume pedal at zero, or set your volume pedal to be GLOBAL as in Phil_m's reply. If you set it to global, no matter how you save the preset or which preset you choose, it will always be where the pedal actual position is.
  2. I have a Polytune clip always, even if they do eventually work out the quirkiness with the on board tuner. Always have a backup, even when it comes to the tuner. Right now, the Helix tuner is my backup. It seems OK for that job now. You also get a free Polytune plugin when you purchase one of their tuners. It is worth it almost just for that.
  3. For home use with headphones playing along with backing tracks, LT is perfectly fine for the job. As far as playing backing tracks, Helix has 8 inputs and 8 outputs available over USB. Connect your PC/Mac to Helix with USB and you can play your tracks to the Helix via USB in 1/2. You can even connect your iPhone/iPad with the camera connection kit. You adjust the USB IN 1/2 level in global settings, then play along to your hearts contents. This is how I practice at home all the time.
  4. Now that you are on 2.30, your globals will be stored with the backup so you won't have to remember what your global settings are any more.
  5. This is why I set my main volume knob to 2:00 then let the sound guy (if there is one) adjust to that. If the overall band volume drifts, I can drift with it on the main volume knob globally.
  6. Do you have your 1/4" out set for instrument or line level in global settings?
  7. You can, but your patches will still sound a little different through the PA mains at gig volume.
  8. Open a support ticket with Line 6.
  9. I use my IEMs when practicing quietly at home as well.
  10. Did that at church this morning. Everything was fine when we ran through the songs before service. Checked my global settings, had the sound guy make sure I wasn't muted, etc... Looked down and saw my G10 wireless transmitter sitting in the base, not in my guitar...geez...
  11. You can't use one of the stomps to change modes.
  12. You won't need the cab models or IRs when using an external real cabinet. That works great live. Keep in mind that if you listen to your sound on headphones on the Helix phones out jack, you will be hearing your signal path without a cab/IR so it will sound harsh. If you want to take your sound to a DAW for straight into the mixer, you will need to add in a cab model or IR.
  13. My bad on the Crate. Something like a Blackstar HT-5 Head has a direct out that includes "cab emulation" and effects loop for 4CM. If you already have the M9, then it may be feasible. If you have to purchase an M9 and a small head with a direct out and loop, then you are getting close to Helix LT territory and it may be more beneficial to just do that.
  14. This is the case where an M9 AND a Crate Power Block could pass as a backup, using the direct out of the Power Block.
  15. Great advise here. But, always keep in mind that clean and dirty tones will sit differently in the mix with a band as well. So even after you have "normalized" your volumes at home, you still may need to adjust when playing with the rest of the band.
  16. Put it in one of the effects loops. You can then put it anywhere in the signal chain and turn it on/off with a stomp.
  17. Check out Cartographer. Drive 2 on zero and vary drive 1 to get you everything from clean to a little stank. Start cranking up drive 2 and things get really heavy. A LOT of sonic territory here.
  18. I am looking forward to new/updated reverbs. I find myself still lusting after the luscious sparkle that I just can't quite get in the Helix.
  19. What are you monitoring through? A preset created at high volume through stereo FRFR speakers will sound completely different when listening through headphones, and vice versa. It is not a problem, it is just a lack of understanding the audio monitoring at the listening end.

    Helix FAQ

You can also use the 4 returns as inputs, but you only have 4 paths total that can be set to individual outputs. You could use: Guitar >main in> XLR L out Keys> aux in > XLR R out vocal> mic in > 1/4" L out bass> return 1> 1/4" R out If you do use 4 paths like this, just be aware that there is no room to create parallel paths on any of them. Parallel paths use up one of the 4 available paths.
  21. If you tried Native just on its own with some 3rd party interface as your guitar input, then you are missing quite a bit of the equation. The input on the Helix hardware makes a big difference. IMO, the effects (especially the drives) are indistinguishable from the original analog. This is the first unit that I have ever played or heard that sounds and FEELS like the real thing.
  22. Can you describe "telephone ringing and tones"?

    Helix 7CM

When you get it working let me know. I'd like to do something Fractal based (mathematically, not AxeFx).

    Helix FAQ

You can send signals to separate outputs, or all signals to same outputs. Keep in mind that the Helix LT does not have the extra inputs (Aux, Mic), so you will have to use Helix Floor or Rack.
