I do this instead of imported IRs any more. Dual cabs, different cabs, two different mics, and room reflections set differently. I usually have a 4x12 using a R121 to to emphasize more of the low frequencies, and a 4x12 with SM57 to capture more of the highs. I usually have the 4x12 set at 25% room reflection, and the 2x12 75-100% room reflections.

Perfect. Yes, ASIO, Intel i7 processor, Windows 10, plenty of RAM, and Reaper. I should be good to go. Seems like a very good $99 backup plan for my needs. Thanks for the info.

How feasible is using Native with an interface other than Helix for live playing as a backup if my Helix ever goes down? Is the latency from interface input to DAW processing to interface output too high to be able to play live with that setup?

Yep. The Logitech speakers are multimedia speakers and will color your sound quite a bit. They probably won't sound good at all actually. A decent set of monitoring headphones will help you out a lot. You can get some pretty decent ones for under $200.

You use the Line 6 Updater to update firmware. I am not sure if you can "reinstall" it though. I have never had to try that. It is covered by a one year warranty, so I would open a support ticket so Line 6 can take care of it.

What USB channels do you have DAW playback set on? If you are monitoring your DAW on USB 1/2 on Helix, you may have to adjust the level of USB 1/2 IN in global settings. Sounds like it may need to be turned up a bit.

Page 57 and 58 in the 2.0 Helix manual gives you all the Midi CCs to make it work.

When you play with headphones, are headphones plugged into Helix? When you listen to recordings from DAW, are you listening through studio monitor or the same headphones? Are the monitors/headphones plugged into Helix when listening to recordings?

You can use a cheap midi controller, but you will be missing out on quite a bit of functionality. If it were me that that was my worry, I would save some extra money and buy the rack and external controller.

I use the return mostly for bass (passive) without a buffer. It does work, but I am not a "tone aficionado" when it comes to bass either. It works for my needs though.

Yes. The second guitar you can use one of the loop returns as the input. Just set your input block on one of your paths to whichever return you plug into. The AUX input on Helix is intended for active guitars, as I understand it.

2 Topics: Copy/paste blocks and Solo performances
jbuhajla replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
Yes, you can copy/paste right on the Helix itself. I don't use the editor much because I feel it is necessary to be familiar with all the controls directly on the Helix. I don't play live with the editor, so I want to know how to do things quickly directly on the Helix. You can copy/paste a block within a preset as well as to other presets. Just hit action>copy go to where you want to paste it, hit action>paste. -
Thanks phil_m, that is the unexpected behavior I was seeing.

The manual states that the tap tempo is controlled with CC#64, value 64-127. Is that controlling the tap tempo foot switch with 127 being on, and 64 being off, or is the CC message sending a tempo value to Helix? I am getting unexpected results sending a value between 64-127.

You could try posting a thread on this forum asking what laptops users have 100% success with. Just a thought.

Line 6 cannot give you a list of laptops that will 100% work through USB. Nobody that makes USB devices can give you such a list. The "universal" in USB is referencing the industry physical standards concerning connection type and pin-out, cables, and communication protocol. It in NO way indicates that a Universal serial device will work with every computer with a USB port. I recommend continuing to work WITH Line 6 in resolving your issue rather than stomping your foot. Stomping of the foot usually ends up getting you less than stellar support with ANY company. Just my $0.02...

Yes, or go check it for yourself. I noticed my sound was "off" during rehearsal one week. I checked on my channel on our board (Behringer X32), and someone had scooped the mids on the EQ on my channel, where as usually it was just flat. I flattened it back out.

You can do that if that is what you prefer. I don't find it necessary to do that, I just monitor what is going to FOH through my IEM or wedge with the full mix to my taste.
-
Yes. Have your dry "no effects" tone going to one channel, create a parallel path with effects, but make that path go to a different output.

Yep, that what happens when using volunteers at church for running sound. This past Sunday we had a new volunteer feeling adventurous. We could hear some changes being made during service in our ears in the middle of a song. Then all of a sudden, EVERYTHING goes dead. He managed to mute the mains and monitors for about 15 seconds. Luckily our worship pastor keep going on his acoustic and we all picked back up when sound came back, didn't miss a lick. We run fully isolated so you see everyone immediately messing around with their in ears thinking they accidentally unplugged their cord or something.
