  1. so over at the Seymour Duncan booth guess what they chose for their sound system? Line 6 Stagesource L2t's... Nice! BTW Nick Johnston is amazing, still trying to get his tone on the POD... anybody else already done it please share... https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=833329700047011 Apparently using a Kemper... https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=827058074007507&theater
  2. I think that is the main point, we are all different and have different expectations of what it should sound like. Its a lose/lose proposition for Line 6 to invent a different start tone for each amp and cab model because no matter what they do, there will still be a whole boatload of people that say WTF were you thinking? There is no way around it with the HD series, no matter where it starts off you have to tweak to get the final sound you are happy with. What sounds good to you with your strats may sound like balls to me with a les paul. Its only a starting point. Maybe the global EQ will do what you are suggesting and give a different starting tone for live vs studio, I don't know... Personally I don't find them all that far off for a starting point but maybe I just can't recognize good tone.
  3. I think you need to go into the POD ASIO driver control panel and turn down the hardware monitoring. Right now you are monitoring the guitar direct at the POD before going into the DAW when you need to be doing software monitoring of the recorded guitar signal out of your DAW. That way the guitar levels will be more relative to the other tracks in your project. You should also try to avoid cross posting as you are basically asking the same question in two different threads. Makes it hard for us to answer your questions when they are not all together. You can ask additional questions within your thread and all your answers will be consolidated in the same place.
  4. Yes the amps and effects in the POD are that much better IMHO... I had a Flextone II head and I know its a capable unit but the POD does sound better. Its a learning curve but worth it. You could always use the 4 cable method to use the Flextone amps and effects but not the best solution. If you really want the JC120 get the model pack, I am pretty sure it will be worth it. (I will definitely buy the full bundle)
  5. best way to run this will be taking the 1/4 outs from the HD500X straight into the FX Return on the Flextone. That bypasses all the internal amps and effects in the Flextone and just uses the power section to your cabs. Use the amps, cabs and effects in the POD in full stereo in this configuration. Should be a monster!
  6. go into the POD mixer levels and lower the signal there. You can do it on the POD or I prefer to use HD Edit software. Ableton is NOT the issue, its a great piece of software.
  7. maybe you should post some of your tones on Customtone so we can see what you are talking about. See if I can recognize a good tone...
  8. I kind of think you just answered your own non-question... you have through hard work and effort developed a set of patches with the correct EQ for YOUR taste in tone. I have no idea what that actually is so how could I possibly vote for it? Do you anticipate that Line 6 will come up with the same EQ settings you did? Should I expect that that will be the holy grail of tone for my personal taste? Would it somehow be a better jumping off point for me to develop my own tones? I guess that is why I can't go along with the idea since I love the fact that they have provided the tools for each of us to develop that live gig or studio tone that we want to hear. There is little chance that it will be the same from one to another but that is the beauty of the system. Especially considering the multitude of options at our disposal for completing the sound system from guitars to amps to PA... None of us have the exact same setup so any base setting from the factory will always be nothing more than a starting point and arguably (no pun intended) no better than where we currently start...
  9. I missed that performance and he didn't use it in the other song. It looks like both Jesse and the other guitarist are both using POD's too... :) http://jezebel.com/dangelo-plays-snl-panties-cream-all-over-america-1683107820
  10. there's one in Ambler and one in Landenberg and another in Edison, NJ. Try them all. Try your local Guitar Center, maybe they have a repair shop.
  11. give this patch a try and see if its close... dual amps and cabs, some compression, screamer and some of the DEP edits we've been talking about... let me know if you like it. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/831386/
  12. wouldn't make a damn bit of difference if they made what you ask for... guarantee somebody else would be on here 5 minutes later complaining that it sounds like $hit, can't make a decent patch, too complicated, dull, lifeless... etc.. I still say if you can't make it work, look in the mirror or get something else...
  13. You should look at the Firehawk FX. Gives you all the tones of the AMPLIFi with the amps from the HD500 and not as steep a learning curve. Plus it has Variax integration which you won't get with the AMPLIFi series... it looks like it may be the best of both worlds...
  14. and with respect I totally disagree. The POD sounds as good live as you make it. If it doesn't, look in the mirror for the solution. It is a serious piece of gear that takes time to learn and use to its full capabilities. It was designed and built that way on purpose for those that wanted a professional level modeler for live and studio work. there are a lot of levels to it and some really deep editing features. You can't just turn it on and be good to go. If you just want a plug and play unit you should look at the rest of the line such as AMPLIFi or Firehawk FX. There is no need to dumb down the HD series...
  15. see now I am the opposite... I am leaning more to not using the DT at all and just going direct to PA and grabbing a pair of powered monitors if I need a backline. I am very pleased with the full amp models once you take the time to really build a complete patch and I got tired of having to rebuild them to mono and compensate for the different output mode. Plus its SO much easier not to have to drag a cab and head around... :D
  16. I would love to know which model they built the Standard on. They have a wide range of Pacificas and some really nice color choices other than sunburst. Pacifica
  17. You need to use a VDI cable for the POD to control the JTV, not a regular guitar cable. If you are using one already, check to see that Monkey can see your JTV while hooked to the POD. If not, try a different cable and if that doesn't help, open a support ticket. Also, just to cover the bases, you have to select the JTV model you want in the mixer section for the POD. I use HD Edit and it defaults to the older Variax models which won't work with a JTV.
  18. You need a Variax to do that... You can set individual string volumes in Workbench HD.
  19. selling model packs as additions has been a long standing Line 6 business model and doesn't mean support will change in any way from current levels...
  20. nobody is disputing that, including the experts. Just that its been beaten to death and the one factory rep that posts here has said they blew it. Unfortunately it can't be fixed in this series without effing up a lot of other things. He pretty much assured us it won't happen in future series. Just curious, you are a very knowledgeable guy, posted a ton of good stuff over at TGP... How come you don't contribute to this board? I'm certain you have a lot to offer...
  21. Hey guys, this link to a fantastic post by pfsmith0 should be pinned to the front of the forum and mandatory reading for all POD HD users. He went to great lengths to do all the work for us in translating the POD EQ's to Hz for our use. Read his post and download the PDF's. Time to let this one go since it is clear they are not going to fix it for this series... http://line6.com/support/topic/335-frequency-response-graphs-for-hd500-eqs/ MeAmBobbo's great guide uses the data and images too... http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/eq This video by Matt Mayfield too... Can one of the Experts/moderators get this pinned for us?
  22. The POD does control the settings on the DT when a patch is loaded but once its up, changing the switches on the DT changes the associated parameter so you can play with topologies and class settings on the amp. Those changes are reflected in the POD and if you save the patch will be pulled up next time its loaded.
  23. well they have already said pretty much with certainty that it ain't happening on this series but all future series will be done the right way so we will just have to wait... move along now, nothing to see here...
  24. what pianoguyy said... BTW, I know everyone thinks its the hot ticket to have a Mesa or Fender or other big name cab but with modelers you will be better off getting something more full range. Look at Atomic amps, or Google for full range flat response (FRFR) cabs. Or you could just get a pair of nice powered monitors. These types of speakers will give a better range of use across the spectrum of amp models in the POD. Plus they usually have the required amplification built in...
