Putting the mixer at the end of the chain does give you a mono signal but also limits your patch construction. Placing a mono effect last such as noise gate or hard gate will also give you an identical signal on all four outs. However, XLR outs are mic level and 1/4 outs are line level. Totally different signal levels, the XLR is naturally weaker by design to go into a mixing board even though it carries the exact same tone as the 1/4 outs. Of course by design, the left 1/4 out sums to mono provided nothing is plugged into the right 1/4 out for this exact purpose.
-
you must be using a POD HD PRO. The PRO has separate L/R sends while the 500 has a single TRS send and a pair for return. You don't need to worry about the Y cable. So there is no chance the signals are being crossed or mixed at the FX return. It would have to be somewhere after so like you said, keep the mixer panned hard left/right and don't use any mono effects in the post section to keep your signals separated.
-
centering the mixer just combines both channel A and channel B evenly into one stereo signal! you still have a stereo signal to the outputs and if you add a stereo effect post mixer you may notice it if you only pull one side of the signal. The only way to ensure mono is to add a mono effect last in your chain or place the centered mixer last (both of these give you an identical signal on all four outputs), or use the left 1/4 out which sums to mono (probably the best choice).
-
Unlike the left 1/4 out, the XLR do not sum to mono. Each XLR provides only the left or right signal.

ok, just to confirm, you are using a TRS breakout cable to split the FX send into two separate signals, one to each amp right (some insert cables take a stereo input to two equal mono outputs)? then each amps return comes back to the POD FX return separately to its own channel. These should definitely be separate isolated signals at this point. You can adjust FX send and return levels for signal balancing. Depending on where the FX loop is in your signal chain your mileage with adjusting bypass volume will have varying effect. Before the FX loop and you lower the signal to your tube preamp and thus its tone, after and it may be more transparent. You can also use the mixer levels for leveling. Good luck... Have you tried just doing everything in the HD500 and feeding to your tube amp power sections? Much easier to dial in... in my experience...

Is it possible to control 2 sv hd100s with 1 fbv express mkii?
radatats replied to Hollatchaboy72's topic in Spider Valve
absolutely. Depends entirely on how you set things up in the X3Pro. Chapter 7 in the advanced guide details sending separate tones to two amps. Or you just send one tone with stereo effects to two amps. Give it a try... -

Ok, now we are back to square one. And I am pretty sure it is still no, you cant feed two devices with one pedal. The models in the X3Pro are the same as the SV100 right? POD Farm 2? You should try the X3Pro the way I described... I bet you like it and is's more usable... -
You should be aware that the AMPLIFi 12" speaker is really only a subwoofer when using it as a stereo PA/monitor (aux in). That means the bulk of the sound is coming from the mid and hi drivers which are pretty small physically. I am sure volume isn't an issue when using as a guitar amp with internal modeling but when using as a stereo PA/monitor at volume for long periods I have to wonder how long those smaller drivers will hold up...

Wrong. You use the amp modelers in the X3Pro. everything is done inside the X3Pro. The SV100's are just power amps. From the manual, as soon as you plug into the FX return, the preamp section is disconnected. -

Not sure I understand... sounds like you are running a POD X3Pro into the FX return of 2 SV100's right? If so then you are bypassing everything in the SV100 and just using the tube power amps for the X3Pro which would be controlled by the FBV... That's how I would run it... -
Dream Rig - Layering Issue
radatats replied to malnack's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
Well as it says, you have to be connected with VDI for JTV, L6 link for DT25 and either XLR or 1/4 out to your PA/FRFR/DAW.. Set input 1 to Variax Mags, input 2 to Variax. As noted, you have to go to the L6 link tab and set Amp 1 to Amp Model A. Check that the empty Amp B block has Bypass Volume set to 100%. Now your mags will go to channel A right up to the Amp block and then go to the DT BEFORE the mixer. Channel A ends right at the amp block. Your Variax signal goes to channel B, through the mixer and on to the outputs and to your PA. In his patch he has Exp 1 controlling the DT amp channel volume and Exp 2 controlling the Volume block after the mixer which is for your Variax signal. Without a second pedal it will be difficult to control blending so try turning the volume block off to make sure you have a good signal going through, That should do it bro... -
You can download custom JTV patches at this site: http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?board=138.0 Recommend you save your current factory patches as a bundle to reload later if you want or you can always just reflash to get back to original.

Dream Rig - Layering Issue

Can you be more specific? I have made it work no problem... -
glad you clarified. Most folks use the 4 cable method to take advantage of their tube preamp section. You have a solid state preamp with no tube advantages. Instead what you have is nice solid state power amp and cab, no need for 4CM. Personally, I would just go straight into the FX return and use my POD for everything. There are a lot of guys using it straight into the FX return and very happy with the results. And it is MUCH easier to set up... I would definitely use Studio Direct and experiment with amps, preamps, cabs, mics and EQ to find what works for you. The idea of discarding cab and mic emulation is just wrong. If at the end of the day you prefer it off, OK, but at least try it to see how it sounds. You can try the other output types too to see how they sound but I think you will be best with Studio Direct.

Use the left 1/4 out as it is a line level signal and also sums both left and right to mono so you don't have to whack up your patches. On the Alto, check the volume knobs. The left side (6-12 oclock) is for line level inputs and the right side (12-6 oclock) is for mic level inputs. http://www.altoproaudio.com/images/products/Truesonic_connectors_lrg.jpg

XLR is a mic level signal while the 1/4 outs are line level. XLR is designed to go straight to the board, it is a lower level signal than the 1/4 outs.
-
Great advice from edstar1960 but your power amp has two channels and if I read your first post right, you have two PA cabs. You can just use both XLR outs from the POD into both channels on the amp and leave your patches set to stereo as they were. You will get a stereo signal through your PA. You only have to do all the other stuff if you absolutely want to just run one cable, one channel and a mono signal. If you are still having low volume after all that, go to the 1/4 outs with XLR adapters into the power amp for a stronger line level signal.

Variax sounding like a synth
radatats replied to mark_shaw's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
the synths in the POD HD500 are good IF you set them up right and depending on what you are playing through, preferably FRFR. There are plenty of decent synth patches on Customtone to work with. Look at the models in the Filter section, there is a String Synth there you can play with. You probably won't want to use an amp in your synth patch either. Instead use compressors, EQ's, distortions and other effects to get the tone you want. Use the mixer for volume leveling. -

put your pedal in the FX loop and adjust the Send/Return levels. That way you are not hitting the input and can make the needed adjustments...

1. The "proper" way to use the DT25 with L6 link is to do everything in the POD, not to use the DT internal amps. I think you would do better either with a second DT25 by L6 link or by not using the L6 link at all. 2. Mine defaults to Stack Power Amp (DT Head) and I can't get it to Sudio direct with L6 link so I can't answer for you. Again, to use it as you do with effects only and using the DT25 as a standalone amp, just use the 1/4 outs and keep it in Studio Direct. I am not sure why you say the sound is not as good. That same signal quality is being passed to the other amp by 1/4 out and it sounds good right? I've tried to figure out a good way to do it for a while now so I could send one signal to the DT and another to the PA but the output modes in L6 link always get in the way. L6 is great for full integration but a PITA for some other configurations like the one you have...
