DT25 with HD POD post amp block effects
radatats replied to simonp54's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
MY REAL QUESTION...is it possible to use the DT25 as the pre amp modeller and real power amp AND get the same FX placement (without using the 4CM)? Short answer is NO. When connected with L6 link everything is done in the POD and goes straight to the DT power section bypassing everything else except the DT reverb if wanted. And that is fine. There is no difference between the two. The signal does not bounce back and forth between the POD and the DT. Guitar signal gets processed in the POD and passed to the DT for amplification and on to the speaker for output. -
I tried converting some of my 500 patches to 400 for you but the limitations of the 400 architecture don't allow the placement of certain effects and it is just not doable. I would seriously consider selling the 400 and upgrading to the 500X at some point if i were you. It's just such a more capable piece of gear... I can't imagine being limited like that again...

+1 to Zap... save the set to your computer and open it with HD Edit OFFLINE, POD disconnected. Check the global settings upper left corner and save each tone individually to your computer. Close HD Edit. Start POD and connect to PC, start HD Edit. Now you can load each tone individually, one at a time, being sure to SEND SELECTED to your POD for each one. If there is a bad tone in the bunch, you will find it. If they all work fine, save the Setlist with a new name and delete the problem child.

The beauty of options! I hate sitting like that... I usually double click and type the settings where possible... However, the thought just came to mind that a tablet sized device/controller with duplicate real knobs and buttons and a bigger color screen that could connect by usb and mount on a mic stand would be something I would pay up for... just to be able to read clearly and not have to bend over...

I always and pretty much only use HD Edit and never have issues. You have to remember that there are two "computers" talking to each other and follow strict procedures. I always start the POD first and let it stabilize, then start HD Edit and let it sync up. When editing a patch, I never touch the POD, just do everything with Edit. Assign the amp model first, then effects. I try to keep the effects to a logical routing and prefer the lineup to match the order in the list. Then I make FS and expression assignments and turn effects on and off from the Controllers tab. I will save to disk often while working and "Send" the patch to the POD while working it. Once I am fairly happy with it I will double press to Save on the POD and now I can use the FS and Expression pedals on the POD. If you don't follow these procedures you can get a messed up patch, especially trying to use FS before Sending the patch and Saving on the POD. Other than the system settings there is nothing I want to do on that tiny screen. Especially since I have to bend over to see it and make changes. I can also make topology changes for my DT in HD Edit much easier than the POD. Now that I think of it, everythng is easier on the computer than the POD. About the only thing I actually change on the POD is the Master for golbal volume settings...

All I can say is the Colonel better have a bunch of boot Lieutenants to carry and set up all his gear... LOL...

What kind of guitar are you using? For basic acoustic patches use no amp, just compressor, EQ,, delay and reverb. Takes some work but you should be able to get there.

I built your patch off your screenshots and it is pretty cool. I was intrigued with your analog chorus settings (depth 0, mix 5?). Gives a volume boost with just a little color. I set both the tube driver and the overdrive to the same FS to swap them for a slightly different feel. All in all very usable at least in the basement. Haven't tried it at gig levels...
-
Just curious, why would you need to jump setlists at a gig? not enough patches in one set list to get by until the break? If you do jump setlists with the above fix, I assume it goes straight to 01A? How much delay on the setlist switch?

Combo Pwr Amp output mode does not turn off cab and mic models. It only adds a universal EQ capability within the output mode setup page. Using pre models still gives you the ability to choose cabs and mics. Absolutely you get different tones depending on what cab and mic combination you choose. I play through a tube amp with 4 cable method using Combo Power Amp and sometimes I use the tube amp pre, sometimes the POD pres with cab and mic sims. You can choose to use no cabs with your pre model and in that case you will be relying solely on your 2X12 for flavor. If it is a high quality cab with good speakers that may be all you need. Just be aware that there are other tones available by using the cab and mic sims along with the deep editing features. Get to know HD Edit as it is all much easier on the computer that on the tiny screen of the POD.

doesn't HD Edit run on an iPad? (I don't have one) I know it won't run on Android... what about a Windows tablet?

in my opinion, using the 500 in 4cm with a DT (25 or 50) makes no sense at all. There is absolutely no advantage and you lose all the tremendous integration features designed into the L6 connection. Why would you waste time trying to get 4cm to work when L6 solves all those issues and so much more? And if you are one of those that thinks the DT alone sounds "better" than the POD there are plenty of threads addressing this that may be able to get you on track.

Glad it worked!

sorry pal, not sure what you are asking...

You can still do dual amp patches with the DT, just remember the physical apower sections will stay locked to the amp in channel A. Both amps will have their own sound but they will both have to use the topology of the channel A amp. The only difference is both channels are summed to mono with L6 link. I don't find the pdeal useful for mixing the two amps because there is a dead space where both amps are at 50% as one goes up and the other down. However, I do love it for switching between them within a patch because there is no noise or hesitation like when the amps click on and off with a FS. They just change as quicly as you can rock your foot. Of course with 2 DT's you can get some physical stereo separation but I doubt it is worth it. Stereo guitar in a live band situation just leads to problems for the audience. Even feeding a stereo signal to the PA, the crowd on the left will have a hard time hearing what's coming out of the right and vice versa excapt in very small venues.

OK so after playing around with it for a bit, it is a 500X patch but it loads in my 500 with HD Edit by drag and drop. I think the patch may be corrupted somehow. I checked it out as best I can and I don't see the expression pedals linked anywhere. However, moving exp 1 changes the key through the full range audibly without any visible changes to the patrameters in HD Edit. I can change the key in the Smart Harmony but audibly there is no difference. There is the slightest change to predalay in the Echo too. If i move exp 2 the timing of the Stereo Delay changes momentarily but goes back to its original setting and there is no link on the Controllers Tab. I would suggest writing down all the settings for each effect and then reconstructing the patch from scratch. That way you may be able to get the results you want. I think linking the expression pedal to the Key and sweeping from A to G# gives you a lot of options. It doesn't look like the Scale matters as it just seems to drone anyways without reacting to the notes you actually play. Good luck and let us know how it works out!

Extra Expression Pedal - what do you program it to do?
radatats replied to ColonelForbin's topic in POD HD
Absolutely, but I find it isn't that great. I have assigned both channel volumes to one expression pedal so as one goes down the other goes up but in the middle they are both at 50% and that is noticably quieter than either by themselves. Better to use a FS to turn one off and the other on. Maybe there is another way to do it but I haven't found it yet... -
1. as mentioned above Tap Tempo is only patch specific. However, you can set FX2 and FX3 globally to sync to your tap tempo automatically or not. 2. No. Unlike the HD500 you cannot assign dual amps in the 400 and switch between them. 3. I presume you mean Pedal On/Off Mode (Amber LED) - with typical 4cm you will be feeding your amps input from the FX loop and the POD amp model will be off. To switch to the POD internal amp and bypass your amp's pre section you will have to turn OFF the FX Loop and turn ON the Amp. There is no way to do it with a single FS. The HD500 allows much more flexibility in assigning FS functions so you could do this with one FS but the 400 is a different beast.

Dream rig or Amplifi
radatats replied to Woodstack's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
if you are using a JTV it's really no question, HD500 all the way. You don't need the DT with your current stated situation. The HD500 however is needed for connection, updating and using Workbench HD. You can't do any of that with the Amplifi. The options of getting a good pair of active studio monitors for use will suit you well and you could even take them to a jam session if needed in a pinch. -
I suggest you do a factory reset before going further. Who knows what the last guy did with it. Q: How do I perform a factory reset on my Flextone II? A: The factory reset for a Flextone II is to hold the A B C D Buttons while powering the amp. Now you should set it to Studio which turns off the speaker outs and sets the XLR's for direct recording. You should be able to go direct from the XLR's to your audio interface right into your DAW for recording. Or you can go from the XLR's to a power amp for live sound. Alternatively with the switch on back set to Live the amp will power speaker cabs from the speaker outs and the XLR's drop down to mic level outputs. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/legacy-products/amps/flextone-i-ii-iii-duoverb-hd147/flextone-ii-faqs-r460
