not sure what particular gear you are using but generally, all L6 gear mixes down the stereo signal to mono on at least one output, usually the Left 1/4 out. I can build dual amp patches on my HD500 and still run them through the mono DT25. Of course you lose any stereo effects but the two amp tones together still sound great...
-
Personal affront? No, just a lame comment bro... No my friend, you said using digital would leave one unsatisfied unless one drinks the kool aid. That implies that one can only be satisfied with this gear if one is drinking the kool aid aka delusional. And its not just you but seems to be a number of folks that prefer analog generally imply that the rest of us are somehow missing the boat or not really paying attention. If you thought you were having a private conversation then you should be using PM. I also don't think its fair to say the OP is unsatisfied with his gear just because he hopes the manufacturer doesn't forget about us... and it is a feature completely unique to digital gear to even be able to submit ideas for improvement or new features. I don't see any analog or tube manufacturers taking input from their customers or the customers expecting or anticipating any kind of enhancements to what they bought. The fact that we can comment and have such a great forum is indicative more of the capabilities of this gear rather than the limitations of it...
-
Funny how just because you were unable to find satisfaction with your setup the rest of us (suckers) are somehow drinking "kool-aid" as in the poor victims of Jim Jones lured to their death by false promises. There is a place for both digital and analog. I just get tired of the subliminal innuendo that because many of us actually like our digital gear and are able to use it effectively we are either audibly challenged or simply delusional... If you are done with your L6 gear, move on and find another board that supports what you like to do instead of constantly beating this dead horse.

the particle verb is one of the heaviest DSP users so you probably will have to offload that to a M5 if you absolutely have to have that particular combination. I can build dual amp patches on my 500 (not X) using some pre models but some others push me over. The X has a little more DSP but still probably not enough.
-
Really? not a lot to ask? tell me what other gear can do it? Seriously, what are you going to run it into? Maybe you can use the PRE models, they use less DSP... maybe you can offload one reverb to your amp... you are selling it short if you dismiss it for the reasons you mentioned... or you can add a M5 with midi and its parameters and settings will be saved in your HDX patch.. big extra for little cash...

Will a spider IV 15 work well with a POD HD500?
radatats replied to Shaamaan's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
or just an active monitor will work fine. Try to match what you are using currently, ie. if you are using FX loop of big amp go with BillBee's idea, or if you are using FRFR big rig, stick to FRFR small rig. That way you won't have to build totally different patches... Of course there's always the option of good headphones... But to your original question, the Spider 15 is not a good option for the POD HD500... no FX loop and it really doesn't work well in this setup... -
just a side note but switching between monitors (FRFR) and the DT is going to have its own issues. Tone patches set for your monitors will generally be created using Studio Direct output and full amp models while the moment you hook up your DT with L6 link, the POD switches to (Combo/Studio Front/Stack) and you can't change it. You will also want to use the Pre models instead of the Full models with the DT. End result is a completely different set of patches for the DT and the monitors. You may want to rethink your purchase plans unless you truly need the DT for a different purpose. You might be better served for your stated intentions with an L6t with your 500X and you can also run tracks through it too for jamming... At least this way you will only need one set of patches and the L2t will do electric and acoustic...
-
I forgot about that... try linking the output and the drive to the Exp pedal instead and experiment with the lowest settings to find where it really has no discernible effect on tone. Same result, heel down, no FX, toe down FX on... The FX with mix will work as described previously... You can link up to 50 parameters to each exp pedal so don't worry about having too many things connected...

I've never noticed that but I will give it another specific check tonight.

As RealZap said, for straight into the input of an amp set your output mode to COMBO Front to start with. Connect from the Left 1/4 out to the front of your amp, amp Volume 1/4. POD Master up full, PAD sw NORMAL, 1/4 OUT sw AMP. Open a new patch with NO effects and NO amp. Check that the bypass volume in the amp block is full up. You should now have your guitar signal straight into your amp as if the POD wasn't there. If the signal is weak, try changing the 1/4 OUT sw from AMP to LINE but you should not need to do that. Check your cables too. If you have good signal flow now set your amp set to its cleanest channel settings, tone stack neutral. Try adding an amp model to the POD. Start with a PRE model as you are already running through the amp's power section. Leave all your amp's controls alone and just work with the amp settings in the POD for all adjustments. Leave cab and mic settings just as they are for now. You should have no problems getting a nice tone now with a few amp models. If you are satisfied, you can begin adding effects. If you are still having issues, let us know and we can go from here.

try this workaround. Assign all the pedals to the same FS. The ones in step 2 should be ON and the ones in step 3 should be OFF. Set all of these pedals outputs or mix to the same Exp pedal with minimum set to zero and max set to the level you want them to be. Now you get: 1 - a clean sound with no pedals - Exp pedal heel down. 2 - a dirt sound by engaging 2 pedals - Exp pedal toe down. 3 - a metal sound by disengaging the previous 2 pedals and engaging 2 others - Exp pedal toe down, FS engaged.

sounds like you should be using a M13...

Which of the PODHD overdrives do you use for glassy transparent drive?
radatats replied to GazzaBloom's topic in POD HD
I've been trying to build a patch that gets the tone we are after here and I watched Andy's video for some guidance. I ended up with a dual amp patch using Treadplate and Solo-100 Crunch. This patch uses the Red comp, color drive and 2 analog delays. The Red comp and Treadplate drive are linked to Exp 1 to increase drive and saturation while the color drive is on FS2 for that bit of dirt he gets too. The delays are both on FS3. The Analog Delay w/mod is set to 300ms and the analog echo is set to 500ms just as Andy uses them. This is a FRFR dream rig patch so if you are using a JTV with VDI it will select Tele 1 for you. Clean is exp 1 heel down, guitar vol backed off a bit; drive is vol up, exp 1 toe down and hit FS2 for a bit more. If you need more bass, adjust the CAB DEP, I have Low Cut set to 150. Give it a try and let me know what you think... http://line6.com/customtone/tone/498020/ This works on a HD500... a HD500X might be able to do more... -
thanks for taking over hollis, I was out of ammo... PS - you are raising your kids right having your rig right besides the crib like that... LOL...

I was wondering about that as a possibility... set up a totally new patch with no effects, just a FX Loop and make sure there is no FS assigned to it so it can't switch off. hook up 4cm, no midi, and check that all channels switch manually and the knobs work for each one. if its all good here you know there is nothing wrong with your setup or your FX loops. set up your midi again on FS5-7. Make the amp relearn the assignments and try it again. if it doesn't work this time I'm stumped...

Build 1 * 12 Cabinet for Spider Valve MKII 112
radatats replied to nguyen232's topic in Spider Valve
ok so you CANNOT use a 16 ohm speaker, you have to go with the 8 ohm no matter what brand or model you choose. you can stick with the Celestion Vintage or you could get creative and use a different speaker that will complement the stock internal Celestion but with a different tone. Do your research, there are lots to choose from, Celestion, Eminence, and one of my favorites Warehouse Speakers... http://celestion.com/ http://www.eminence.com/ http://wgs4.com/ -
How to use the pedal on a 500x as an expression pedal
radatats replied to austinctu24's topic in POD HD
I think you need to use the MIX parameter, there is no VOLUME parameter for the Octo... -
I assume you do not have a second exp pedal? just the POD? first, if you have 8 effects already assigned to the FS, how do you have any blocks left over for wah and volume?? so the most you can have is 6 FX, a wah and a volume. Set the FX to FS1-6. Then make sure your wah is OFF and your volume is ON. Go to the controllers tab and select the volume pedal. Select TOE SW and assign it to EXP 1. Go to the wah and select TOE SW and assign it to EXP 2. Save your patch to the computer and SEND it to your POD. (NOTE - do not touch any switches or knobs on the POD while editing on the computer until you have SENT the patch to the POD) Now all your effects are controlled by their respective FS and the volume is normally ON, pedal is EXP1. To select the wah, press down HARD on the toe switch and the wah will turn on and the pedal will become EXP 2. Press down HARD again on the toe switch to turn the wah OFF and switch back to the volume pedal.

so just to clarify with POD hooked up standard 4CM: - manually changing amp channels: - works as it should, tone changes and associated amp controls function normally on all 3 channels. - this proves that all your connections are right and the amp and POD are functioning normally. - using POD to send midi channel change: - channel 3 (high gain) switches and amp knobs work. - switching to channel 1/2 stays on channel 1, tone remains clean, (knobs work? not sure from your first post). It sounds like your amp switches to high gain (Channel 3) fine but both FS 5 and 6 result in a clean tone (Channel 1). After reading the EVH manual, I think you may have accidentally assigned both FS 5 and 6 to channel 1. The manual states you can assign multiple channel messages to the same channel and it sounds like you may have assigned both switches to Channel 1. Try reprogramming FS 5 and 6 paying attention to the note after step 3 regards pressing channel SELECT {E} twice to switch between Channel 1 and 2. Hope this helps because that's as far as I can go without being there!

I use mine like that all the time with no issues. Are you using HD Edit to assign your FS and pedals? I find that to be the easiest way in the controllers tab. In the controllers tab select the Wah and assign the FS you want and also assign the parameters to the Exp pedal. If you already have FX assigned to all 8 FS, you can assign the Wah to the toe switch for the pedal so you don't interfere with any of the other settings. Another option I like to do is keep the Wah ON all the time by assigning both MIX and POSITION to the Exp pedal. Set MIX 21-62 and POSITION 0-100. In the minimum position you won't hear any Wah effect but as you press down it comes on as it should like a Bad Horsie. You never have to turn the Wah off this way.

without any midi hooked up, just the 4cm, what happens if you manually change channels on the amp?
-
that depends on your goals. If you just want to jam in the studio, plenty of guys use good studio monitors and love them. If you want to play out you should get something more robust like active monitors. So many choices, depends on what you want to do and your budget...
-
how are you connected to the amp? describe your cable hookups.
-
the POD has no amplification internally so you must use an amplifier to drive a speaker cab. You could also use active monitors with built in amps, a small stereo power amp, a guitar amp but one way or another you have to amplify the signal. You do not need an amp if you just use headphones...
