tubes are non-linear...but that is a decent conflation... The choice to use a linear pot was an enormous mistake imo...It should have been a log pot...

That is hilarious! Tube amplifiers are non-linear devices...

I compared EV, Alto and Mackie after about a year of thinking it over. I ended up going with the Alto...I played some very diverse program material thru them and I preferred the Alto overall. It was very close with the EV. Alto was more neutral to my ears where the EV sounded great for certain things...The Mackies sounded like dog poo...I wonder if something was wrong with the ones I was trying...It was really bad...especially on 311, Santana reggae/latin stuff... I have not heard those particular RCF speakers, but I have been a longtime fan of the EAW PA Systems that are generally loaded with RCFs...Seems like a bit of a tossup...I tend to think you would be ok with either...

Just passing thru, but I thought I would mention that a few people have modified the SV Mark 2 by replacing the LINEAR master volume post with a LOG pot...LOG pots tame the ramp up...Using a LINEAR pot was a huge mistake in this amp...Another way to tame it is to jump the loop with a Buffer...an old BOSS EQ pedal can do this...You can then knock the preamp gain down and free up the Master a bit...

Replacing tubes in Spider Valve Mk1 112 with Sovtek 6L6WXT+
spaceatl replied to DerMetzgermeister's topic in Spider Valve
My SV Mark 1 does not have spring retainers as this was in the tube cage days of the SV...But since my sockets do not have retaining clips I use the WGC version...WXT in my SV MK2 that does have the retaining clips...- 14 replies

One efficient way to do it that will save an FX Block is to use the Channel Volumes of each amp model as an Expression Parameter. What you need to do is note the percentage value of each channel volume, remove the button assignment and turn on both amps...Assign the Channel volume of each amp to the Expression and assign like the example below...Basically, just invert the MIN and MAX between them and they will crossfade pretty decently...You can add an Expression pedal to dedicate this... AMP A: Channel Volume Set to 85% AMP B: Channel Volume Set to 70% Expression parameters like this: AMP B Channel Vol. MIN = 0% AMP B Channel Vol. MAX = 70% AMP A Channel Vol. MIN = 85% AMP A Channel Vol. MAX = 0%

There is no such thing as a factory reset on HD...You have to reflash the firmware to reset to factory and you WILL DEAUTHORIZED the Model packs when you do that...You need to get the license from whom you bought the pod.

Just want to give a shout out and thank you to you folks that have been touting the Alto TS speakers for FRFR stuff...I got the TS12...Really impressed! I got them for a small PA to use with my m20D mixer or for my HD POD...I got down to Mackie, EV and the Altos...The Mackies were pretty aweful...mids are good, but the lowend is really muddy...I do like the EV, just was not worth the extra $50 and everyone I know that has the Altos has been really happy with them, including some of you POD HD contributors...THANK YOU! You guys helped me get what I needed!

As I recall, these are sealed pots. Liquid contact cleaner is your best bet and you might be able to get some cleaner in it from the shaft...Worth is shot...Otherwise, try a replacement. I would discourage the use of compressed air on most pcb based electronic devices. Mini-Vacuum is what you want to use to clean a pcb...Blowing dust around on a surface mount board is just asking for trouble. ;)
-
That is what I do currently...I don't bring an amp unless I have to...But usually take two DIs and have it summed or stereo depending on the PA and the room/system...

That is sorta what I did when I serialized the LR of the HD Desktop and ran 4CM with my DT50...I just took the XLR out of the DT50 and got some power section love on the output without using a mic as the DT50 direct is quite good...It is a great setup for recording nice being able to switch between the DT50 preamp and the HD Desktop...Really Flexible. At that time, I was playing out live a bit more often and it just wasn't practical for me...

your pedal could be out of calibration if you have a volume on the patch...try saving with any volume pedal disabled...just to see where it's at...
-
Save Twice should do it...Try moving to a new Set list? then go between patches there...then see if they will take the patch leveling changes....I assume you are trying to level volumes between patches...sounds like you are doing it right...I don't use the editor either and that is exactly what I do...good luck sir...A global reset is a good idea....hold left arrow on power up....you just need to revisit the System Settings pages to make sure thing are like you like them...patches will be fine...

I used an TS->XLR adapter to serialize my HD Desktop and ran 4cm with am amplifier. It's a super tweaky setup that really isn't practical for live use...But it does work pretty well. Setting up the chain is pretty complicated to...The really problem is that you need a concentric Master volume or outboard buffers to set the level on the L and R outputs since one is hitting an amp input and the other is driving the power amp...you can get it corrected with the internal mixer, but the master has to stay put and amplfiers that don't have Master volume on the power amp input don't integrate well...too tweaky....I have an old post on this with a patch some place, but I can't find it....and I think Zap is in Peru some place...

Download the latest Line 6 Monkey, run that and go from there...Take care to not plug in the USB until the install tells you to.

Line 6: seems they're missing a huge marketing segment.
spaceatl replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
Make no mistake...Helix kicks HD down the block in terms of resolution, chain config and bunch of other things...However, what really impressed me is that Line 6 finally created amp defaults that sound great...I tried one out at HQ when I did a visit and it is fantastic...However, I am still on the fence about getting one and still use my old HD Desktop for most things I do these days...The form factor is what bothers me....I have hated all in one pedalboards since the RP-1 came out...I love a POD with a shortboard...Not a fan of Helix Rack...too damn big for what I do nowadays... -
I really want a Helix. Ever since I played one at the company HQ and brought up a model and it sounded great...However, I still have not pulled the trigger because my old HD Desktop does what I need....Now had they created an Helix Desktop with a foot controller, I would have jumped...Helix Rack is too bulky for my needs...I have loathed all in one pedalboards since the advent of the RP-1...prefer dumb controllers...

True Bypass is just a marketing term...If it's buffered, it's not a True Bypass....My M-13 has buffers, it's NOT a True Bypass like one would do to an old Cry Baby to get rid of the tone suck in bypass...It's just wire...Anyway, just one of those terms that gets under my skin because it's sorta like an amplifier salesman telling you some amplifier is great because it's Class A... The answer is a real unbuffered True Bypass in a digital device is cost prohibitive...Not impossible, but would add cost with zero benefits...
-
no...but you can turn trails off if you like...That term True Bypass really does no sense at all...

jumping between a guitar amp and headphones can be a but difficult. Basically, you have to make sure you are using Studio direct when you have cans and one of the power amp modes when you use your amp...You didn't say much about your output modes, so I am just assuming you got that square like you like it...Anyhoo, if you are having trouble with brash highs, one of my favorite ways to tame it a bit is to use the InputZ setting...try knocking down to 300k or one of the low settings...You will hear, the lower the impedance, the darker the tone gets...It's nothing more than a ballpark setting, so you might want to flatten out some other things so your correction is less radical...Best of luck!

I have an SV MK1 and have used my old Boss pedals with it many times and never observed anything like that. Perhaps, try using a single cable and jump the PRE OUT to the POWER AMP IN...
-
Sounds like a good plan...I have a DT25 head/cab that I used for the simple rig and just take my old Boss pedals with it...Dead simple and sounds great...Little channel switch also...I have done to 4CM with most of the Line 6 modelers. It's neat, but I am not a fan of all the extra cabling and tweaking...Sounds like a decent plan tho...From what I have heard thus far, Helix does 4CM pretty nicely.

I think a tube screamer approach works decently...basically, hit the model harder with cleaner level than artificial...One way you can do this without a pedal is to set your input 2 = Same...This will increase the clean level in the signal chain by a good bit. For most of the models this is a bit too much and it can overdrive some FX that are in front of the model...However, I have found this to be very useful on the 5150 as I don't like how it sounds with the gain high...I think the Park 75 also benefits from this, but has the opposite problem of not enough gain potential. Most of my single amp patches the input 2 is set to Mic to null the input...But the 5150 and the Park are two models I increase the clean signal in the chain with input 2 set to same....anyway, just a thought.

I have been using voxengo span for several years, but not really for leveling patches...More to check my ears that I have got the pcokets right so I am not killing, vocals, keys etc...The average loudness is only really useful for recording situations for me...Different folks use different tools and preferences of the tools they like, or just ears...If everyone did it the same way, music would be pretty sterile and you wouldn't find those glorious tonal accidents...but just my opinion.
-
Maybe you put the key in wrong when you put in the trusted site...Not sure... Does it block Drop Box also? I have heard it can go nuts and get pretty dicey...I don't use it.
