The only Linux solutions I have seen involve running windows in a virtual machine...

You can render a track or section of a track in reaper to an mp3 or set of mp3s, and then play them on repeat from any mp3 player (including a phone) that is connected via a stereo 1/8 jack into the mp3 input on the HD500. That said I do find it more convenient running Reaper on the computer and playing it over USB through the HD500

An important question might be... why cannot any such update be completed using any L6 device with a USB and L6Link connector? You shouldn't need an M20d (I do have one) - just a POD HD or Helix.
-
I don't believe that the HD500 USB is class compliant, so you will need a driver for USB audio and I don't know that one exists - Line 6 certainly don't support Linux. You can however just connect from a headphone output to the HD500 MP3 input - that works with anything
-
I really would hope that that particular store knew what it was talking about - it is branded and owned by Yamaha (who own Line 6, but you all knew that). Unfortunately that doesn't mean that every sales person knows every feature of every product. In this case however there is also the fact that Workbench HD hasn't been updated to support editing via a Helix and that there hasn't been an update for a very long time and you do begin to wonder. I wouldn't expect anybody here to pre-announce a new product, but the right retailers might know so that they don't stock up with the wrong items, and that one is the "right retailer" in the UK. Other than the Helix 2 firmware things have been relatively quiet from Line 6 for quite a while now and "new products" have been mentioned a few times
-
I thought the firmware update only applied to the L3 series and that all L2 series were at the later firmware level from the factory.
-
The signal may have been "too hot" because the L2t mix out is a Line level signal and your mixer may have been expecting a mic signal for XLR inputs. The XLR outs from the HD500 are mic level (and normally a quiet mic at that) so your desk might prefer that. I use whatever the desk requires - so for the bass players set-up or other random PA I try to use the L2t output first and then drop down to the HD500 output, but for my M20d I use the 1/4" outputs because that is what the M20d presets for an HD500 is predefined to expect. Do whatever works but be prepared for Line level XLR (L2t Mix Out), Mic level (HD500 XLR Out) or instrument 1/4 to DI (HD500 1/4 Outs)

Plug external source into a pair of FX Loop In sockets. Add an stereo FX Loop Return block that brings those inputs at the end of the paths just before the Helix Output and set mix to 50%. You should get the input mixed with the guitar processed signal. Only a single very low DSP block is required.

I think it is possible using WiFi tech - 8 audio channels (24 bit @ 48k, VDI + Mags + 6 strings) isn't exactly challenging - perhaps 1.5M bps with 30% overhead. But what is the latency and quality of service when there are 10,000* other WiFi devices** in the close vicinity? * Well in my case 100 is more than enough **Assuming that you are using legal frequencies (in the main market countries).

Not personal experience (I have 2 StageSource L2t) but my suggestion was based on reading this thread: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/cube-street-ex-vs-alto-ts110-for-helix.1699138/

It may be that you need to the computer there, but wouldn't it be easier (if you didn't need the computer) just to connect Helix MIDI out back to MIDI in and set the footswitch to send CC69 (value 0 - 7)?

Roland Street Cube EX ?

It annoys me... but the other way around: I really don't need to use two hands to go back to the previous page when browsing a Forum: my fingers just can't stretch to cover Alt and Left Arrow on a modern windows keyboard with one hand, so I have to move right hand from the mouse to a specific key and then back again. Really not an efficient choice at all. Just as well that there are extensions such as "Back to Backspace"
-
So are you annoyed about the Backspace "fix" in Chrome?

The Variax firmware doesn't support it. When I replied on your other thread I hadn't noticed that you have a JTV as well - have you tried the interface that came with the JTV to connect the Variax to a computer to use the original Workbench?
-
Sorry to bring bad news, but Workbench HD only works for JTV and the new Standard. Workbench without the HD is what will work for the original Variax series. The firmware on the acoustic variax is limited so that you can only apply the alternative tunings within patches, but it is not just an HD500 that can act as an interface - for example the Pod X3 can too. Workbench was/is sold with an interface unit that connects to the variax using vdi and a computer using USB, and it is that which is the proper way to connect them; it sounds as though that is what you need.

What's Happening With The M20D?
Rewolf48 replied to StuMur's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
I would be amazed if anybody from Line 6 replied - they never say anything specific about future plans (for legal reasons). The only thing we know is that it is still listed as a current product on the website.- 23 replies

Can't you achieve the any footswitch idea using 10 switch mode and a loopback MIDI cable? Yes it is a bit more complicated to set-up but anything MIDI controllable is possible

There is always a "preset" because they define the chain of effects present on the channel, but the default presets when you plug in a mic or line cable are neutral; you only get tweaked presets when you choose a specific type of input such as KIck or Snare (or Male Lead Vocal, Acoustic Direct, etc). Beyond the neutral presets you can in Deep Tweak mode select one of the effect chains (combination and order of effects) and these will also be completely neutral settings. -
There is a filter when the posts are rendered that replaces "naughty words" with lollipop. I know that what you post is saved as you wrote it because I have seen the original text when there were some technical problems with the site. Some of use older users are so used to it that we actually type lollipop when posting - or at least I do. I would check that you have output using that cable by plugging it into something that is known to be good; if you have sound then check to see if there is a return level control or effect loop mix control that is killing the sound - just checked a photo and there is FX Loop Mix on the front panel: that has to be set to 100%. If you have no sound then check the cable and volume settings on the HD500

You can set each pedal to output a MIDI Program Change command (PC) and this will give you your JMP-1 Preset changes. Just be careful about Patch Changes on the HD500 as that will also send out PC MIDI messages and you can't turn it off - but you can set the MIDI channel that is used on the Global Settings and then tell the JMP-1 to listen on a different channel.

It is a pain - I was in on those original threads with 'bobbo and it is basically down to path A requiring a different amount of processing to path B and so one is delayed relative to the other and this results in comb filtering rather than phase issues. MeAmBobbo's solution was to stick EQs in on path or other to try and sync them back up again and what we really wanted (and asked Line 6 for) was a way to sync them either by adding a relative delay option to the mixer along with a phase inversion for when the amplification stages are genuinely unbalanced and one signal is inverted and cancelling. Unfortunately we only got the vintage-pre with the phase inversion option and that doesn't always work. It is not too bad when you feed separate speakers but the effect can be really bad when you mix them to mono and there is not a lot you can do except waste blocks on Studio EQ that are set flat. Still struggling with it myself when mixing Acoustic and Electric as the in between positions can be dreadful with a slight amount of the other signal added causing the overall level to fall. I think I head something that implied the problem was fixed on Helix, but that doesn't help HD500 owners
