  1. Check the Controller Assign list to be sure that Exp 1 is only assigned to wah. If that checks out, you can try a factory reset (BACK UP FIRST!). If you're sure it's still happening, in HX Edit watch the sliders in each effect and the I/O blocks to see if anything is moving that shouldn't be. If that checks out, you may be imagining it. We can't help you with that..... :-) But seriously - Keep in mind that wah is a frequency filter. Our ears/minds perceive sound differently at different frequencies. It's complicated. Maybe you just don't like the way the wah you're primarily using sounds. Some of them have frequency adjustments. Try changing them. Try different wahs in different presets. Also, pay attention to your technique. Wah , played well, is itself an instrument. Played thoughtlessly, it's a quacky toy for children.
  2. You need to read up on the subject of "gain staging". For your FX Loop, turn down the SEND parameter on the FX Loop Block. When you say "I have a lot of trouble getting volume out of that once I get it sufficiently clean", volume where? Headphones? Amplifier (external)? PA? DAW? You need to be specific about what you're trying to do and what you're using before we can make suggestions.

    Preset Balancing

Go over to Ideascale, DO A SEARCH for preset leveling or preset balancing, and VOTE for all the identical posts made by folks who didn't bother to search before posting. It's probably been posted AT LEAST 10 times. Not only that, it's a problem with EVERY HW and SW modeler, so apparently, it's not an easy nut to crack.
  4. The Output Block has a PAN setting, but that is a per preset thing, so if it's on all presets, then you should start by updating it. DL and Install HX Edit v3.11. With HXS connected and turned ON, load HX Edit. It will tell you to update. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS PRECISELY! DON'T SKIP THE FACTORY RESET AFTER THE UPDATE! If, after a proper and successful update to FW v3.11, you still have the problem, it's probably defective, return it. You REALLY need to get a computer to deal with this. It's a computer.

    Suddenly No Sound

I assume that you're on the latest version - 3.11 for BOTH HX Edit and Helix FW - since HX Edit is showing No Updates Available. If not, do it now. If the above is covered, do a Factory Reset. Don't forget to Backup first! Helix Rack Since the rack doesn't have footswitches, you'll instead hold down a combination of the 6 encoders that are below the main LCD screen as you're booting up. ENC2 & ENC3 - reset globals ENC3 & ENC4 - restore stock presets and setlists ENC4 & ENC5 - restore stock presets, setlists, and IRs ENC5 & ENC6 - reset globals and restore presets, setlists, and IRs (entire factory restore) ENC1 & ENC3 - rebuild all presets ENC1 & ENC5 - clear all presets, setlists, and IRs ENC1 & ENC6 - will enter Update Mode (This feature is only available on firmware v1.06.5 and higher) ----------------------------- If that doesn't work, open a support ticket. Once resolved (by whatever means), come back here and tell us about it, so this doesn't turn into yet another dead-end thread!
  7. To clarify: The Global Setting "Snapshot Edits" applies to ALL changes made to a Snapshot, both Bypass and Parameters. The setting referred to above, "Snapshot Bypass", accessed in a block's right-click menu, applies ONLY to that block, and ONLY to the Bypass setting. So, if a block is normally ON/OFF depending on the Snapshot, you can turn it OFF/ON and have that setting persist across all Snapshots regardless of the saved state, and regardless of the Global "Snapshot Edits" setting. This way, if you want most blocks' bypass settings to return to the saved state when changing Snapshots, you set "Snapshot Edits" to DISCARD. Then, if there's a SPECIFIC block whose Bypass setting you want to PERSIST across Snapshot changes, such as the Poly Capo in the example cited by @Hillman1312, you disable "Snapshot Bypass" on that block.
  8. Global Settings>Preferences>Snapshot Edits>DISCARD
  9. Factory Reset. HX Effects 1. Holding FS3 + MODE - Will clear all Presets and IRs 2. Holding FS4+FS5 - Will reset Global Settings 3. Holding FS5+FS6 - Will reset Presets only 4. Holding FS6+TAP - Will Perform factory restore (reset, Globals, IRs, and Presets) 5. Holding the right arrow ">" Will put the unit in a fail safe update mode. Use this when the HX Effects is in a un recoverable state
  10. Yes. Using the CommandCenter, MIDI messages can be assigned to "Instant Commands", which run each time the Preset loads and each time you change Snapshots, and are configurable Per Snapshot. MIDI messages can also be assigned to Stomp Mode Footswitches so that you could change channels within Snapshots without changing the actual Snapshot. Those Footswitches can also change effects parameters within the Snapshot, and Helix can be configured to reload the Snapshot, reverting to the default Snapshot settings from whatever changes you've made via a Footswitch. Helix Floor is a sturdier, more road-worthy unit, the Expression Pedal is more reliable, the Scribble Strips make it easier to tell what's going on at any given time in whatever Mode you're in, there're more signal routing options (4 FX loops vs 2) and a dedicated mic input if needed. You've got top of the line equipment with the Mesa. Don't scrimp on your Helix. Buy used if necessary. Warranties are transferrable, and support, including turnaround time on repairs and an extended warranty option that provides a loaner while waiting for repairs, is unparalleled. One advantage of buying new is the discount on Helix Native which can cover the price difference ($99 vs $399) all by itself, and makes re-amping in the recording process simple and painless.
  11. Posted for the sake of clarity, since we both know that EVERYONE reads the manual.... :-)
  12. Bypassing HX Stomp Completely Page 14 of the HXS Manual v3.0 rev C
  13. 10. EXP 1/2, FS 4/5 Connect an expression pedal here to adjust a wide variety of parameters.* With a Y-cable (tip-ring-sleeve 1/4" jack, split to two tip-sleeve 1/4" jacks), two expression pedals can be connected. Alternatively, you can add one (or with a Y-cable, two) external footswitches to access additional stomps, presets, snapshots, etc. (FS4=tip, FS5=ring). To set this jack’s function(s), see page 52. By default, this jack is set to accommodate a Mission SP1-L6H Line 6 Expression Pedal, which has a toe switch that toggles between EXP 1 (Wah/Pitch or Poly Wham) and EXP 2 (Volume/Pan). For external footswitches, the momentary (unlatched) type should be used.
  14. Sounds like the pedal is assigned to BYPASS when it should be assigned to POSITION.
  15. I wasn't referring to finding an answer tailored specifically to your situation, I meant reading the manual in general so that you can figure out these things for yourself. You know, the old proverb: "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" Anyway, glad you've got it working.
  16. Do a search on this forum for variations on Mesa and Rectifier. Lots of people have wrestled with this. Not sure about solutions, but it's worth a try.
  17. You can also do all of this using Snapshots, which might be easier. Now might be a good time to have a look at the manual. Just sayin'.
  18. Assign the Levels on the Output Blocks to the same FS. Set the Min/Max values as appropriate.
  19. Sorry, I left out a step and sent an earlier version. I've edited that post and attached the correct version of the example preset.
  20. In the FX Loop of my Egnater, it's totally silent. Of course, I use it 4cm, as it was designed to be used. What FX are you using? If you put amps and gainy FX - ODs, Distortions, fuzz - in an FX loop it will cause this problem. Try only using mods/delays/reverbs in the loop. If you want to use gainy fx, use 4cm and put them BEFORE the GM. EDIT - If you ARE using 4cm, you're doing something wrong. See above.
  21. Very often a Windows update will hose the drivers. Install HX Edit v3.10. In HX Edit v3.10 click "Check for Updates". Follow the directions to install FW v3.11. Don't skip the backup step, and don't forget the additional Factory reset and restore after the update. That should get you back in the game.
  22. Put your Looper at the end of your chain. Pull it down (along with the MIXER Block) to create a Path B. Set the Path B Output to a SEND. Take the send to your separate channel. Replace the Split with an A/B Split set to an EVEN Split. Replace the Split with an A/B Split. Assign a FS to the "Route To" parameter. Set MIN to 100% Path A and MAX to EVEN Split. When you're recording a Loop/Overdub press the "Route To" FS. That will evenly split the signal, allowing you to record. When you want to play over the Loop (without recording), turn that FS OFF. That will route your live playing to the Main Out, while the Looper plays separately through the SEND. NEW Example preset attached. Test Looper Rout.hlx

    Wah tone

If you go to BYPASS/CONTROLLER ASSIGN, you'll see that there are two controllers assigned to the WAH, BYPASS and POSITION. Clear the POSITION assignment, then switch to EDIT, go to the WAH, turn it ON and set the POSITION Value where you want it and SAVE.
