  1. Lmao.... they're after our modelers ! I think we need a special prosecutor.... and round the clock surveillance of any L6 employees who like vodka. ðŸ˜
  2. Infrastructure is crumbling everywhere... nobody's immune, I guess...😉
  3. Whatever the problem is, it's been an intermittent issue for at least a week for me...clearing the cache was offered upearly on during the site's "ok" periods... but during the handful of episodes when the site has been inaccessible, clearing of said cache did nothing for me. For others, it seems to have done the trick...who knows?
  4. Clearing the cache does nothing for me...tried couple of different browsers, didn't make any difference. This is the first time I've been able to log on in a couple of days. The mobile version still isn't working right... layout is all screwed up. Strange things are afoot in Calabasas, lol
  5. You could always go through an interface instead of using USB for your audio connection. The Focusrite stuff has "direct monitoring", which takes the input signal and routes it directly to the headphone and/or monitor outputs. Without the round trip into your DAW and back out again, there's really no possibility of any latency...I think they advertise 1-3ms or something. Whatever it is, it's negligible, and works like a charm. After my episode the other day, I rerouted things this way. It also lets you have a variable output from the Helix master volume control, which is handy, whereas the USB output is fixed. You'll hear some guys whine about the extra D/A conversion by doing things this way, but if there's a difference in audio quality, I can't hear it. Ymmv...
  6. This... Noise floor considerations aside, it's never good to dime speaker outputs...use the 1/4" outs set at "line" level as indicated above, and back the volume down on the monitors. Eventually you're gonna end up feeding them a signal that's hotter than you think it is, and POOF!...you're buying new monitors.
  7. Shouldn't be a regular occurrence, but it happens...
  8. It's not a "good"/"bad" thing...for the guys who don't like the patches they bought, the complaint is always the same: "this patch doesn't sound like the videos"... and they never really will, at least not without some adjustments. Now that doesn't mean you won't occasionally find one you like, but "sounds good" and "sounds identical" are two very different assessments. Don't think I've ever heard any of the guys who like them say: "they sound exactly like the videos!" In my experience... and yes, I've tried...expecting a sound identical to what you've heard in a promo video to flow forth, when you're using a bunch of different gear, is a long wait for a train that ain't coming. And if I'm gonna hafta tweak stuff anyway in order to tone-match something I've heard, then I'm doing it from scratch...in the long run it's faster, and it doesn't cost me anything.
  9. Dialing everything in yourself will ALWAYS be faster than trying to get somebody's else's patches/ custom models to bend to your will. There are simply too many variables in play.
  10. And they're not going to..."one size fits all" patches are a fantasy. The monitors, speakers, headphones, etc that you're listening through are responsible for at least half your tone. Then there's the guitar, the pickups, the listening environment itself, and especially the volume level, which all influence the tone.... and what all those things were on his end when he built the patch are a mystery, making any tonal continuity just dumb luck. There's only one way to load a patch, so there's no "installation" tips to offer. You've done nothing wrong...trying to use other guy's patches is almost always a waste of time.
  11. This is "after this, therefore because of this" reasoning...Mine stalled on boot-up shortly after the 2.50 update. Hasn't done it since. If it works, it works... don't borrow trouble.
  12. I put myself through college driving a fork lift at a lumber yard...I'm thinking of investing in one for Helix transport. In the meantime, let's keep it going, gents! Together we can make the dumbest thread in history endure forever...after all, it's about community.😉 Forget about good sound and navigating the maze of Helix's capabilities....how do I master the sorcery required to move it from point A to point B?!??!?!?! There's gotta be at least one guitar player at NASA....it's worth a phone call. I'll report back!😂
  13. Ask over at TGP...ðŸ˜
  14. You won't be disappointed... the POD served me well for a number of years, but Helix is a whole other world. As for the floor unit vs. rack... the floor is as simple as it gets. If it's a gig that I know has decent stage monitors, I show up with just the Helix, and a couple of guitars... don't even bother with my L2T half the time. No more 45 minute load-in and set-up with rack cases, power amp, cabinet, etc. Guitar into Helix, XLR to the board, done.
  15. Welcome to "piezo plink". There are countless threads about this issue... including one entitled "Do you have the same problem with the 6th string?", which has endured for years... you'll need 2 weeks vacation to read the whole thing. Basically, some guitars suffer from it, and others don't. Multiple factors contribute to it, and multiple home-spun remedies have made the rounds... some work, some don't. In a nutshell, you either have an afflicted guitar or you don't. If you've only had it a week, I'd suggest exchanging it for another one.
  16. Maybe yes, maybe no...It's only "refurbished" if somebody else owned it first and broke it. Then it's taken back, repaired, and re-sold to you. That might be the case...or it's new and just plain old "broken". Either way, 2 things are certain: 1) You'll probably never find out the truth, as retailers are famous for lying through their teeth. 2) It's all semantics anyway...broken is broken. Knowing whether or not somebody else had it first doesn't help you. Whether or not it's repaired or replaced is another question entirely. Depends on what's wrong with it...if it's cheaper for them to fix it than give you a new one, then that's what they're likely to do.
  17. Fear not! You won't get a good tone from the factory presets for ANY genre... metal or otherwise. 😂 Ignore them, learn the unit, and create your own patches. Relying on factory presets is doomed to failure 99% of the time...
  18. As this would essentially turn Helix into a skateboard, it would no doubt make for some awesome YouTube "Spinal Tap" moments... Launching yourself into the front row trying to toggle on a solo boost is hysterical...😉
  19. As stupid as it is to have had a days- long discussion about the advanced engineering principles that govern picking up a box 😂...I would still hesitate to drag the thing around by the expression pedal. Yes, the toe switch requires a good shove, but that's transient...a second or less to toggle it. And it's not where the stress would be if you lift it by the pedal anyway...heaving the full weight of the thing around by the pedal will stress the other end, where it pivots. Now maybe it doesn't matter, but over the years I've managed to break plenty of stuff that seemed indestructible. Why invite problems? Just my 2 cents...
  20. Good question...in my case, I was listening through monitors connected to a Focusrite interface, via a USB hub. I know they suck...but it's s laptop, and I've only got so many ports. Helix is connected directly. I suppose the hub or the interface itself may have just shat the bed temporarily... who knows? But if so, it's a first. I've had the same set-up for years, and this was the one and only latency issue I've had. Currently, all is well...
  21. Don't need one... it's a bad idea. An amp is an amp. If you supply a bigger resistance load than its expecting, you'll lose some power, but you won't blow anything up. A smaller load however, will eventually fry things.

    USB Cables

OK fine...encoded voltage changes travel along the wire. But what's being encode? 1's and 0's, no? If I'm wrong, so be it... but if not, we're splitting hairs. Either way, the data either gets there, or it doesn't.
  23. 😂...that's all well and good, but WHEN??!??!?!?!?!?? My grip-less Helix is stranded in Hoboken...😉
