What are my options for playing live with the hd500x?
pianoguyy replied to Olliclark_4's topic in POD HD
To answer the question --- the Pod does not provide power. You can run whatever type of system you want. Do you want a combo? A stack? A personal PA? They all work. Just like what you were doing before you got the pod, you need speakers to hear, and something to power the speakers. -

Why would they not have that option? -
Potential new member of the POD family with some questions

Question one - you would need to set up patches in stereo so that left goes to the amp and right goes to pa. Question two - yes, you would need to set up a dual path (if using a mic and guitar at the same time), and as above, set up a stereo so that one side goes to. Question three - yes, all of those inputs can be used. but not at the same time. You are limited to two of them. The Pod allow you to select (per patch) which inputs to use. BUT Let me make the suggestion --- skip 4cm. Go direct to PA. Guitar > pod > pa. No amp needed. You can (because of multiple outputs), still use an amp to monitor yourself. -
True. The pianos are different because they are using completely different samples. Which is different than slightly tweaking an eq or something. A 9 foot concert grand in a concert hall is going to sound different than the old beat up spinet that sits in your grandmothers house ==> and, yes, old beat up spinets with broken soundboards and out of tune strings, they are sampled and put in those units. If someone is stuck at the "tone creation" phase, there is a 40-second sampler/looper. But it is, to me, still going to be the same result. Playing an 8 bar blues/rock progression to hear tone, is going to sound way different once you start to play the Mistress Gaga version of Moth to a Flame.

I live by the motto ---- If you did it (or didn't do it) on your old/physical rig, then do it (or don't do it) with your virtual rig.
-
And, as long as we are on a zombie thread... I have learned through the years that different tone makes you play differently. Therefore, will never sound good when you try to change the tone. Of course, I don't re-amp. But on the digital pianos, I have often recorded a line and then thought about what it would sound like with a different voice - it never works out.
-
For future reference - you can also turn one on while turning the other off with one foot switch.

Sure. But most people put the download link in the description beneath the video. You still fulfill your need to talk to people, and the download is there too.

I have never done this because -- well -- I have better things to do. However - in the olden days, we used to go into chat rooms or the old Yahoo Messenger and broadcast tunes direct. No mic needed, even though it wasn't the default option. Unless there is something in the Skype programming, I can't see why we wouldn't be able to go direct. Hell, use one of the Pod outputs into the computer mic jack. Then assign Skype to read to external mic instead of the internal one.

Do you have the EDIT software?
-
but you don't need to convert anything.
-
to download patches that are hosted on Customtone, you have to go to Customtone and download them.
-
I leave my GEQ off and let the "experienced sound guys" earn their pay.
-
Yeah, one patch. Which requires you to carry one tiny little box. vs Carrying an amp which then needs mic'd. And a soundcheck. And the constant argument over stage volume. Plus carrying what ever effects you have included in that patch. And, of course, the simplistic things - like needing to carry a guitar tuner.
-
Is this one of those {eye dee ten tee} errors?
-
Are you aware that we have Customtone where you can post the patches instead of making videos hoping that we catch the settings to replicate them as you twist the knobs.

When I "played in a band", I had one sound. It was the "band sound". Yes, there may have been the need for an effect here and there, but they were always based around that one band sound. Yes, when I played in a different band, there was a different sound needed. But, again, it was just that one band sound. But, today, times are different, am I different, and my work is different. I work for a world wide media organization. One day I am playing country music. The next, rock. And pop or EDM or anything. Live music. Studio music. I need the versatility. And then, because I am no longer a teenager, when I do play in a band, it is typically a cover band. So, again, I need the versatility. Especially since it is multiple bands at the same time.

You should also go onto your control panel and change your settings from Combo to Studio/Direct.
-
You only need to use 4cm if you are using things both before and after. Plugging the Pod into the the FX Loop is fine. Although, you should be plugging into the in/receive, not into the out/send.
-
Also, stereo patches that were created in stereo but then sum to mono could have phase issues.
-
are you looking at the same list I am?

First, let's make sure you understand - it is not a volume pedal. Nor is it a wah pedal. It is an expression pedal. It is capable of controlling any effect. **my mistake. while correct for some models, it is not correct on every model. The OP did not say which model he has. I have two suggestions: 1. Don't assign distortion to the expression pedal. 2. Put the volume pedal AFTER the amp. That will keep the "tone" while adjusting volume.

Volume pedal does not work in some patches that I write

Yes, you can run all 4 outputs at the same time. There is nothing wrong with it, the unit is more than capable. I would not suggest doing it, but it can be done. Monitors and amps will give you different tone.
